At least the Gympie-Gympie plant doesn't grow this far south. It is not just the snakes and spiders that want to kill you.
They used to grow in the last place I lived tho, near my kids favorite spot.

They need to start off by setting some non-negotiables, figure out what the want to stand for, run off of a platform of anti corruption and a hard rule of no conflicts of interest.

They are incapable of it.

When you look at the Victorian LNP "real solutions plan" there was a lot of good points and ideas, the problem isn't a large bulk of the fiscal policies, it is the shit that doesn't make to the policy document which we know is going to plague the state, it happens every time a LNP government is put into power. If all we got was what was in the policy there probably wouldn't be a massive difference between ALP and LNP but every time the LNP get in power we can't wait to get rid of them. Reality has forced them to move towards the left, but the power behind the party is still old school and it is the yoke that will prevent any realistic reform.

Except they weren't costed and had no detail.
They were just motherhood statements.

Take for example the $2 cap on public transport. How? We have existing contracts with PTV/Metro Trains etc. How much would it cost to implement, and for how long?

It makes a great headline, but it's just an example (among many) of how their platform was terrible.

Yeah, I just meant in principle, if a different party ran on those policies (and they were properly costed) would they be considered conservative?

As to the PTV/Metro Trains, etc, it is easy to implement, the government would pay the difference, they wouldn't be out of pocket and it wouldn't breach any existing agreement. How would they fund it is the bigger issue and it comes down to the principle that nothing is "free", you can't really provide a social service that people do not pay for directly without funding it indirectly with a generic tax.

I don't think it was feasible to say we will not spend money on an infrastructure project and instead use it to fund basic services, an infrastructure project is something the government should borrow money to complete, it shouldn't be going into debt to fund public transport, ambulance and hospital services because that would be spending beyond your means.

LNP have a stick up their butt when it comes to creating a tax to fund something, there is a fundamental problem with their core principles of smaller government and lower taxes when you want to do something like expanding social services.

I actually agree that we should get rid of a lot of the grubby taxes and duties that currently exist that fleece people of money, we should say this is what it costs to provide our social services and we are going to have this basic form of state based taxation which funds it. We also need a taxation mechanism to eventually pay for infrastructure development so we don't go into these cycles of build nothing, then build a lot and get massively into debt then suffer draconian cuts to basic services to pay off that debt. We should have a proper system where we say that we need to spend X% of GDP on infrastructure development and it should be part of the basic funding and it should be managed by an independent body who follow long-term development plans (like the Victorian 2050 plan) so the money can't be used in the short-term for vote buying or rorted as political favours.

Our current system is backwards. Infrastructure spending shouldn't even be political. It is political for us because we have an archaic system which should have been modernised a long time ago.

I don't use public transport, but it would still benefit me if more people used it by reducing people on the roads, it will create less pollution, less congestion, I think it should be free to use, like the buses and trains and trams are running regardless if there is anyone on them or not, it is just dumb to have them mostly empty outside of peak hours, it is very inefficient. Whatever you are paying for your fare, you are paying a massive surcharge for an underutilised system. It would be more efficient to get more people using it and funding it through the state instead.

I'm surprised anyone takes the wife beater seriously.
There’s about 3% of hard thirsty dogs and about another 5% that enjoy his opinion here n there.

****in hobbit rat, we called him and his dog campaigner security guard out in Carlton. They wanted none of it, kept on marching, they like beating up on leftist women having a wine.

Coward, cowards the ****ing lot of em.

Hot tip, when they ran out of frozen waterbottles and had nothing left, these cowards hid behind the coppers. FACT!

Weak dogs the lot of em

If an asteroid is ever going to destroy life on earth, I hope I hear about it from candice wyatt. Aside from being beautiful, she has the best “news” voice ever.

Apart from supporting * she’s perfect

Are we feeling lonely?

I'm hoping it doesn't happen until we've colonised Alpha Centauri, at the very least.

It’s a bit interesting that Twitter is the only social media platform not censoring the unrest in China and Apple is going to pull advertising from Twitter. Is it just a coincidence that Apple use Chinese slave labour to make their products?

It’s full on. Apple has updated all phones across China to remove airdrop so the protestors can’t bypass the CCP censorship. It’s ****ing wild.

Theres literally a riot happening at the Apple factory right now.

That AI article with that woman's a weird one GR. If l was not a boomer l'd get online properly and play around.
I reckon the "internet", ie all these networks, is/are self aware.

(LOL. Whatever that means.)

And has been for at least 15 years.

Collingwood icon Jeffrey “Joffa” Corfe has admitted sickening sex acts against a 14-year-old boy – but he is set to avoid jail for his crimes.

Corfe, 62, pleaded guilty to sexual penetration of a child under the age of 16 – a rolled up charge involving two acts with the boy at his Coburg home on January 29, 2005 – in Victoria’s County Court on Wednesday.

He had previously denied the allegations when charged in May last year and a trial date had been set for next year.

But he entered his guilty plea after a series of hearings were held last week that the Herald Sun was unable to report, where he applied for a sentencing indication if he was to admit the single charge.

On Friday, Judge Gerard Mullaly accepted submissions by Corfe’s lawyer Christopher Terry that a wholly suspended jail term would be an appropriate punishment.

A gag order prohibited the Herald Sun from reporting the details until today.

The court heard Corfe – one of the Pies’ most recognisable supporters and former cheer squad leader – was aged 44 at the time of the offending.

He used an alias and said he was 30 years old when he began communicating with the teen via email and MSN messenger on January 16, later inviting him to his home to have oral sex.

“Do you still like getting head and what do you look like, champ?” Corfe wrote in one message to the boy.

He handed over his address to which the boy decided to attend.

The court heard the complainant was “significantly traumatised” by the offending.

Mr Terry had asked for a “merciful” sentence, citing Corfe’s poor health, “dislocated upbringing” and his contributions to society and lack of further offending.

“The law is to protect young people … because their vulnerability can be exploited,” Judge Mullaly said.

Corfe appeared via videolink from Queensland, where he now lives, for the 9am arraignment.

His bail was extended, but he was told he would have to fly to Melbourne for a pre-sentencing hearing in February, where his victim wanted to eyeball him in court and read out a statement on how his crimes had impacted his life.
