I've been on the 2:1 PD diet for few years.

2x donuts for every pizza.

Hasn't affected my capacity to drink in the slightest.

My tailor made shirts are known as Pyramid fit, tailored to my body.

My skin folds put the Michelin man to shame.

More rolls than the local Baker's Delight.

Never been happier.

Took a nap on the beach on Sunday only to be woken up by some Green Peace kids throwing water on me and trying to roll me back into the bay

Life is good.

No prizes for being the fittest corpse in the cemetery.

My gp has warned me to cut back on my carb and sugar intake, so I it eat donuts with holes in them now.

so went and saw the talk last night ... the talk was packed there would have been close to 300 people there crammed in to see Dr Mosley ..
running a little late out comes Dr Mosley with crutches , apparently 5:2 diet doesnt help with clumsyness as he had torn his achilles tendon jogging in Sydney by misjudging the distance to the curb ...
the talk was in typical Mosley manner fast paced with him barely stopping to take a breath between comments but was really interesting concept going through the results of various clinical trials of things ...
then came the q&a ... now this is the second q&a session ive been to this year (the first being Nick Cave) and twice now there has been a pathetic attempt by the vegans to push their agenda ... i have no problem with vegans if they make the choice to live that way so be it but far our some of these hard core vegans who try to ram their agenda down your throats really really irk me !!!

so the basis of this new book by Mosley is to combine a few of his findings into a somewhat holistic approach to weight loss so what we are looking at is a rapid weight loss period of between 2- 12 weeks (depending on personal preferance) in that period that has to be a minimum 2 weeks you are to consume only 800calories each day , that rapid drop is meant to fire up the body into using fat reserves to power the body, the test he has performed on human trials found that after 8 weeks of this drastic change the % of fat in the liver is dramatically reduced and the gloucose levels for people in the pre-diabetic range is massivly improved to the point that 70% of trialed people were after 8 weeks able to be off the diabetic medication ...
after the rapid weight loss period then comes the 5:2 part so this means for two days a week you limit to 800calories the rest of the time you dont really count calories, the trick here is that during the 5 days you eat a more mediteranian type diet of oils, fish leafy greens even a glass or two of red in this period they recommend that you do the 12/12 or the 16/8 eating plan where you eat for 12 hours (or8) and then fast for 12 hours (or 16) each day .. Dr Mosley made a funny comment at that point about the person who first coined the phrase "breakfast is the most important meal of the day" - turns out it was Dr John Harvey Kellogg who mentioned it after creating Cornflakes, turns out Kellogg had this big thing about masterbation and his belief was it was evil and killing young boys (sending them blind was another of his claims) so he invented cornflakes as an anti masterbation tool - he believed that a bland diet warded off the evil in boys to masterbate .... crazy stuff ...
anyway where was i ...
so after the 5:2 portion has been done and the time frame for that is varried from person to person but once the person is in the maintenance side of it then they can go back to normal day to day eating but randomly each week chucking in a 800calorie fast day to "keep the body on its toes" ..

its pretty interesting and as a person who is certainly bigger than i should be seems like something that is doable ... so im going to finish reading the book before i decide if i take on the program ...

So what i take from all that, is i could eat less and get thin... oh and i probably should have some Cornflakes.

I personally use Layne Norton as a reference for just about anything diet & training related. This video explains his thoughts re Keto dieting. He says it’s good if it works for you & ensures you adhere to your diet but doesn’t see any advantage over diets which include carbs. Worth a watch & I recommend watching other videos on Layne where he discusses other fitness & dieting stuff .

Thanks for sharing mate, it's pretty insightful - funny story about Kellogg too, didn't realise that so looked it up.

It's quite worrying how we just accept information passed down without challenging it. Keep us posted with how you go.

I'll add this to my watch list.

Just getting back into a split weights routine after a year of doing mostly boxing and body weight / core strength stuff.

Back injury has had me inactive for about 6-8 weeks, that plus Christmas eating means I've a bit of work to do.

I think we are all recovering from Christmas!

Layne has competed at the highest level in bodybuilding & powerlifting & is well educated. It’s worth bingeing on his YouTube channel.

as ive gotten older im finding the Carbs are a huge trigger for me and my weight gain ... for ages i was on diets i cut out sugars lowered fats and saw nothing significant ... then i cut to a higher fats lower carb diet i lost about 25kg ... unfortunatly for me over the last 4 to 5 years its slowly found its way back ...

the guy was born in the 1800 so ill cut him some slack but he was a strange cookie Mr Kellogg .... he abstained from intercorse his entire marrige even moving to allow for him and his wife to have seperate rooms ...
theres also his theory about putting yohgurt up the anus for health ....
very very strange stuff

My take away from all this is don't eat corn flakes whilst browsing on pr0n hub.
i can see this becoming an ongoing joke for my mates ... one of them have a birthday next week i think we are all getting him cornflakes for his birthday ... we will get it but everyone else will be like WTF ???

Basis for all diets, you need to take in less carbon molecules than you breathe out.

Quite simply, less food in than used, move more, and high energy training before eating so you are burning fat.

It's not rocket surgery but everyone finds it so hard.... including me.

And Trav, my daughter is a vegan and agrees with everything you wrote about them.
She has her views but came to a steak house for her mum's birthday and never ever lectures. Her choice but she doesn't wear it as a badge of honour.

There’s an old doco on this guy and sanitarium, he had some health retreat that was really messed up from memory.

Does she wear leather shoes?

Asking for a mate.

On a different note, has anyone eaten at Pablo's Escoburgers in Prahran yet?

I thought my eldest daughter had become a vegetarian back when she was at high school.

I was driving her home from school one afternoon and was stupid enough to ask, I should have known better having heard the conversations she had with her savage little friends as I drove them to and from places.

At any rate I asked darling are you not eating meat because you don’t like the thought of eating the poor animals, she replied kill them all for all I care, I just dont like the way meat gets stuck in my teeth.

I just thought well you were stupid enough to ask.

being of my age group and my political and social leaning i do know a fair few vegans and for the most part they are easy going and not judgmental of my choice to eat meat just as i dont judge them and their choice to not ... but i think recently we have seen a huge influx of what i call "Guerrilla" vegans who treat anyone and everyone thats not as hard core as themselves as if they are evil ...

No she does not

we had a friend of a friend come to our place once and she was ultra vegan to the point she wouldnt drink wine unless it was vegan (here i though it was just graps in wine) she wouldnt sit on our couch (even though i assured her for the price i paid for it there was no way it was leather) so basically she stood drinking tap water all night with a sullen face ... i get being dedicated to a cause but damn you still gotta be able to live

My vegan daughter wears no leather, no animal tested products etc. She bought "vegan" Doc Martens, vinyl boots that cost more than leather. I remember vinyl shoes were like $12 from K mart in my day.

Yeah its like some sort of weird contest to see who can be more vegan the the next person.
