Bikes are classed as a vehicle and are entitled to their space on the road like anyone else. Treat them like you would another car and you should have no problems. Remember that they are more vulnerable than someone in a car, and also note that bikes are here to stay and you're better off just getting used to them. If they break the give way rules (or any other road rule) then abuse the crap out of them as much as you would a fellow motorist. Courtesy goes both ways, neither bikes nor cars own the road.

PS. Inb4 "bike riders don't pay rego". Heard it all before.

PPS. I'm not a bike rider!

Agreed fully. Never understand why people are so angry at bike riders. They've got as much right to be on the road as other people and for the most part obey the road rules perfectly fine.

There are plenty of bike riders who fail to observe the road rules though, I see it all the time working in town. Some think that because they are on a bike they don't need to stop at a red light for instance.

I was also driving home down Main North rd the other week and a cyclist was just ahead of me, there were parked cars on the side of the road so he decided to swerve out into the middle of my lane and didn't even bother to check if it was clear to do so.

I would have ploughed over him but I had just recently washed my car.

I don't know, I see more cars breaking the road rules than bikes.

Motorbikes are another story altogether though. I reckon I see twice as many breaking the rules as I do see staying within them.

So not on the jukebox of every local and when it plays the bar doesn't bursts into song?

lol, depends on the Bar, Irish pub they might, depends how many Gen Y'ers were in there.

I put that youtube clip on my mates wall and asked him to do a cover of it. He is a member of the Mahones, a great Canadian Irish band so he said he would add it into the set of some of their upcoming gigs.

If I get a newer youtube clip in a more Punk Irish from them i'll share.

Apart from the fact that they are often doing half of the speed limit (not their fault of cause but it's painful getting stuck behind guys doing 25km up a hill on a 50km road) and have their buddy next to them taking up a full lane on a one lane road making it impossible to overtake them unless you're game enough to go into the wrong lane. :p

Has it always been legal to ride two-abreast? I've never understood why you would need to. When I was a kid riding a bike I was always told to ride behind the person in front of you.

If they're in a line rather than two-abreast they're pretty easy to overtake. Otherwise I can understand the angst.

I hope option 2 goes ahead for the Norwood Oval redevelopment.

1 would probably cost the most (redevelpment of the Southern Stand)
3 would be a close 2nd (but would effect local traffic) (redevelopment of the Western stand)
4 could effect local traffic too (redevelopment of the RSL), but probably not as much. But it's at the northern end and I'd prefer the drunken idiots to filter to the South and public transport than to the north and residential housing.

2 might hinder the crowd the most though (development of Coopers Hill). Oh well, more compacted on the hill, better facilities, so better atmosphere?

On the parking situation.

North? Hmmmm, just what we need, more congestion at the Beulah Road, Osmond Terrace intersection. That's going to be hell post game, so no thankyou.

The Parade can handle it better, but the underground carpark at the southern end will probably cost more.

Though, I don't believe extra parking is required. I know people who umpire league games, and despite having a ticket to use the "carpark" at the school, they can still find a park across the road.

Has it always been legal to ride two-abreast?

It is and it isn't. It isn't illegal to ride 2 abreast if both riders are in the confine of a bicycle lane. It is illegal at all times where there a) is no lane and b) there is insufficient room to ride abreast and the rider on the outside is then outside the bike lane (unless they are overtaking, then that's fine).

There aren't many bike lanes that are wide enough to cater for 2 abreast riding. Every time the police see cyclists do it they should hand out $50 on the spot fines. If they are dressed in lycra they should be fined $400 and directed to report to a Police Station within 24 hours and present their drivers license (if they don't have it on them) so they can lose 3 demerit points.

I was taught the same way as you although it seems everyone is a little different. I still remember going riding with my friends when I was around 12 or so and for some reason they believed it was better to ride in the lane that has cars coming towards them rather then behind...

When have bike riders ever followed the rules though?:p
