From 31 May 2012, smoking is banned under all covered public transport waiting areas. This includes bus, tram, train and taxi shelters and other areas used to board or alight from public transport that are covered by a roof.

as an 8 day reformed smoker, i don't mind this at all. however when i was working in the city, my morning ritual while walking to the train station in gawler from the carpark invloved having a smoke

god i miss smoking (but i like having money in my pockets!)

Well it hasnt received alot of attention but the state budget was a horror one. Any progress this state was making is going to be thrown away. We are now have the highest state taxes, economically we are stalling and the state government is having to cut jobs and projects despite doing so only 2 years ago. We are going to hit a $800m deficit with an interest bill per annum of $500m. We have lost our AAA credit rating. My biggest fears are one or more of these. A property slump, an economic slump or a reduced gst share (which Abbott supports) would lead to financial disaster for this state. We would have no way to dig ourselves out besides scrapping all projects and MASSIVE public service cuts on top of the big cuts already delivered. If SA were an asx company it's share price would have just crashed. Things are dire and IMO we don't have the politicians to deal with the current situation. Jay & Jack both have said jobs and the community come first, but they don't understand that jobs & the community won't function if they go down the path they are. Just as it is to rely on Olympic dam to end their woes. It won't! We are an economic basket case at the moment and state labour has completely ****ed up All the good work they had been doing. Rant over

Interesting that the Gawler and Outer Harbour line (which runs through largely safe Labor seats) gets 'deferred' (even though the electrical poles have already started going up along the Gawler line) yet the Noarlunga line (which runs through largely marginal Labor seats - including Chloe Fox's seat of Bright) remains.

Also, does this mean us northerners had to put up with 1/3 of a train line for 8 months for nothing...

Just on the Gawler train line, caught the train in to the city this morning. Had my WCE guernsey on (with a shirt underneath), with the stares I got you'd think it was a Nazi propaganda shirt. I get it's not an Adelaide shirt, but come on.

It was probably because you were overdressed for that particular train service. Caught the train from Salisbury to Adelaide last weekend - all I can say is I'm glad I hid in the back corner of the train, saw some very interesting life forms and their offspring - a bit like catching the FX6 to/from Crows matches

i caught that train for the best part of 6 years and saw nothing at all!

admittedly, the commuter trains don't stop at any of the "real" bogan stations (like a broadmeadows, chidda or parafield gardens)

Why don't we sell the naming rights to the state? It might help with some of the cash flow problems as well as our relatively anonymous brand.

Something like 'Westendistan', 'Holdenland', or even 'Haggleville' might work.

Good point. Also they are budgeting for large GST increases when in reality Jay & Jack know that we are going to be getting the same or less due to the GST review. They are also banking on increasing property prices. Well we were the only state to see an increase last Q in prices whilst the rest of Australia is slipping. We will follow suit. This budget is based on flawed numbers and projections. $850m deficiet coming up and no doubt that will be revised up.

I doubt you'll see those missing posts ever again. Looking at the time stamps, they seem to have lost about the last 30min of posting. Presumably they took the snapshot (for transfer) around 10:30pm, but didn't close the site down until 11pm.

I'm sure there will be plenty of teething issues. Maybe a thread in The Backyard for "How do I do this in the new BigFooty?" might be in order?
