Congratulations to Brett for a well-deserved contract extension, and to the Carlton Football Club for making the correct decision.

The club has improved in each and every year of Ratts' coaching tenure so this was the only logical and just decision.

We continued to make fantastic inroads in season 2011 and Brett was an enormous part of that, and reason for it.

Brett Ratten is a legend of the Carlton Football Club as a player, and nothing would please me more than to see him follow that by adding to that as a coach with premiership number 17.

Lifted us out of the shit that the previous coach and the Elliott administration left us in, with the help of one Richard Pratt.

Has brought us back to where we should be and while he may not be the one to hold up #17 for the club, I am sure that the club will give him every chance to do so in the next 2 years.

So a big hearty congratulations to Brett. This is well deserved after our performance this year. Having us in 3-4th place for most of the year only to slide down to 5th at the death.

I think as well that the club wont be holding the first semi final loss against him considering the shocking umpiring that was going on that day.

Great...congratulations Brett, I'm really happy for him he;s done a great job, works hard, showed improvment, the players wanted him and he bleeds navy blue.

Look forward to seeing him and Juddy holding up the cup :thumbsu:

I'm still not sold on Ratts but he's certainly a likeable guy, and he did exactly what was asked of him. 3 years of finals on the trot and a final win.

What more could anyone have done with our list? 2011 onwards was always going to be the time which our kids would become A graders.

I think we have over estimated our list significantly. From here on then....no excuses.

Well done Ratts, thoroughly deserved on the back of the team's improvement thus far.

Won't stop people having the knives out for you during that whole two years unfortunately.

Where are the ones that said the board had doubts over Ratten? Where are the ones that said that Malthouse/Roos were signed, sealed and delivered?

Where is the one that said that Ratten and Swann were gone?

People need to stop drinking their own bathwater.

Correct.

What's more, have a look at the way our guys played on Saturday night. That was one of themost physical and brutal games of footy I have seen for a long time.

Clearly the players are playing for him. His game plan and tactics are improving, especially within games.

He is growing as a coach as the group grows in their ability to execute his plans.

I still see little subtantial "evidence" from the haters........who 10 days ago were calling for his head, but now, compelled to support, give us the backhanded, "Well I still don't like him but it's the right move".

I wonder if Hutchy is still confused as to why we didn't do this earlier in the year.

The right call has been made.

You people that aren't 'sold' on Ratts do realize that he is yet to be outcoached in a final. Right?

That first final was lost due to Brisbane's power forwards. No amount of so-called genius coaching would have saved that victory. We simply didn't have the horses available to match up against Brown and Bradshaw.

Ratten outcoached Roos plain as day last year. He made all of the right in-game coaching moves to put us into a position to win. Had marks stuck and the goals been kicked when they should have been kicked we'd have won that game.

Ratten clearly outcoached John Worsfold on Saturday night. The players died delivering on his game plan. Had it not been for numerous bad umpiring decisions we'd have won. The fact that we came as close as we did sans a number of vital players is testimony to how well coached the team was and how motivated the boys were to get up for him.

Even in our finals losses Ratts has been able to hold his head up high knowing he did as good a job as he could have done.

I for one look towards how a coach coaches in the finals to decide whether or not we should keep the coach on. He has yet to be outcoached in a single finals match as far as I'm concerned. With that type of record you can't request much more.

If you go back to 2007, we have constantly had a majority saying that we are a top 4 club, we should be winning premierships now... and the big one... Ratts is shit as a coach get rid of him.

Surprisingly, there were a couple of us, like ODN and myself who were constantly saying that we would be a top 4 side in 2011... and the only thing that stopped us was some really shit luck with injuries.

2012 is when our premiership window reaches it's widest point. If we dont win a premiership or three over the next 5-7 years, then there is something seriously wrong somewhere.

Absolutely fantastic news!

Bleeds blue, (seemingly) has a fantastic footy brain and a great relationship with the playing group. Also, the improvement in his coaching highlights his willingness to learn from the experienced assistant coaches around him! - will only get better!

I'm not a hater, I've never been on Ratts back. But just because I don't complain or whing it doesn't mean that I'm sold on him. Personally I'm not sure whether we're using the talent we have effectively enough, specifically in the midfield. I get the impression that the plan seems to be that we throw the guns in the mid and just expect that they'll win the ball more often then not.

Anyway now is not the time to discuss team tactics. Congrats Ratts, well deserved.

Those who you refer to were only stirring the pot. They are the ones who are not happy when the club is enjoying stability. They long for the days of the Smorgon administration, when the board leaked like a sieve, some of the coaching staff were at loggerheads with each other & the players thought they ran the club.

Our club is about to enter into a very successful era, on the back of some astute coaching appointments, a quality recruiting team & significant expenditure overall on our Football Department. We have a number of key players who are yet to reach their peak years of output (Gibbs, Kreuzer, Henderson, Yarran, Garlett, Robinson, Tuohy, Laidler etc) & some who have only just reached the beginning of their peak years (Murphy, Jamison, Warnock, Russell, Betts, Walker etc).

It has been quite apparent this season that the players have been playing for Ratts & some of them have experienced best ever seasons due to positional changes & the faith Ratts & his coaching colleagues have shown in them. It would have been a major step backwards not to re-sign Ratts again. With much of the hard work of the last 12 months most likely being wasted, if a change had been made.

I look towards 2012 with a great deal of confidence, knowing there is still so much improvement left in the majority of our best 22 players.

Hindsight comment n'all, but Ratts has really had to graft as a coach (as he did a player), and I think it may well be the making of him.

Maybe its because Ratts is a communicator rather than a tough talker, but he has stared down doubters from day one (and still has a good many) whilst the all sizzle no sausage approach of a Hardwick or Voss gets applauded.

He has shown a ton of development this year. Looking forward to what next year brings.

Well done and well deserved.

The side is finally playing the way Ratten used to.

Hard and without compromise.

Well said, General. They always did say that the best teams ultimately characterize their coach.

I think that after Saturday night, the other clubs will be look at our performance and wondering whether thats the quality of football we will be bringing to the table next year for each and every match.

And the teams that finished above us will be thinking that we wont be easy beats next year.

I AM PROUD
I AM CARLTON
