We know young is limited. I suggest a better option would have been silvagni back and play 1 of moir, carrol. What did we have to lose?

I would have been happy with Jack back and Young forward

Moir puts up a reasonable showing tonight, he would likely replace Kemp

Not sure you would have wanted Moir playing Kemp's role last night and Jack should have kicked at least 3 goals rather than 1.3 - I can't see Young giving us anywhere near that last night.

No it wasn't.

Last night the players gave their all and played their game style but to coin a phrase it is what it is, we have limitations. We have been given a game style by Voss that mostly suits our list, what we lack is some class and pace.

That's a fact we can't fix immediately, no one on our list is suddenly going to start playing with the pace and skill of (insert random Hawks player here).

That's not on Voss he largely inherited what he has and the recruiting team (perhaps a bit belatedly) is starting to catch up with current best in class (think Hawks) by drafting Jagga. We need more.

To get to a GF we will need luck with injuries and we need to be smart about resting players and introducing new blood so players don't break down because we play a bloody exhaustive game style.
Can't have players of the calibre of Acres, Doc, Haynes contributing diddly squat...

(on top of L. Campo etc....)

Can somewhat understand the way they went last night with Harry out but if he comes back next week, it seems pretty logical how to swing our talls.

Play three tall forwards, with Young as the second ruck. Means Charlie and Harry can play as permanent tall targets forward with a sprinkle of TDK.
That’s a bloody hard match up for any defence.

JSOS goes back. Weitering/JSOS/McGovern is a little light on for height but workable.

Kemp and Haynes go back to the seconds.

I see people calling for Boyd to return to cure our kicking problems. They mustn't have watched last year. He butchered the ball all year.

Was this because Boyd is a bad kick?. No. He is a good kick. But like others in the side, he is made to look a bad kick because he has no loose or leading players to kick to. We do not "use" the ground. Instead he just kicked/bombed/dumped to a group of converging players on a designated area.

That is the gameplan. Contest to contest.

Cerra was/is a sublime kick. Under Voss he is a constant hacked kicker to a "spot".

It feels really old and really stupid as a Carlton supporter to bag the Coach again. But reality is reality. Vossy is way off the pace.

Sicily had his lowest disposals, marks & intercepts of the season last night - Kemp was a big reason for that.

Disagree re Haynes but yeah .... opinions.

Have Campo out of the side for next game and pushing Doc to a wing. Acres while shy of his usual more PRODUCTIVE output would still keep him in.

We don't have a deep well to go to and not sure Binns will do better than Campo.

Sicily also manned Weiters to keep him honest while the Hawks worked around Weiters.

He basically burned his game for the good of the team (Sicily that is)
Sicily only went forward late in the 3rd (from memory) because he wasn't impacting the game down back so the Hawks switch him and Hardwick

I find this so defence so fascinating.

It’s similar to constant defenders of Fogarty … can’t kick, can’t run but gee he must play because he can tackle!

Kemp’s job as a forward is to take marks and kick goals.

Last night he had no marks and three kicks to produce one goal. Sicily played his role last night and was incredibly influential in the last quarter - allowing Battle and Barrass to play intercept in the defensive rotation.

Was that Kemps job last night?

Not sure how to balance it up but think that Mcgovern has to play forward.

In the absence if Elijah he looks to be the sole player that we have that can identify a loose target and move the ball on quickly (and well). Not sure that he's indispensable down back and hopefully Boyd/Carroll can push into that spot.

Get him 12 touches at half forward and we'll be a 3 goal better team.

Secured for a free trade, pick 67, pick 56, and a future fourth rounder, respectively.

Just shows the value of smart trading.

It was great trading by Hawthorn, but he was a particularly cheap trade because he would have qualified as an Unrestricted Free Agent because * only offered him a Rookie contract.

Not sure the coaching department would agree with you.

For example did you see Voss' comments on Charlie's game in the presser?
The coaching department can defend it all they like. We lost - so maybe that’s an indication they didn’t get everything right?

I did see Voss’ comments.

Do you think what Voss said is a true reflection of his view or do you think he was choosing his words carefully to protect his player from the media spotlight?

I liken last night to my golf game.

I play with a mate who is a low-mid handicapper. He'll dink an iron down the middle, hit the green in regulation, lip out for a birdie and tap in for the safest of pars.

I'll blast a driver into the trees, duff a recovery, put the next shot in a greenside bunker, blast out 15m past the hole, and drop in a bullshit putt for a bogey.

In my mind I will invent a scenario that we're not too far apart cos he only got me by a stroke.
This is one of the best analogies of how we play vs our opponents that I have ever read on BF. And I don't even play golf...

Bloody Hell

“If you look at the way we defended, we defended hard. [The] tackle rate was up. We defended our 50 really well. Our forward of centres were really strong.

But we also know we’ve got a little bit of growth to go. So, how do we become that just a little bit more efficient off those plays? We got plenty of looks. There’s no question on the looks. So, we’ve got some marginal growth in there to get after to be able to consistently apply it a bit more often.

“Sometimes just take your moments, don’t make it more complicated"

WTF does all this mean? He has had the side for 3 years!!!!
