I've been saying for a while that Marty Clarke could be our run with player, and today he proved he could do it.

Stanton, who had over 30 possessions against Carlton last week had 2 possessions to half time, and only had 13 for the match.

Marty is the man.:thumbsu:

Recalled during the game that someone had mentioned Clarke in this role and that this point of view wasn't overly well receive.

Great call Mattys

McClures a knob so don't know why you listen to what he has to say

I know, that's why I said that.

But still, I think people should notice the fact that we played well, and all our stars played well, essendons didn't, we won all the key stats.

Only won by a point.

Ed, people ignore u because u r so negative. Ffs we won. I am waiting to see a positive post from about anything.

I would hate your life if u r that unhappy

Such a close game, I could be so disappointed now; but I am not. Because we took the 4 points I am able to see all the positives that were out there today. If we had lost, I would probably take a few days to come around.

The intensity was fantastic! We won that game because we brought our desire, our refusal to give up at the end (not saying Essendon were not great on both of those issues, but we have lacked it for awhile). Someone said it earlier in the this thread; it was similar to the drawn grand final 2010.

So glad I was there, absolutely AWESOME!

I know what you're saying but I'd be more concerned if we were close to full strength and still fell over by a point.

I loved our tackling and pressure and we seemed to run the game out for the first time this season (fitness wise).

At the end of the day 1 point = 4 points.

People were saying the same sorts of things about Lachie Keeffe just five short weeks ago.
Not sure it's a fair comparison. Keeffe had a range of things he needed to improve upon and to be fair, he was going to find it hard to make the required level by playing against VFL opponents. To Lachie's great credit, he's played 4/5 good-to-very-good games in seniors this season and has shown considerable improvement as we'd hoped.

Sinclair on the other hand has one thing to work on. He can improve upon it just as easily in the VFL as he can in the AFL. And he has shown zero improvement in that one area since the start of the season.

My only concern is the margin.

Not a great sign when all your best players play well and you only win by a point.

Stanton quiet, Watson quiet, Ryder quiet, fletcher quiet, yet they only lose by a point? Hmmmm....

doesnt matter. a win is a win. and a win on Anzac say is magnificent. wish it was my team! :thumbsu:

read all my posts today, they have been mostly positive. I've said many times we DID play well. Very well.

The double edged sword to that, is that we only won by a point.

Injuries are no excuse. Essendon has plenty themselves.

Anyone ignoring this should get their head out of the sand. But Lenny20 made a good point earlier, it was our forward line that let us down outside Cloke.

Tarrant won't Go Forward. They would bring in Paine for that Postion

If Reid and Tarrant are both available, either Tarrant or Reid can play Dawes' CHF spot while Dawes plays Leigh Brown's ruck/flanker/utility. Paine is not the next in line to play a KPF role. We have an embarrassment of big men if they are all fit at one time. Paine is not going to help win a premiership this year and should not have to with the talent available to us.

I do agree with most of what you have said Ed, but as an optimist I also believe there is so much improvement in us going forward that a win today was a bonus.

Replace Sinclair with Thomas, Seedsman with Shaw, Ugle with Didak, Buckley with Reid and maybe Keefe with Tarrant, and we win against that Essendon side by 6-7 goals, even in those conditions.

Take Sinclair as the example, he ran into 3 open goals today, Thomas would have kicked at least 2 of them, if not all 3, so straight away there's a plus in output.

Yes, Essendon have plenty to come back also, but I know where you are coming from, we aren't running on full cylinders yet, and anyone who says otherwise is talking crap.

Bucks said we were running at 60% last week, so I'd say today was an improvement on that, probably 70-75%, and then you add the stars returning over the next few weeks and by the Brisbane game in round 7, and especially by the Geelong game in round 8 we should be getting closer to that 100% mark.

But Geelong showed last year it's ok to go through a year at around 75-80% of your average output level, because you need that room in your game to lift when the finals come around.

The win was a bonus today, I wouldn't have been too upset with the boys if we had of lost, because I know we are still improving, and will continue to.

I will apologise once i see a positive post from you. Can you at least acknowledge we had a great win today.

They have a settled team, ours has been monstered even before Rd 1. Our players KEPT them quiet.

I'll take it. And as a sign of better things to come.
Absolutely agree 4 or 5 changes most weeks horrible injury, the Bombers at least had some of their better players on the field even if they were not in peak form on the day,we need to remember who was missing from our team and have been for most of the season.

I really think today will be a turning point for our season we have been hit the hardest hit for injuries and we have had more rumours and speculation than anyone else.

2 wins in 4 days with our injury list I would take that every time and we looked today as though we were all on the same page great signs for the club the best I felt about the club going forward all season.

less than 2 weeks ago I watched one of worst losses I've seen for god knows how long, and against the blues! So one point is a huge victory. But we could have won by far more, and showed fou quarters of endeavour. way more upside than the dons. its 2010, opportunities built on the hard work of the midfield, rather than 2011 when the midfield was able to capitilise on its own work. We'll get ther

We need to keep Keeffe in the team if we are picking on form he stays in he has been in our best 4 or 5 all season and last weekend against Port he was the only big key position defender we had.On form he has to stay in he has earned that by his play so far this season.

If Taz has to go forward so be it we are not functioning very well up front anyway our defence has looked a lot better than our forward structure and that is in no small part due to Keeffe,s play.

Also I think today might be the day where our whole season turn around it was a massive win today we would have been 3 games behind the bombers and it would be very hard to make the top4.

Brilliant tweet by Ugle :D

Poor bugger, did his job well though a move to the midfield with fresh legs could of worked as well. I think he's the first person n his family to own a house or something like that, sure I heard it on the telly. Anyway great game for a debut.

Great win, we could of won by more but the ANZAC spirit kicked in and that kept Essendon in the game, they never say die. Swanny was excellent, he's just such a good player. Pendles was good, think he went bit more defensive in the second half. John good, gotta work on his right foot a bit, gave away a goal through an out on the full kick when he should of gone with his right but. Dawes seems to be lacking confidence, gotta get a bit of mongrel in his game. Buckley nice in defence, brown great comeback, jolly good way to respond, beams fantastic, Keefe solid, seedsman good, Sinclair good just gotta work on the kicking, Cloke solid, Clarke good job on Stanton, Harry is great at spare man, maxxy good, Fasolo good, Goldsack played well on fletcher, did his job, Blair kicked the winner, Sidey great, Wellingham and Toovey played good as well.

Overall great team performance and can't wait till we play next.

We have to reward players with good form and Keefe is in outstanding form. I dont care if Tarrant is fit and ready to go there is no way I would agree with Keefe to get dropped for him, he is our future. Also I wouldnt drop Sinclair for the dogs game becuase his 9 tackles are exactly what we need. If we are losing games becuase of his kicking then we are not a good side and dont deserve to be called premiership contendors.

I hate Collingwood with all my heart, but I can honestly say I'd lose to Collingwood right now than Carlton every day of the week and twice on Wednesdays. I cannot complain with the result today. Fantastic game by both sides with key players out and the better team on the day won. The umpiring was fantastic all day let the game flow.

Great game fellas, and see you in September. :thumbsu:

Don't like the Thomas injury rumours, but the team showed some positive signs today, and our potential big man power will be significant once Reid and Tarrant return. Like some others, I thought Dawes was reasonable, and the prospect of being able to play him solely in a Leigh Brown role with Taz or Reid at CHF/FF is reassuring.

Dawes took a couple of uncontested overhead marks, and like Sinclair, his endeavour and courage cannot be faulted. Sinclair is like a kelpie in a sheap pen, and there were times he came from nowhere to be in the centre of the herd, his tiny frame worming around for the pill. His misses on goal are unforgivable, but there is something appealing in his tenacity and commitment. I remember Jason Wild, but I think Sinclair a more effective inside player.

Wellingham was impressive with his attack on the ball. I really liked his game. Sidebottom won me first goal of the game at 16 to 1, and he was great in the first half. Blair battled manfully in the packs and deserved to kick the winning goal. Goldsack was a really interesting addition to the forward line and certainly reduced Fletcher's impact. Buckley also defended well and disposed the ball quite effectively. Brown was a welcome presence to help the wonderful newcomer Keefe. Our defensive work both forward and back generated the win through perseverance and skill.

The boys were good today. The win was always going to be difficult, but Buckley got the team up and fighting for a gutsy win.

Swanny stuck it up everyone who thought he was fat or self-indulgent or arrogant or any combination of the three. Buckley also showed his critics that the team will play for him, as well as playing for themselves and the pride of the club.
