I have a theory regarding the draft. After reading Burgans article about how WC taking Sheppard at 7 could cause some sliders down into the 20's I though 'Woodhouse you clever cookie, we're going to take Sheppard to ensure more quality at 22/23'. But then I thought to myself, why would we suddenly change our mind when it has been strongly rumoured from a number of sources that Jetta was almost a certainty, and fits our needs perfectly. So this is how it will go. We are leaking false rumours regarding Sheppard in order to pump up his value. The more we appear to favour him, the more his standing as a draftee will rise. This means that there is a good chance than when/if we take Jetta, Sheppard will be somewhat of a slider rather than a bolter, and could be taken by another club earlier than was previously expected. We therefore get Jetta at seven, but still cause some sliders towards our second rounders.
After all why would we suddenly pass on a strongly favoured local indigenous talent for a less-favoured white boy at the last minute?
