Oh, I didn't mark realise the $12m applies from this year.

If other teams have been giving automatic adjustments in their contracts then the extra $2m will pretty much be gone.

But if we've been working on an assumed 10% increase then only $1m of our increase will be gone.

We should theoretically have a spare $1m this year to play with, of which we can roll 5%(?) forward.
Yes I think so

For less money than we were going to pay? Yeah, probably is.
We easily matched Geelong's bid we would have coughed up a mill if he wanted to stay, he's only on 850k at Geelong.... plus brown paper bags.

Thought it was funny how on Footy Classifieds Monday night they said no one would ever match a restricted free agent.... it's like they forget that we did it already.

How? Who did we lose/miss out on because of our salary cap?
Plainly I'm not going to be in a position to produce an analysis of what the funds would be, and how they could be used, on the basis of the publicly available information.

Does that make it an unreasonable suggestion? Are you suggesting that there were no players capable of improving our list who could either be attracted / retained with additional funds?

What would the additional funds do?
Hahaha

Fact is chances are we are paying 100 % of our cap if not it's 95% we don't have any serious amount to attract dusty or any champ

Players have got to want to come here

Gibbs is the best player besides D Jarman to want to come to the AFC, Betts Thommo, Jacobs JJ Carey none of these were at Gibbs level when they came here

Master stroke? It would mean we've been overpaying players until now, reducing our capacity to bring in (or retain) quality.

It could, ultimately, cost us two premierships- last years and this one.
Remember you have to pay 95% of the cap anyway, so the money has to be spent. Now tell me who we missed out on?

You pay 95% of the salary in any particular year, but you're carrying a longer contractual liability on your books than one year. What you're getting in returns for that money can vary in any particular year as the result of front or rear loading. I.e. you can maintain the minimum spend and get very different results.

Is it your position that there were no players over the course of the last two years that could have been attracted with money? Or is it your hope that by drowning the debate in an unreasonable request (that would require me to have intimate knowledge of both the amounts of money and each AFL player's contractual negotiations) so that we don't need to even think about that?

I mean, i've just got to love the sheer front of this. People start dancing around talking about our 'war chest' because we'll start bringing in some big time guns with all this money we have, and at the same time want to argue that the money was of no worth in years to date. The cap money either attracts players or it doesnt.

No it's not, but in your first post, it seems you're convinced it's a matter of fact.

I think it's unlikely more money would have got Dangerfield stay, unless we offered ultra mega dollars.
We obviously had enough to get Gibbs interested, but maybe not enough to attract someone bigger.
Let's say we had a spare 1.5m in the cap the last two trade periods, who of the available players would you target?

Like I said, who was out of contract that we had a good chance to get?
Prestia? No chance.
Trealor? No chance.
This was always the year people talked about as the FA year with Fyfe and Martin etc coming out of contract.
Hey, I am more than willing to kick the club when they screw up, but they havent missed any quality mids yet by not offering money balls.

It would require an analysis of every single player that resigned, and the knowledge as to whether they could have been lured by more money. As I said, expecting me to be able to provide you with that information is ludicrous, however I think not as much as the argument that there would be no such players across the league.

It boils down to this claim, doesnt it: 'when we had no cap space as the result of our management it was totally worthless and couldnt have helped us, but now that I believe we have cap space it's a brilliant and game changing thing'.
