The average age of the team we fielded yesterday was 25 years and 102 days. This is without Pearce who would’ve skewed us a bit older.

The team we fielded yesterday was older than 6 premierships teams of the past 20 years. West Coast 2006, Hawthorn 2008, Collingwood 2010, Bulldogs 2016, Richmond 2017, Melbourne 2021 we’re all younger.

Sydney 2005, Geelong 2007 and West Coast 2018 only marginally older, less than a year older on average.

I think we’ve proven repeatedly that our best is good enough, beating 6 of the top 9 teams this year, and I’d give us a good chance against Brisbane in a few weeks time, who we generally match up pretty well against.

Geelong proved the “too old, too slow” moniker wrong in 2022 and Collingwood are looking to do the same this year, I hope in the same vein we are trying to do the inverse and prove that we aren’t too young and too inexperienced to be holding the cup up at years end. I really do think after yesterday that anything is possible.

Pearce and Omac are a similar age. Age wise that is close to our best 22.

Best 22 I’d sub a fit Pearce for Omac.

The rest are arguments…

JOM for Sharp / Erasmus
Reid for Dudley
Worner for Walker…

All quite similar in age.

is it bad that I chuckled at posts on the WCEs board where they believe they can beat us because we don't like pressure? :)
Oh no, WC are on to us. Not sure where they are going to get any players who can pressure in a week but we could be in trouble in 5-6 years.

Reid is best 22 in current output, let alone based on his potential. He stays in forever unless he's injured.

and what is the average age of our "young opponents" this weekend?

When we take care of business next week we cement our finals prospects. This win is massive and even puts Brisbane in striking distance of the top spot. Until they lose to us of course.
I know this is the optimism thread but last year scarred me so badly I'm not going to rest easier until this is a mathematical certainty. This time last year we were all feeling pretty good about our prospects, too. We've definitely matured and made big gains but even still that Freo PTSD never really goes away.

I’ve been swinging between confidence and this feeling as well. I have to trust we have improved and learned from our previous nonsense.

I’ve also been pumped about the win and on a high since Sunday. Which would make losing Saturday peak dockers behaviour…

I’ve decided to invest wholly in believing. The reason I started this thread was due to analysis that indicated a sharp rise from this season onwards. At times this year my confidence has been shaken.

Our final obstacle is beating teams below us well. Not letting them drag us to their level, not starting sloppy and eventually losing or just scraping by.

Having said all that…. This time last year we were entrenched in the top four and lost our minds against a weak Essendon team.

My analysis showed a strong year this year. Otherwise I felt we should move the coach on. The bonus I didn’t expect was Murphy or Voss gaining confidence and form.

I’m backing us for 15 wins! What a time to be a Freo supporter!!

I'm impressed at Fox Footy uploading full episodes of On the Couch and 360 to youtube. A lot more eyes on it than purely Fox/Kayo subscribers but it makes me question why they do it and how it might affect their TV ratings. Also full eps of Footy Classified, Footy Furnace and Sunday Footy show plus SEN Footy clips, podcasts and the various reviews and tips videos. Youtube is THE go to app for Footy content.

It doesn't mean it's likely, but if we can a) qualify for finals, and b) get Young and Pearce back into the team and hitting some decent form, then we shouldn't be scared of anyone in the finals.

Brisbane have looked great, but they also haven't been unbeatable at home
Collingwood are very organised and good but they have some weaknesses
Adelaide are in fantastic form but I think we'd be able to match them in the midfield and while their attack is amazing, their defence is just good compared to other contenders
Geelong are always good but round 1 asides, I'd still like our chances

I hope they look to seize the moment and opportunity that's opening up.
Win the next 3 if we want to be in with a chance.

I can't be the only one that has noticed that Freo should be 1st on this ladder. They couldn't quite bring themselves to do it, could they?

And I found an amazing stat. If you add up the win column and loss column, the top 9 are 40-40 against each other. That's how tight the competition is.

There was some info going around X recently that showed Youtube as by far the biggest streaming service in the world. And it isn't even close anymore. If anything the shows are probably two or three years behind but if they are smart should upload shorts everywhere and shorts of big hits etc and they will fly.

Wondered that too but it must be taking percentage into account.

That was what I came too, either way we are in a great position and have the opportunity to knock Brissie off as well. If we manage that we go into the finals series very confident!

I think we will win the next three and lock our spot away. Then we will beat Brisbane as well...

Pearce is my concern as bringing him back with anything less than 4 months break and a surgery seems like a recipe for failure. We have to see him in the team before finals. He is often nervy first game back and we can't afford him to break down in a final first game back.

I am confident on Young and hoping on Pearce... Not sure if that is optimistic but it is all I have.

The team I'd select for wk 1 of the finals with a full complement to choose from. Let us know yours.

Ryan Pearce Walker
Clark Cox Chapman
Wagner Young NOD
Bolton Treacy Jackson
Reid Amiss Switta

Darcy Serong Brayshaw

Frederick Johnson Worner Voss

Sub: Simpson

I think Freo would be more likely to play O'Meara/Banfield ahead of Simpson but it's my team and I do what I want.

Walker/Simpson and MJ/Pearce/Wags have 1 month to play their way back in and recover from injury respectively.

Worner/Wagner/Voss all depth at the start of the year but all 3 have entrenched themselves in our best 23.
