I think sometimes it is better to have a really bad loss, especially very early in the season, as it gets the club to wear some flack and pull their finger out. Whether it is the players, the coaching staff, or the club as a whole.
A ‘respectable’ loss might have papered over the cracks, a dismal loss causes changes that might need to be made. So I’m optimistic this loss will be for the best in the long run.

Aren't you the guy that hopes we make elimination finals consistently and doesn't care if we win a flag or not?
Yep because it's better than our current situation of finishing between 9th to 14th every season with a so called talented squad

Yeah, just finished watching 'Man in the Arena', and the amount of trouncing's the Patriots would get and then meet the team again on the way to the Super Bowl was more than I would've thought. But a good beating, if learned from can be a very useful if it allows for course correction and understanding of weaknesses.

I know it's a 23 game season. But how often do dockers turn a season around.... In a good way?

Even if it was a 24 or even 26 game season, hard to see a quick turn around

This is foolish pessimism. Pessimism isn’t smart or insightful. Rather the sign of an undisciplined mind.

We have lost one game. We shouldn’t even be talking about the need for a turn around. I’m happy there is an expectation for this team to finish in the eight. One game isn’t a pattern.

Our 30 seasons have been a pretty shitty pattern 🤣

One game this season. But we lost our last 4 last season so it’s been 5 losses in a row.

This is one of our best ever teams, it’s definitely deflating to not see them living up to it.

Anyways it’s a long season, so here’s hoping.

I agree - and I am hopeful. There is a difference between that and doomsday talk of even if we had 26 games we couldn't turn a 0-1 win loss record around.

As you say - here is to hoping.

Haha I completely agree. As were the many decades for the tiges before they broke through. I don't think we can make a decision on this group based on 30 years of performance. Many of those years before some of the team was born.

And yes... it has been a shitty 30 years over all :tearsofjoy:

All it takes is one Premiership breakthrough for all that to go away. Very few are talking about the past if they lift the cup, only as a nostalgic summary of then to now.

That's the Dockers challenge, the toughest assignment of them all. Nail that first premiership, and from there....who knows?!

It's whether they can break the actual duck or not, that's the challenge ahead ;)

Yep - and I am all in on the decade of dominance!

It may take a coaching change, we know the players are in place. Financially we are in a great place. Off field our focus is mostly on the premiership which isn't 100% ideal but it is close enough.

I am going to love the journey of the next few seasons.

Yep...this

I'm firmly of the belief that the window for this list is only just opening and even if we shit the bed this year, a new coach will be rubbing one out at the prospect of coming in and taking the reins.

You just need to believe in Fresus. JC was also focused on doing other stuff for the first 30 years; side hustles, carpentry, bit of fishing, studies, but then for the next 3 years made his mark and became the best influencer in the world. Likewise, I believe Fresus has been quite distracted but has recently been building to get us to this place and now for the next 3 years will similarly make us the best AFL team in the world. Yes there will be lots of criticisms from the self-righteous know it alls and doubting Freomaniacs, the odd walk with the devil, a few injuries that need miraculous healing, and a long arduous, indirect journey that often doesn't appear to be on the road to 'success', but it will happen and when we look back, what a wonderful journey it will have been and something for the masses to remember us for for 1000s of years to come, all around the world. So go to the game this week, get on your beers and stay, and make some noise so the players remember it is now our time, and to do something (other than running around in circles handpassing). It has been spoken. Framen.

POTY 👏👏👏

All this premiership talking...Made finals once in last 10 years....Just being trashed by 78 points...

I think some of Us Freo supporters have experienced IREVERSABLE PSICHOLOGICAL DAMAGE...

Your spelling has confessed on your behalf.

We are 0-1, take heart! A win this week and we are in great shape to be 4-2 after 6 rounds. We have Bolton, Young and Darcy to come into the team. That is a lot of A grade talent to build into a strong year.

I think Fresus has a sense of humour 🤔
