Up to chapter 3. I have to now follow rules in Rhodes. Tried to feed a guy to an alligator and bought some new threads and finally went to a barber (in the New Orleans type place). Shot a croc and scun it. Killed more people. Best game ever.

I got a bit freaked out when someone said certain missions/strangers get locked if you go too far too fast with the main story which is why I decided to chill out on chapter 3 and do a big challenge instead. I would hate to miss out on some stuff due to progressing too fast through the main story. As it turned out I think there were 4 or 5 stranger encounters I picked up through my carvings escapade which mostly took me backwards on the map. I don't think I can do this again from the start. Agree with it being 'what a blody game' though already. I've been around since Pong and this would make my top 10 easily. Maybe even top 5 if I stopped to really think about it.

What are you actually looking for with the carvings? I got the mission from the geologist dude but I’m not sure what I’m actually looking for.

I googled it and followed the map. There is no way you would ever do it just playing the game. It's crazy.

Is upgrading satchels worth it? I'm not sure I can be bothered hunting all those animals. Wish I could just buy a new satchel. I miss the simplicity of Witcher 3 where you could buy a saddle to carry extra weight. Is this a world where nobody sells satchels?

Can't help you as I haven't been able to yet. I can say I don't feel it's impacted my gaming experience so far though. I have a feeling that hunting those legendary animals might be amongst the last things I do in the game.

Been doing the gambler challenges too. Blackjack and poker were actually quite enjoyable. The poker at the camp especially. 5 finger slice against Micah has been doing my head in though. Never bothered with it in rdr and just the fact that I was playing against Micah pissed me off so much more. Wanted to /throwtabledrawgun so bad.

So I'm marching into the saloon in Valentine to get my awesome sideys attended to, when this pissed fart stumbles into me and challenges me to a duel. Fine, I think, I've a minute to kill, so we head out to the street and face off, he gets a bit wobbly and collapses face first into the mud. Because I'm a nice chap and have a bit of a buzz feelgood thing going coz i'm looking forward to my trip to the barber, I pick him up out of the mud and take over to the docs and lay him next to the floor. You might think I might get a few admiring comments from the townspeople for being such a Good Bloke, but nup, I get a wanted level instead. Campaigners.

A lot of that time today I was just clip clopping on Stupidhead (my dreadlocked minature horse with a bear pelt thrown on his back) through the mountains and foothills. The environment is so rich and detailed it really is mind blowing. I stopped off at an abandonded shack, went inside and spent a few minutes just moving around watching how the sunlight came in through a window and lit the dust in the air. It's just so great to see and to think how far games have come.

I tried to do the timed horse run challenge from Valentine to Rhodes today and was nearly to Rhodes when I got ambushed by a bunch of those Civil War re-enactors. Sadly, by the time I'd looted all the corpses I'd missed the deadline.

Haha ****, I just went to some shack and there were skeletons inside and as I entered no shit a UFO buzzed me and shone green light all over me. I crapped my dacks and ran outside and it flew away. Mad as ****

Just a really nice feeling riding around the countryside, finding a 3-star animal, hopping off your horse, crouching up unnoticed, and bagging yourself a perfect pelt.

Nice way to break up the action.

One of these days, I hope I find the mission that involves the Emerald Ranch's daughter, because the games make a note of mentioning time and time again that she hasn't left your house in years and I'm itching to find out why (also, the guy the in front of her house is a real jerk and I want a chance to shoot him).

Same here. I wasn't interested in any of the cheats and wasn't wanting for money at any stage. Struggling to find things to spend it on now. This game isn't GTA. It's not about money and buying things. It's about the experience which has been priceless. What a time to be alive.


I hear you but did they even have combat rolls in 1895?

Do the stakes get higher in different towns? It’s good fun but I’m still in valentine and playing for $5 isn’t really thrilling.

No still only $5 but there are more players in St Denis though so that's something I guess.

What guns do people recommend?

I love the pump action shotgun so here's me taking out some raiders trying to ambush me
