already I feel the itch to go hunting for some wolves to kill with just my hunting knife, therefore advancing another rank in the master hunter category.

Speaking of which, has anyone successfully completed the achievement where you have to knife 5 wolves and collect their pelts? What is the best way to go about it?

I've tried laying down bait and waiting a fair distance away, but before I get a chance to sneak up on them they always friggin come running for me rather than the bait. :p

- n00b question, but how do I initiate dead eye in normal game play. I have only done it in shoot outs which it automatically kicks in anyway.

Press in the right joystick (R3). :thumbsu:

- Can you sell horses to anyone? Seeing as you can only save one horse, and you need a horse to run down other horses, what's the point to catching them? My best horse yet was killed by a cougar.

Not that I know of, but I've wondered the same thing. I think the point of catching stray ones and breaking them in is in order to gain fame points or something similar.

This game is up there with my favourite of all time - Fallout 3 and Oblivion. If I can get 80-100 hours game play on it, it'll prob be my favourite. What's the downloadable content like? and multiplayer?

It's definitely in my top 3 games after 10+ hours of gameplay.

I didn't think they have released any DL content yet, but I may be wrong.

In regards to the multiplayer i'd rate it much better than that of GTA. The ability to free roam around with your mates, killing opponents, and raiding gang hideouts is fun in itself, let alone participating in any of the online game modes. TBH i've only tried the mexican standoff mode, which is pretty awesome if you have a large group of peeps playing. :thumbsu:

the wolves are pretty easy to knife I found, even with the bait. Just start swinging the blade.

It's the ****ing cougars that are the problem, those ****ers are nasty. You're in real trouble if you're holding the blade waiting for wolves then a couple of cougars turn up.

While we're at it, does anyone know where you find bears and boars? I'm in Mexico & have been for a while, but haven't seen any yet.

Man, I'm about to fly to Radelaide for an 80th til Sunday, gonna have massive withdrawals :(

I started punching on with one of the locals out the front of the saloon, and went on to beat him convincingly. However, 2 random bystanders feel they should take me on as well, so as I proceed to deal with one, the first bloke I knocked out gets back up and runs after me as I walk off. Wanting them to piss off, I whip out my gun and point it at them merely intending to scare them off, but one smartarse pulls out his pistol and takes a shot at me. So I shoot the guy in the face and the sheriff comes after me.

I did the same thing yesterday, although there was a really cool moment of realism with mine. After I had shot the first guy, I aimed my buffalo rifle at the second guy and for about 10 seconds we both had our guns aimed at each other, and Marston yelled some intimidating remark like "You really wanna risk it?" or something. The guy then freaked out, screamed and ran off.

I obviously had a bigger gun than him. :D

Was coming back from a bounty last night about 1am, dead quite, half asleep, and was attacked by a cougar. I reckon a little bit of piss came out. Jesus christ.

A Cougar killed GoldenBoy, first one I'd seen, I was filthy :(

What kit is everybody wearing?

I'm rocking the elegant suit, with the dusters trenchcoat.

A little bit party, a little bit business.

Just got the mexican poncho, so have the whole Clint Eastwood action goin on.

Won the entire pot in poker last night....was rad.

Bloody cougars tho. I laid some bait the other night to get my wolf knifing achievement. Lay it down, go to run behind a bush and there was a cougar there waiting for me. Was dead before i saw it haha

I had a friend over next to me on the comp while i was playing this and i was just looking for a cougar, its dark and all...then i hear a growl or whatever...i turn around quickly, nothing is there and im like thank god, turn back around and it just ****ing jumps me and i scream like a lil girl and i scared the hell out of her as well haha.

As for boars, I found them north of macfarlane ranch, just start at marfarlane ranch and go north, and make sure to check out both north east and north west areas as well. I know its not a specific location but they normally hang around trees (i kept confusing them for rocks :D) and sometimes near the lakes. I actually found them relatively close to Macfarlane ranch

I had a boar attack me at Twin Rocks. Just been attacked by a bull, finally killed it, go over to skin it and get rolled by the boar, came out of nowhere. Scared me more than any cougar attack has yet ;)

If you look at that fold up map that comes with the game it shows you the general location of the various wildlife...

a) do people use fast travel? I'm finding it means I miss out on the great thing about the game, getting to explore the great barren wilderness
b) do people use dead eye? Similar to above I think it makes things too easy, less realistic and a little less fun.

Fast travel : Sometimes, not often. I do a lot of roaming around doing random stuff as it is. After a while if i want to do a mission and it's on the opposite side of the map i'll set up camp and quick travel just to get into it straight away

Dead eye : Now i have level 3, all the time. Just because it looks cool and it's fun to do stuff like shoot off hats and disarm people

We're at similar stages in the game then - I got the poncho too, but I put it on and felt like a little bit of a hobo.

I didn't think about Clint Eastwood rocking one, so I might give it another try.

My worst poker hand - thought I got dealt KA; another Ace on the flop, then nothing, then another Ace; I went all in, other guy shoved...

Always check your cards closely, because a ****ing 4 can look like an Ace :(

Only wish you could rock the cigar too

$82.98 at Big w seems a pretty decent deal, dunno if there's cheaper, if there is it wouldn't be by much.

Hardest thing would be finding it in stock

God damn they are crazy, most of the time its provoked but sometimes unprovoked they just come and charge the crap out of me.

With that "clint" look which outfit is it? I have the duster but thats not the one you're talking about yeah?

As soon as I got to Mexico and found a room so I could change outfit and when I saw the Poncho I couldn't get it on fast enough. I almost rode my horse into Eastwood Ravine (well at least thats what I'm calling it).

My next hunting challenge is to knife 2 COUGARS.

They are the ****ing scariest things I've seen in games. They come out of nowhere and you don't have time to switch your weapons. If you don't kill them straight away you are dead if you're on foot. If you're on horseback and not going full tilt your horse will die.

I've only managed to get one hat, and then I died in the ensuing fire fight. My plan, go to Thieves Landing, someone will start a fight, as people run for cover use dead eye and try and get the hats of guys who aren't involved in the fight. I think if you try to shoot the hat off someone who's shooting at you the game assumes you want to kill them, and shoots them in the face instead ;) That's been my experience anyway.

I did it without trying. You don't have to do it one deadeye, I just did it on a shooting-heavy mission.

This game is set in 1910 which is pretty much the end of the wild west. Sorta like the wild bunch, "men that came to late and stayed too long". Maybe there will be a prequel about John's time in Williams gang?

I think there are plenty of years left in the wild west. I don't think it ended until 1920 or so.

Yeah but the idea of true wild west was well and truly in decline post 1910 or so once federal rule took over. 1920 or so is the generally accepted true end, but the glory days of frontierism was the period from the end of the civil war (mid 1860's) till 1900.

Federal law, the driving out of the native tribes and the beginning of mechanised transport and the phasing out of the horse put and end to the real west. The game itself is even marketed as taking place at the end of an era.

I just seem to think personally a prequel in the glory days would be more likely, but thats just a hunch
