What are people's opinion of Magic at the moment? He seems to be struggling to me with his kicking and his kicks under a bit of pressure are beginning to consistantly miss. Do you think maybe it's time Magic moved aside and we slotted Reg into the forward line full time? Assuming Davis comes back in.

Big call I know but with the finals looming I am just interested in your opinions.

He's kicking hasn't been impressive at all, but what has been is just his hands around the ball. Seriously, i love him when he's near the ball, not kicking for goal though. If he can improve his kicking, he's sure to be a pretty big factor come finals.

There's no 'vs' between them. They both deserve and both have a spot in the forward line.

O'Loughlin has played as a full-forward for the past four years due to fitness concerns, but is probably best suited to a half-forward flank. If Grundy can play in the goal square and O'Loughlin (who is the fittest he has been since 2001 in any case) goes back to his best position, that's good all-round.

I agree with Charlie, there is no 'vs'.

They're both different players and play different roles. Micheal is dangerous with the ball, and is great at marking. However, he is unable to convert all that on the scoreboard due to poor accuracy. He is a terrible kicker for goal, i don't know why. Now, everytime he has a shot for goal my heart is in my mouth...but i still enjoy watching him. If he is on game...he is VERY explosive!!!

Grundy, a new player and a youngster. Expect more brilliance from him, a pretty good marker and a pretty good goal kicker...lots of potential.

Geez.. Reg has debuted very strongly but give him a break... still a fledgling swan... wings not dry yet... but he looks like he will be a gun in the future !They all need 20-30 games to get really going.. too much asked too early could backfire

Magic.. very VERY important is super class act takes a lot of opposition defencive attention.. even in 2005 GF whilst he wasn't kicking them he prevented any effective rebound and destroyed a couple of defenders confidence ( Chick , cant remember the other)
Pity 'bout the knee but ....we need every last game out of him

Er, no one is saying anything bad about Grundy in this thread.. this is being critical of Micky O.. not Grundy.

He wasnt implying that. He was stating that we shouldnt expect too much of him at this early stage of his career.

He said "give him a break" implying that someone was giving him a hard time.. which no one was. So i'd say he was implying that someone was being hard on Grundy.

You having those bad dreams again Chubby.

I'd probably change the title of this thread from Reg vs Magic to Reg + Magic.

MOL has definitely seemed a lot livelier with Reg breaking packs around the place. And seeing him push slightly further up the ground where he can exploit his quick hands and evasive skills has been a feature in recent weeks.

I think Charlie summed it up pretty well.

True, my concern with Magic stems from his kicking only. He has great skills in marking and can create space and take marks that no-one else in the side can. Will never tire of watching him pull a ball out of the air with one hand whilst holding a defender off with the other. It's just converting the goals that seems to be a concern.
