But you'd have thought it'd be announced already? If Clarko is an option you just grab him, you wouldnt be interviewing any other potential candidates. Which makes me think they dont have him and they're waiting to interview Longmuir who will be available once the pies are finished up with finals.

Could be waiting on him to make a decision? Gotta keep your options open in case he says no.

I hope it isn't Clarko. He could actually make Fremantle a decent team next year, with top 6 potential beyond next year. I have always been of the opinion that a strong Freo is not good for us.

A strong Freo is actually good for us imo. If we are both playing finals it opens up the possibility of us playing an away final at home, something the Vic sides get every year.

Collingwood have seriously been kissed on the d$& this finals series.

Geelong blew a golden opportunity to make a grand final, they will now lose to Richmond, I'd be pissed if I were a cats fan. All those top 2 finishes and no recent grand finals to show for it.

As soft run to the GF doesn't mean you're going to jag a premiership. It often ends up in disaster with a pummeling from the team who earned it from the strong side of the draw.

Collingwood is a good team but I don't know how they will go against Richmond. They smashed them at the start of the year when tigers had injuries, then got smashed in July when they had injuries.

Someone was saying to me on Friday night there's a rumour that Clarkson has bought a house over here.

But will believe it when it happens, we also got the same rumours for ages that Sheedy had enrolled his kids at Aquinas and Goddard had joined the Royal Perth golf club among others.

Urgh, it's too depressing to think about.

Some people think the Hawks game was the one that did us in. I always thought the Collingwood game was the one that did the most damage. Lost the 8 point game by a single point after leading by 3 goals in the 3rd quarter on our home deck.

I reckon it's bookies manipulating the punters.

What motivation would he have to coach Freo? It's not for money or status, so all I can think is it would be for the challenge. If he wanted that, he could have gone after Carkton or st kilda jobs and not need to move to the other side of the country.

There is a certain quality about being the coach that gets a clubs 1st premiership. Etched in history forever. Can see Clarko wanting to add that feather to his cap on top of 3peat/4 time premiership coach.

Maybe he just really likes the idea of living in the City of Cockburn?

There’s been very little noise about Fremantle interviewing candidates with the assumption being that they’ve been waiting for Collingwoods season to end so they can meet with Longmuir

If they’ve got their hooks into Clarkson that would also explain their relative inaction as you aren’t bothering to talk to anyone else if you are trying to land the best coach in the game

That said, the “X” was seen looking at houses is a rumour mill staple that rarely has any foundation. I mean if Clarkson and Fremantle were trying to keep this under wraps why would an easily identifiable person like Clarkson be house hunting before any decision was made known

You would think that he only reasons Clarkson would consider coaching the Cockburners would be -
1. Money.......you would think they would have to offer a $1.5m base plus incentives
2. Longevity...... he would want a 5 year deal
3. Gets him away from oversight from Kennett who keeps a tight rein on him.

So the first year would cost them the $1.5m salary plus $800k payout to Ross. $2.3m is a fair to a club that is all over the place profit-wise........NP 2018 $327k, 2017 ~$2.5m. With a drop off in memberships this year of ~6,000(?) at an average of, say, $500/member that's a drop in revenue of about $3m. So based on the past 2 years' performances plus the drop off from membership income there's a fair chance that 2019 financials will show a loss.
With this in mind the club needs to get those members (income) back for 2020. The only way to achieve that is to sign up a huge name coach to give them hope for the future. You would think they would not only get the lost members back but also entice a couple of thousand new members to part with their hard earned. Clarkson fits the bill and will virtually pay for himself (and Ross's payout) in memberships.
A very good move for the Cockburners if they can land him....... on and off the field.

Wait, u wot m8? How much does a club membership cost in WA? Granted im only Vic Gold, but my WCE membership was about 125 bucks and that gave me access to the 5 games in Melb and priority to WC finals in Melbourne.

Welcome to WA mate.
We're all on $200k over here & everything is priced accordingly.

Collingwood have been fairly kissed on the dick so I think I’ll be tipping them. Seems to be their year. Sneak into top 4 after we shit the bed, get the “easier” side of the draw.. including a home away final.. then two of their prelim opponents’ best players are ruled out.

Collingwood: :collingwood:

Watch as we blow our last 2 games and they Bradbury their way into a position in the top 4 not even their fans think they deserved :whitecheck:

Finished 4th but instead of traveling, got to play 1st on their home ground in the first week of the finals via AFL greed :whitecheck:

Get a week off to freshen up and come up against the worst traveling interstate finals team, with only 1000 supporters, missing their 4 best players :whitecheck:

Won't have to travel once again next week and play the grand final on there home ground again :whitecheck:

All from finishing 4th 🤦‍♂️

^ That is some sort of blessed month to be a pies fan. Good on them. Majority of the fans and their club were a class act after last years epic final.

No dramas with Buckley finally getting his flag.
