People talk about the MCG like it’s some sort of substantively different experience. If you ignore the overt historical references painted on the walls as you enter, and the statues etc, it’s no different to anywhere else.

Maybe for MCC members there’s some sort of unique character inflected on gameday, but otherwise apart from being a mammoth stadium that is easy to get tickets to, there’s none of this bullshit intangibility about the place that Melbourne natives pretend there is

Anywhere at Optus shits on most parts of the MCG. Sitting at the punt road end on the southern side during a sunny afternoon is a really poor experience. The only part I liked was bailing under the stand and sitting down inside where it was cool while scoffing a footy hotdog.

It’s really good. Apart from my seats on the wing I have sat in a variety of seats at finals in different parts of the ground and they are all pretty good. I even sat in the very back row on the top level wing at the Collingwood final in 2018 and that seat was good. It was a real effort carrying the beers up all the stairs but the view was surprisingly good.

The only seats that look less than ideal are the ones facing into the sun on a warm day but all outdoor stadiums have that problem including the G.

Agreed with this, I sit there with my flexi membership, it was a thing of beauty in 2018 watching the ball come down seamlessly and skillfully.
