Whinged about ROB enough since the Hawks game and I pointed this out on Friday night but does anyone have an explanation for why in the actual f**k in the back half of the season ROB decided he should change up his positioning and drift into the forward 50 a lot more? Which just ended up clogging up all space and blocking leading lanes for the forwards down there.

I reckon there’s a direct correlation why the marks in forward 50 stat went down and the big galoot deciding to drop into Fogarty and Thilthorpe’s leading lanes 20-25 metres out from goal.

I know some might argue he has just been following his opponent down but my argument to that is I trust Thilthorpe to beat the opposition ruck in a marking contest a lot more then if he has to competing against the opposition ruck and also ROB, and half the time with ROB knowing where the ball was likely to be kicked by his teammate he actually drags opposition rucks like Meek on Friday to where the ball was going to go.

He does a lot of non-AFL looking shit but his plopping himself in forward 50 stuff is just Polar Bear in Arlington, Texas crap.

Great observation

It would be a coaching directive. Road leads back to our coaching genius

It's the same stuff as ROB sitting 10m off a forward 50 stoppage while another player rucks as if ROB is a crumbing forward

Yep

Needs to park himself a kick behind play. Set for the opposition dump kick up the line

It's the best part of his game and he went away from it

There's never any reason for him to be in the F50 at all

Even if by some miracle he marks the ball he's a comical kick so it's completely pointless

Honestly it’s just common sense, that the coaches can’t see it or actively coaching it is very worrisome.

Has to be coaching

I think its a reaction to Tex . Either protection or a dumb ''lets get 4 talls to get in each others way ''

I think it's an "add another string to his bow" form of over-coaching

Just let him be. Do what he does well and stay out of the way the rest of the time.

Add strings to the non-unco players

Keep it simple for the others

Yes his team mates love him

However

A new 3 year deal is looking like a massive **** up right now

The preferences of losers who couldn't even win a single quarter in two finals shouldn't be given a huge amount of weight in my opinion. Not that they are completely to blame, a lot of it falls on the coaching staff.

That said, do they want to win a premiership or do they want to take the piss and hang out with their mates?

For most of the last 28 years we have been paying a lot of players to take the piss and hang out with their mates.

It's the lack of options that is maddening. Even Draper has so many holes in his game he'd really never elevate the role.

We need to target someone that brings something to the table they excel at - whether it be a tap ruckman, strong marking presence, tough/physical body that knows how to use it. ROB's elite traits are his endurance and durability but I think we'd all take any of the other attributes ahead of that.

Always feels like we're a couple of list positions short to bring on a developing ruck, hope we can find some 20-24 year old on a list already to target - about time ROB had some proper competition.

This has to be directed by coaches. I noticed exactly the same thing against the hawks and it made it so much harder for TT to mark the ball

To be fair, ROB has been playing injured. Hopefully, corrective manipulation for his legs in the offseason will improve his gait and coordination, and provide an agility that’s at least better than a newborn giraffe. Not sure how recruiters thought someone with legs like Forrest Gump pre-surgery could possibly play at AFL level.

Mcandrew would have put up a better effort
Needs to be given a go next year... as if nothing else will motivate ROB to pull his finger out.

For someone supposedly so smart, he gets so comfortable & lacks motivation when he has years left on his contract.
