All-Australian defender Nathan Bock will return to Adelaide’s side to face Hawthorn at AAMI Stadium on Sunday.

Bock, who has missed the past three games with a hamstring strain, completed a full training session on Thursday.

Brent Reilly has been omitted and will be an emergency along with Jared Petrenko and James Sellar.

Adelaide trains at AAMI Stadium on Saturday from 10am.

Sunday’s game starts at 12.40pm.

The squad is:

B: Johncock, Rutten, Otten
HB: Doughty, Stevens, McLeod
C: Knights, Goodwin, MacKay
HF: van Berlo, Dangerfield, Vince
F: Porplyzia, Walker, Douglas
R: Tippett, Edwards, Thompson
I/C (from): Moran, Symes, Maric, Bock.
Emergencies: Reilly, Petrenko, Sellar

Genuinely shocked. That's a tall bench. Having said that, that's a short forward line.

I thought his good performance last week may have resulted in Symes being nudged out but i guess Symes has the ability to play hard inside and match the Hawk mids in a defensive sense.

Overall (once they line up in their proper positions, ie Bock on field, Tippett forward, Moran ruck) i love the structure:thumbsu:

While it may seem tall compared to previous weeks, as a running player i would rate Stevens a very similar beast to Reilly, but with the flexibility to play tall as required. Love the fact that this line-up allows Stevens to get back to his second best position of floating utility (he was a very good CHB).

Reidy (or was it the Port dude? My memory is shocking...) on the radio yesterday made a point of saying that "we always consider the last three weeks when we consider form" - I guess that's the criteria that sees Radar miss out. Hopefully he goes back to the SANFL (what is his club?) and plays like he did on the weekend, and comes back in hungrier than ever.

John Reid was saying last night that he reckons form is a 3 week thing not a one week thing, it sounded from teh way he was saying it that radar was in trouble.

Reckon we've gone one tall too many :/

Edit: snap

That is an absolute disgrace. First time this year I've been legitimately furious.

John Reid the peanut brain all but guaranteed that Reilly would be dropped but I didn’t want to believe it. So angry. :thumbsd:

Great to see Bock in, shocked to see Reilly out. Hope he makes it back in the side soon, he was one of our better players last week!

If it goes by 3 weeks at a time, Why is Mcleod, Doughty, Stevens etc. still in the team?
They have been well below their game for most of the start of this season, but still keep their spots.
Petrenko somehow got a game for 8 weeks straight on the back of a reasonable game in Round 1.
Think it's just an excuse to drop Reilly regardless of how he played last week.

Oh well, it's great to have Bock back and there isn't really an obvious omition for him this week, which is a good predicament to have.

Interesting. Used the tribunal last week to send him a message, I thought he responded, now he's dropped.

It doesn't sit fantastically well with me either, but let's look at one bright side - for the very first time, a performing senior player has been omitted instead of a young player. We've seen Shirley and various rucks left out but they weren't really performing. This is the first time a senior player can feel hard done by, which has to speak well to the form of our youngsters and the desire of the club to keep them in the side.

I hope he gets back soon though.

Ill take my Sturt glasses off for a moment and simply ask why wasnt Reilly able to play tonight ?? I know he is standby emergency but surely if youre gonna drop the guy on form you let him go back and gain some at his SANFL club. Why not give one of the other 2 lads a crack.

That said, I think hes pretty unlucky to miss this week but it does allow us to have a genuinely potent looking forward structure.

Agree with Hendo. The 3 week line was simply an excuse.

I think this now gives us the answer regarding James Sellers selection as an emergency or if he was really pushing for selection with his match day performances. I now think he was given the emergency spot simply for the fact the bays had the buy.

If he was close, why didn’t they play him last week as that extra tall in defence or the forward line and drop Reilly anyway?

I think it shows the match committee have very little confidence in what’s left over and that’s why changes during poor spells have not been made.

Except it's Reilly that has to sit out, and he doesn't have the bye, which makes you wrong.

How?

Reilly’s not playing tonight is he?

James Sellar isn’t playing as his team has got the buy, which player is getting held back in case he has to play – not James Sellar.

Why not hold Myke Cook back until tomorrow morning and do a fitness test on player X (assume it is Bock) before releasing him to play in the SANFL if Reilly need to be dropped.

he was good in a lot of ways, but he made some terrible decisions.

for example holding onto the ball, not moving it forward faster enough, on the outer flank at half back late in the first quarter. he just stood there like a rabbit in headlights, ignoring of all things, an open brad moran square. :)
