he was good in a lot of ways, but he made some terrible decisions.

A lot of the poor things I saw him do were early on, once he got into the game he was great and he was one of the best on the field overall. Dropping him on form then keeping him out of the SANFL is ridiculous. At least give the guy a chance to prove himself.

WOW I thought Radar did enough last week to keep his spot

If form is a 3 week thing (which is a load of poo) then Radar should be given an opportunity to play tonight

If Radar does not play tonight I would not be surprised if there is a late change on Sunday

he was good in a lot of ways, but he made some terrible decisions.

for example holding onto the ball, not moving it forward faster enough, on the outer flank at half back late in the first quarter. he just stood there like a rabbit in headlights, ignoring of all things, an open brad moran square. :)

Yea, he did have a couple of moments, the one you highlight being the main thing, but, on the whole, I thought he a pretty good game last week; expected Symes to miss, definitely not Radar.

I'm not always Symes biggest fan, but I thought he did a lot more off the ball than Reilly. I wouldn't have been surprised to see him gone, but equally can see why he's still there too.

I think the point is that we are a very structured team, and in that environment team roles, messages and functions become very important in the overall scheme of things - which perhaps makes it a little difficult to know whether a player is actually doing the things that please the Emperor :p

you can do good things, but if you are doing the specific prescribed things then you're in trouble and that could create a great disconnect between fans and the club's expectations on performance.

A few of you are carrying on a bit. Reilly had 20 touches, 1 goal. An adequate game in a winning side. Hardly "I can't be dropped" level performance

Reilly has had plenty of chances. Has he ever played an outstanding game? Ever?

Del Santo was all the better for being dropped in 08, challenge for Reilly to lift in the same way. Hope he does. Doubt he will

Okay, Reilly is my second favourite player (was my favourite until the middle of last season), and I've been reading this thread, as well as the "Reilly - where is he at" thread, trying to hold back, but I was getting mighty frustrated.
Just 2 weeks ago half of you were after Reilly's head ("Reilly - Where is he at" thread) and saying he needs to get dropped to go find some form. So he's dropped, but brought back in because the SANFL finally stood by a decision, and he comes back in and plays quite well in a team that played fantasticly. Then our best player comes back (well close to our best player) and after everyone played so well last week, someone needs to be unkindly dropped, and the decision is between Symes and Reilly. Both were probably just as good as each other last week. If the Crows took last weeks game into consideration, Reilly might've JUST have been above Symes, but the decision would've been quite hard to make. So now go back to the Brisbane game - Symes racks up 30 possessions at 96% efficiency and was close to one of our best players. Reilly may have played quite well last week (not that hard in a game where the whole team played awesome), but was not as effective or as good as Symes was the week before in a team that wasn't that great. So Reilly's dropped.
And he wasn't dropped purely on form (hence the not playing for Sturt), he was dropped out of necessity.

Very disappointed with that decision, and even more so now that I hear he is not even going to get a game this week.

I thought he responded bloody well after originally being dropped last week and it might have been the spark he needed. For mine he showed just why he can be so important to us, as with the skills he possesses he can be very damaging.

Shocked at first but not angry about it. He was good last week, not outstanding but good. In the weeks leading up to last weeks game he was average at best. He's not exactly had the best season so a run in the SANFL will do him good. Glad to have Bocky back! :thumbsu:

Reilly has been average this year, he is slow and doesnt get enough of the ball. He had a good first half last week but died out of it.

He, with Griffin, should have been traded last year when we may have got something for them.

No argument on Symes either :)

To be fair, either Symes or Radar would've been very unlucky to miss out, but that's life I guess.

The AFC went with a different structure and it meant a small was to miss out.

Reilly got a last minute reprieve the week before and was so one of the candidates to miss out. this is hardly anthing to get angry about.

When we have a sunday game its unfortunate the first emergency will miss playing in the SANFL. Bad luck fro Reilly but his non selection was the result of weeks of form and not just his good game last week.

Lets hope he moves onwards and upwards.

Drummond you need to take a bex and lie down, a complete overreaction.

Trade bait. Time to move him on.

Without the bigger bodies around him that he had in 05/06 his game has gone backwards. We cant afford to waste our time with senior players who are on the fringes of our best 22. If a senior player isn't in our best 14 or so, move him on ie Gill/Shirley/Reilly.

This whole, but we need him for insurance is conservative BS - ie Gill.

If it goes by 3 weeks at a time, Why is Mcleod, Doughty, Stevens etc. still in the team?
They have been well below their game for most of the start of this season, but still keep their spots.
Petrenko somehow got a game for 8 weeks straight on the back of a reasonable game in Round 1.
Think it's just an excuse to drop Reilly regardless of how he played last week.

Oh well, it's great to have Bock back and there isn't really an obvious omition for him this week, which is a good predicament to have.
Can understand 3 week theory if played badly for 3 weeks in a row, but to drop a player after he has had a good game after struggling for a while is strange stuff ... particularly a player who is more a confidence player than most.

Personally I think van Berlo & Symes are lucky to keep their spot ahead of Reilly ... but guess they are on notice.

Agreed, great to have Bocky back (touch wood) - great timing. If her were to drop out, would Reilly or Sellar replace him?

I must admit, I didn't see this one coming, although checking his numbers he has averaged 17 disposals, 5 marks and 1.5 tackles per game over the last 3 games.

Also, this year Reilly has :

- played all 9 games
- never had more than 22 disposals in a game
- hasn't had more than 20 disposals since round 4.
- Only been credited with more than 2 tackles twice (not once since round 5).
- Kicked 2 goals all year (albeit 1 per game in his last 2 games)

Stats aren't everything, but these numbers probably don't paint the most pleasant picture for Brent.

In the last 3 weeks, Brad Symes has averaged - 21 disposals, 6 marks, 2 tackles per game and a few more inside 50's. So between the two, it's close.

On a different note, I'm amazed I haven't read anything about Moran being lucky to stay in the side this week in this thread.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Spot on, I called it at the end of last season for him to be traded, he is a soft six year player who offers nothing........why are people surprised he has been dropped???? Reilly is rubbish.

That is an absolute disgrace. First time this year I've been legitimately furious.

John Reid the peanut brain all but guaranteed that Reilly would be dropped but I didn’t want to believe it. So angry. :thumbsd:

Reilly really hasnt done much in the last 2 season and you are complaining about him being dropped? Get over it.

Reilly's skills are overrated. He has a big kick but accuracy can be a problem. Lots of clangers this year.

This is not a surprising decision in any way for mine.

I don't think he is a skillful player in match conditions.

something about the pressure, speed of the game, whatever influences his decision making and he is not an effective mover of the ball. regardless of what he can do at training.

What i dont get about this logic is... if hes so bad, what trade value does he have?

Do you think theres a heap of clubs dying to trade top picks for our discarded trash?

I guess the theory is that perhaps other clubs will still think he has a chance at being a great player.

I can't imagine it though. If anything you'd think other clubs would have a lesser opinion of the players than their current clubs would.

In this Bryce Gibbs era this move was huge.

Now it's merely a packet of chips.

Unfortunately that boat has sailed.
