Teams looking for a bigger body aroudn the ball may look at him. Someone like the Bulldogs maybe. Playing a significantly different role than he has in the past few years and I remember back to 06 and 07 and he was one of your better inside type players, seemingly taking over Riccuitos role there. Now he seems to be playing back outside where I dont think hes anywhere near as effective, despite the claims of his superb skills.

A pick in the 30s would be around the mark id say.

Yeah I thought about that after I wrote the post. We would be lucky, as macca said, if we got a pick higher than mid 30. Although, I'm hoping the stereotypical BigFooty weight of number trade will finally come off for us. You know the one where we bundle 3 or 4 really average players and trade for 1 A class player. I reckon we might just tempt Carlton with Shirley/Gill/Reilly/Sellar for Gibbs.

Reilly should not have been dropped, and should have been allowed to build on the good game he had last week. Now that Chris Knights has cemeted himself as a fan favourite after a good last few weeks, Reilly has taken over as the replacement whipping boy.

If form was a 3 week thing, Douglas should have been dropped for life about half way through last year. Last week was his only decent 4 quarter game.

So they've chosen to drop him anyway, regardles of his game last week. So, just to make a point, we haven't picked our best 22 players.

I know we played pretty well last week but surely we haven't qualified for Jason Gram-style arrogance yet?

The Crows clearly wanted the taller structure and so had to drop a small. All the smalls played well last week, so we have to go back a week before that where Reilly was clearly the lowest rated player by the club, hence him being the 22nd player named in the side only after Shirley didn't get up.

I can't believe the rubbish that's been written about Reilly not being good enough or should be traded - did those people walk around with blindfolds last week!!

Macca19 summed it up well - any dip in form is related to the AFC changing his role from that where he was playing so well. Reilly showed that to be true last week when he played more in his previous role than at HBF

Reilly will be on our list next year and he won't be traded.

I think this now gives us the answer regarding James Sellers selection as an emergency or if he was really pushing for selection with his match day performances. I now think he was given the emergency spot simply for the fact the bays had the buy.

If he was close, why didn’t they play him last week as that extra tall in defence or the forward line and drop Reilly anyway?

I think it shows the match committee have very little confidence in what’s left over and that’s why changes during poor spells have not been made.

This would make perfect sense if we were playing against the same team with the same structure.

However, as we're not, it doesn't.

I would have to say VB should of being dropped he has not been in very good form although i do think its because of injury but i would say his last 3 weeks have prolly been a bit worse then Reilly

So then the question must be asked why are the coaching staff not using him in this role more often he has shown he can be an effective player for us in that position

He made a few mistakes, but to be honest I think he made more good decisions than bad. I watched him pretty closely and the running he did off the ball to get into a good position when Adelaide was moving the footy forward should be commended even if he did not end up getting the ball.

More than a couple times I noticed him not kick straight away and then kick to someone else in a far better position. i.e open on boundry v someone in the middle of the ground.

I do agree that he should be playing more consistently after 100+ games, but there was really nothing wrong with his game last week at all. I would take similar games for him for another 100 games, that is for sure. Craig mentioned it in his presser after, saying that Reilly seemed to will himself into the game, which is what he should have been doing previously, not hoping the game comes to him.

No doubt he will still be here next year but only because we have a few other standout delistings.

Don't get me wrong, I dont mind Reilly, although must admit I'm not a huge fan. In a mature team such as Saints, Geelong, AFC 2005-2007 Reilly would be a very handy player. However, for a senior player, his lack of physical presence in a developing team is unacceptable. Reilly should be standing up and leading from the front, setting an example for the kids not a senior player who only plays a bit part.

Largely irrelevant, Reilly has been in the system 4 years longer than Douglas. You need to make allowances for younger players while they are developing.

I said earlier in the week that I thought it would have been Symes that made way for Bock.

So if we drop Reilly we are arrogant? If we kept him in we are not? seems like a stretch in logic if you ask me.

Reilly got dropped last week. To me, dropping a senior player is a bit bigger deal than dropping a fringe player or a kid, ie Petrenko. So dropping Reilly is at least a bold statement, at most a career-ender.

But one late change later and he's back in. So not only was he not punished, but he goes on to play his best game of the season. The cheek! So for Reilly it seems that if you do the crime, you don't have to do the time... Unless the AFC decides to drop him anyway! That'll learn him.

We just dropped a player who played well. And to justify it JR goes on the radio talking about the Three Week Form Guide that apparently forms the basis of all our selections, even though this is the first time we've ever heard about it.

Springy is absolutely right. At the time, Stenglein was rated as our best young player by an absolute mile and a lock for the captaincy when Roo retired.

At the time it looked like a win-win-win deal - we got a young & inexperienced (but promising) Thommo + a 2nd round selection (which we wasted on Gibson), Melbourne got pick #12 for Thommo, while the Weagles got a rising star in Stenglein.

Time moves on and the deal gets better for us every day as Stenglein goes backwards while Thompson marches on.
