Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I can see O'Keeffe forcing Bannister off the list.

O'Keeffe is a great lkick and another tall utility like Bannister.

The GC draft concessions might ensure O'Keeffe gets a good run on our list.

I'd like to see ROK play as a HFF if he gets a game this year.

ROK pushed forward in his Youtube highlights package and converted his shots with a technique Fisher can only dream of.

A very impressive kick.

What are the concessions??

Hmm, Fisher HBF, ROK HFF...

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Joseph is the bigger threat to Bannister. If he can someone figure out how to tag and get the ball at the same time Bannister's career is over.
Disagree.

O'Keeffe is a utility like Bannister and not a small tagger like Joseph who has great pace and agility.

I wouldn't play Bannister on an Ablett, Rioli or Harvey...

Bannister would be torched for pace.

Joseph was a ball magnet as a junior.

It says alot for AJ's concentration that he stuck to tagging his man ahead of chasing kicks.
Is it just me or did Rhysy boy seem to be a little large?
ROK is a big boy and could easily be mistaken for Bentley.

Lacks the pace of Matthew Broadbent who went to Port Adelaide.

Will find it hard to get a game ahead of our defenders and in the midfield if he isn't quick.

We need to find a gun and A grade medium half forward like Steve Johnson as much as we need a young KPP.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

I liked what little I saw of ROK. Did anyone see that bullet-like pass? At first I thought it was a mis-kick it was so low.

Plus he wears #20, so he must be good.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

He possibly could, but what's the point of trying to develop a player recruited as a defender/midfielder into a forward?

Makes no sense.
Because ROK is a better kick than Fisher and has a strong body.

Fisher is unbelievably injury prone with his slight frame.

Jack Anthony goes alright as a forward after being drafted as a defender.

Great kick for goal.

Campbell Brown can play back and forward.

How about we let the kid develop his game a bit before we start using him to replace senior players with plenty of runs on the board?

Yes, I think Fisher would be better suited to cricket too... :thumbsu:

He just hasn't made it as an imposing forward, where as ROK seems to have that potential. I'd rather see Fish play down back.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Anyone have any idea how our own ROK is looking down there in the 2nds at the moment?

I know it's only been a couple of games (I assume, I don't follow the VFL) and he's more or less a bottom aged project player, but I have a strange but really good gut feeling about this kid so I'm just interested to know how he's looking so far.

An unusual heart injury has stalled the progress of Carlton recruit Rhys O’Keeffe.

The former North Adelaide player suffered a heavy knock to his chest while playing for VFL side Northern Bullants last month, which caused a build-up of fluid around his heart.

"I tried to play the next week but I couldn’t breathe,’’ O’Keeffe said.

"I ran about 50m at the start of the game and just blew up.’’

The 18-year-old received treatment for the injury, known as an inflamed heart sac, and is not expected to experience any further problems.

"I had a couple of tablets and it’s all good now. It was only a minor thing.’’

O’Keeffe said he discussed the injury with Carlton assistant coach Brett Montgomery, who suffered from heart problems during his AFL career.

"He said he’d had it when he played as well.’’

The left-footer has been forced to return through the Bullants’ Reserves but is still focused on making his AFL debut this season.

"It’s a tough team to get in to at the moment.

"I’ve been playing at half-back still, that’s where they’re trying to develop me.’’

The 188cm defender was taken at pick 65 by the Blues last season after a standout season with North and the state under-18 side.

O’Keeffe was an All-Australian and named SA’s most valuable player at the national championships.

He is living with fellow South Australian Jordan Russell and is mentored by Andrew Carrazzo.

"He (Carrazzo) broke his arm in the preseason and then came back and broke his finger.

"So I’m giving him a bit of support too.’’

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Is a debut still out of the cards? I don't know how he's been fairing in the VFL but he's skills may prove to be a winning card.

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

When I was back in Aus., I went to a few training sessions. He didn't seem to join in the main group or the rehab group (I assume he was injured in some way however), but spent a lot of time with Diesel working on his kicking skills. The club would seem to be investing a fair bit of faith in his skill development........as a fan I think we can expect this to be real aspect of his game when he makes his debut.

At these same sessions he could be overheard saying that he would be taking the kick outs for the Ants, does anybody know how this has been going?

Re: Rhys O'Keeffe

Ostetitis Pubis, or however the hell you spell it. Goddamn - was hoping he'd rise this year. Ah well, he's got six months to recover I guess.

We need him to make it by year end.It will be rather disappointing if he still not played a game in AFL in 2 years as he isn't a key position player.
