A couple of things for you and others to consider when it comes to Grigg:
- was ranked 7th at the club for clearances and 8th for first possessions.
- was ranked 5th for kicks to advantage which was better than supposed elite kicks in Deledio Conca Batchelor & Martin.
- for kicks direct to the opposition he ranked 15th well behind the likes of Cotchin Martin Deledio & Newman who are all considered to be much better kicks.
- for critical errors Grigg was ranked 23rd at the club with an average of 1.1 per game from 21 games. Also ranked 24th for skill errors.
- ranked 8th for score assists and 5th for score involvements.

Now I know that some will say that stats mean shit, but to me it does back up the 'highly paid professionals' opinion on Grigg and what he brings to the table. He can win his own footy, can deliver it more often than not to the benefit of his teammates, which either allows us to maintain possession or score.

Thanks RT, a measured response backed up with some facts. Sure stats aren't everything but they appear to be "seeing" things many of us do not. I know that when I go to the footy there's heaps I miss. You can add Griggs clearances to that list...I'll have to open my eyes.

Really interesting. Griggs kicking is really ugly, seems to be very loopy and hangs. Always makes me nervous waiting for his kicks to come down as they seem an open invitation. Though if his turnovers are so low he must be hitting a target more often than not.

He seems a bit of an easy target for most posters as he looks very laconic on the field. If he looked like he was working harder I wonder if he would cop the same amount of grief.

LOL no smarter than any other poster around here.

And here finally, is Santa's most accurate post ever ;)

Santa.... while you believe you are always right, perhaps you fail to understand that most people who post on here also believe they are right. Why would people post stuff they didn't believe? Believing in something doesn't make it true....

Blues looked horrible yesterday but is wasn't exactly there best 22, wouldn't take anything from that.

They would have to be $1.20 favourites and we would be sitting at about $3 if I was doing the book.

Blues were missing Walker, Judd, Warnock, Robinson, Waite, Jamison, Duigan (and Murphy from the first match).

We were just rusty and playing an inexperienced side. We'll actually have the fittest list for a round 1 clash we've had in a long while!

FB: Batchelor Rance Grimes
FF: Betts, Hampson, Walker
HB: Newman Post Morris
HF: Collins, Waite, Garlett
C: Conca Foley Deledio
C: Lucas, Gibbs, Simpson
HF: Martin Vickery Nahas
HB: Duigan, Henderson, Yarran
FF: Miller Riewoldt Maric*
FB: Laidler, Jamison, Joseph
Foll: Maric Tuck Cotchin
Foll: Kreuzer, Judd, Murphy
Inter: Houli Jackson Ellis (Sub) - White
Inter: Sotland, Carrazzo, Robinson, Ellard(s)

I looked over Zee's match up's, and considering we're comparing a side talked up (rightly so, IMO) as a top 4 side for 2012, and one that will have to play to it's full potential to sneak into the 8, there wasn't a lot of obviously one sided match up's. Perhaps I'm over-rating my own side, or underestimating or not familiar enough with the quality of all those Blues players.

I think what this, along with discussion in the "right mix" thread and others are highlighting is that we're two or three truly classy/quality defenders (including 2 KPD's) and a little more development/gelling time across the board, away from being a decent side.

Sorry if that's stating the obvious :D

No its not...

With a classy/quality CHB...Richmond would walk into the Finals...:thumbsu:...

Hopefully big Postman is the answer! (or even Griffiths, but I doubt it)

Failing that I really think we should be targeting one with our first rounder in the 2012 draft. Then a quality mid.

I'm not discounting the fact that they're potentially already on our list, but I think we still need improvement from Rance and that third tall (Grimes currently the obvious option) as well as a quality CHB you refer to (again, potentially Post).

If we jagged ourself a gun CHB but saw no improvement from the other two, I think we're still a little way off having a truly solid back 6.

And the fact that some mock rd1 teams are listing Morris playing on Garlett or worse still, Betts, worries me. It highlights that we're still a small, quick defender light on. Again, Morris (or another on our list already) may be the answer. I just think for rd 1 a first gamer playing on a tricky goal sneak like that is a bit of a concern...

Morris. Post. Grimes.
Houli. Rance. Batchelor.
Deledio. Martin. Nahas.
Conca. Vickery. Newman.
Griffiths. Riewoldt. Ellis.
Maric. Cotchin. Foley.
Tuck. Dea. Edwards + Jackson.

Agree with this.

It is always so tempting to pick up another midfielder to add to the rotation, but at the end of the day I think you need to spend big if you want a really classy defender. If we snuck inot the 8 we would have pick 9 or 10 in a strong draft which would equate to another gun player.

Just hope it is a backman.
