That's awesome.

Where is your evidence?

Ive worked on sites in wa - greenough solar farm for one where out of 30 odd blokes on site - 22 went for west coast, 6 for the dockers, 1 for collingwood and one for essendon

Now of course a healthy percentage of these "go for wc or freo out of blind parochialism and never watch a game except maybe finals or gf's

We are a state of 2 million and the vast majority are west coast or freo supporters - the ones who arent are those few that kept going for vic clubs after the eagles and dockers came in, vics who moved here or the odd supporter that bucked the trend and followed vic clubs.

Think of it this way - how many victorians follow the eagles or the dockers?

richmond are not even in the top 10 football clubs in australia !!

In size?

If we include the NRL clubs that's a massive call unless you're counting soft 'they're from my state and I can name Adam Goodes and Barry Hall' kind of support.
If we're not including the NRL clubs that's ridiculous.

yes its includes NRL clubs , if we exclude storm & swans richmond may make the top 10

1. brisbane broncos
2. melbourne storm
3. south sydney
4. collingwood
5. essendon
6. parramatta
7. hawthorn
8. canterbury
9. sydney swans
10. carlton
11. west coast

then a big big gap

I'm sorry but why what metric are Sydney and the Melbourne Storm or Carlton bigger than West Coast.

West Coast fans can actually name more than 5 players on their team

That's convenient.

You play all of yours in Tasmania.

Cool.

Our home games against non Victorian clubs since we started playing 4 games in Tasmania (2007)

Sydney 72,760 (2014)
Sydney 63,319 (2015)
Sydney 54,725 (2013)
West Coast 50,027 (2012)
Sydney 49,527 (2008)
Sydney 48,398 (2007)
Sydney 44,464 (2009)
Fremantle 43,587 (2014)
Brisbane Lions 39,007 (2007)
Sydney 36,007 (2010)
Brisbane Lions 35,492 (2012)
Adelaide 33,525 (2012)
Port Adelaide 33,274 (2009)
Adelaide 32,583 (2009)
West Coast 32,567 (2013)
Fremantle 31,927 (2011)
West Coast 29,138 (2008)
Gold Coast 28,112 (2013)
Port Adelaide 27,532 (2011)
GWS 26,518 (2012)
Gold Coast 23,098 (2012)
Port Adelaide 21,287 (2010)
GWS 17,906 (2014)

70,000 plus - 1 (1)
60,000 plus - 2 (2)
50,000 plus - 4 (4)
40,000 plus - 8 (8)
30,000 plus - 16 (6)
20,000 plus - 22 (6)
10,000 plus - 23 (1)

So the correct answer is that we have played 23 home game against non Victorian clubs (soon to be 24 this weekend) in Melbourne since we expanded our reach in Tasmania.

Of those 23 home games (out of 61 mind you) the average crowd is 38,036.

Not bad for a club that supposedly shunts their low drawing home games to Tasmania :drunk:

whats facebook got to do with it?

Surely crowd numbers are more relevant.

Ah so a handful of games this year that Richmond boasts a decent turnout when in form and all of a sudden you're the biggest club in the land! How about we say the last 10 or 20 years of crowd numbers? That'd be a fairer, more realistic figure?

But yes, bums on seats are what should dictate LONG-TERM how popular a club is.

Why are all the games is Tassie excluded?

They are your home games right?

I am not saying anything.

Read the article.

um that's not evidence, that's just fluff

West Coast get our mad $$$$ for a reason.

2013 but not much would have changed in two seasons.

Given that West Coast sell more memberships than Subi has seats and that we don't sell reduced members at home (most of those reduced members would be WA expats living in Melbourne) and can charge much higher membership prices than other clubs it's quite apparent that our membership figures are restrained by the capacity of Subiaco.

So
1. The membership figures underestimate our support.
2. We have enough support to get the highest membership revenue in the league.

Why are all the games is Tassie excluded?

They are your home games right?

Because they are not relevent to home games in Victoria are they?

Why cant Richmond draw 40,000 plus to home games against non Victorian clubs.

Hawthorn has 'only' done it 8 times (above)

...supposedly we dont play any home games against non Victorian clubs outside Tasmania :drunk:

This has to be the dumbest s**t I have ever read on this forum

Rnd 9, 2015 Hawthorn vs Gold Coast , crowd number 11320. lol
Rnd 19, 2015 Richmond vs Gold Coast crowd 38,500

The defence rests your honour.

Cool, in Tassie

Lets compare like for like games in Melbourne

Round 14 2014 Richmond v Sydney 34,648
Round 19 2014 Hawthorn v Sydney 72,760

As poor a comparison as this is (the 2013 and 2015 games only got 54,725 and 63,319) at least we are comparing fixtures at the same stadium

Where were the mythical Tiger army for this one?

Of course you're not because you know that you're not the biggest club (which is what this debate is all about if you've been following it).

This.

200 word fluff piece that quotes a marketing consultant (not a creditable one mind you) gets a nice run on a football forum

I just hope the Tiger army cracks 60,000 to their game against the biggest club in the country on Saturday afternoon...it really shouldnt be that hard if even Melbourne can manage it

Membership figures alone would suggest that West Coast was only just bigger than Fremantle. Fremantle membership slightly understates their support in my view and would be top 6 in the league imo but anyone who has lived in Western Australia knows that West Coast are a much bigger club in terms of support than Fremantle.

Not sure that we're bigger than Collingwood but would not be surprised if we were
