There is genuine development to be gained from playing in the SANFL when you’re a lanky key forward. Everything about Riley now indicates we’ve nailed his development.

Only time you could genuinely argue he should’ve played over Himmelberg was the first two games of 2023 but is that really worth revisiting now.

We can still use him sparingly when needed. His stints in the ruck today were very impactful.

Absolutely. I think the way we're using him at the moment is about perfect. Dominant force up forward, then chops out in the ruck and impacts on stoppages. Yes, he could get injured in the ruck, but he's a beast these days. He's just as likely to injure someone else.

Insanely, he has gone to another level today. Smooth and evasive in traffic, dominant up forward.

Commentators mentioned a stat during a busy play - something about having 4 weeks in a row of 3 or more goals, anyone remember the detail?

It was five games in a row with 3+ goals, which is the longest active streak in the AFL.

Loved the goal celebration afterwards with that jab on the goal post padding.
If he keeps getting 3-4 goals a game, and does some ruck and defense work, he’s in some chance for the Brownlow this year.

As others have mentioned, was really struck by how much he impacted the game going into the ruck in the third quarter.

If we move to a ruck with less endurance in the future than ROB he will likely have to attend more ruck contests. Good to know that he can have such influence in that role as well.
