My Pa passed away from MND in 2021, he was diagnosed in 2000 and lived with a very slow progressing form of it. It's truly an awful sentence and seems to affect people who played contact sports on grass at an elevated rate. Can't pay tribute to Neale enough for the work he has done in raising awareness for the illness. Before Big Freeze and Neale Daniher I had to explain MND by listing off the symptoms, now I'd say it's almost just as well known as cancer in Australia.

R.I.P neale, your name and legacy will live on through the AFL community.
Man was a warrior for all his fight.
sleep now neale

It's a sad sad day, when he was first diagnosed it would of been easy to hide away out of the public/media eye but he didn't, he dedicated his last year's fighting the beast head on and raising much needed funds and bring awareness to this horrible disease. Rip legend

Neale Daniher was a man of spiritual substance and one who left this world a much better place for him having lived in it.

The pluck and determination of Neale, who fought adversity with a courage that was simply inspirational to those of us who watched on.

A genuine footballing personality and one that garnered the united admiration from the footballing loving public , his personality transcended, the usual Tribal Club Rivalry and all who were mindful of his journey had the utmost admiration for the very Special Man.

The Reverend will hold a special place in the hearts of many in this country today.

RIP 🌹

Really sad. His individual valiance alone in fighting that bastard of a disease for so long was heroic enough, let alone the millions and millions he’s raised so that future generations might stand a better chance against it.

True titan of the competition, maybe the most universally loved and respected footballing figure the game has ever seen with all that he did over the last decade and a bit. Time to go get another beanie :(

Look, Warney was a great cricketer, but I have long felt that the MCC missed a trick in not re-naming the Great Southern Stand as the Neale Daniher Stand, and not doing so while he was still alive.

The man's contributions in fighting and making visible one of the worst death sentence diseases on earth have been extraordinary and go beyond football.

It was tough to watch him go from fluent sentences as Melbourne coach, to strained words a decade ago, to barely anything recently.
Rightfully we'll remember him for what he's done after coaching but he took a Melbourne side from 14th to a grand final in a year. Not many coaches can claim that.

Life well lived old mate.

Wasn't he given less than two years when first diagnosed? Survived 13 years.

Inspirational.

RIP

His legacy to the fight against MND is bigger than his playing or coaching career. Certainly made nearly every Australian aware of the ruthlessness of this issue.

RIP Neale.
So true.

Many people have used their profile to help a cause, Neale was more successful than most.

Horrible disease, exemplary human.

A quality human , leader , just an amazing man and before he even had this disease he just always seemed such a genuine loveable man, but his battle and they way he attacked it made him a hero to me.

Just a sad day RIP
