I agree with this statement - Shouldn't make major changes just for the sake of it or experimentation.

If possible, I'd give Sampi and Gardiner an extra week off.
I think Hanson will be right to go after the mid season break.
The only change i'd consider making is dropping Selwood for Butler or perhaps Atkins or even a Rowan Jones who i hear has been in great form and a leadership group player at the club.

It's Hansen and Adkins.

There is no way that McDougall should be in against Carlton. I saw a replay on Fox Footy last night between Sth Freo and Perth and MCDougall was a joke. He dropped 4 or 5 easy marks and was backing out of contests and the whole second half had about 3 kicks. He is not right. I wouldnt play him til way later in the year.
Some sanity!

Regardless of my biased opinion towards McDougall, no player should get a game in the seniors unless they've earnt it, by showing superlative form and / or having a sustained red hot dip in the WAFL. Or unless you're a champion, Cousins, Kerr, Matera, Cox, Judd, etc....

I'm sorry, but not having a ticker / not having a go in the WAFL.... is not a criteria for promotion.

For the record, there are only 2 players I have ever gone to town on, since day dot at WCE:

1). Gehrig - most talented & laziest player rolled into 1, I have ever seen. Quite rightly he was boeed by the crowd, and I was one of them booing him and calling him a lazy F*** and every other profanity at him.

2). McDud - This guy should be champing at the bit. He should be livid and dominating in the WAFL.... doing anything he can to get back in the seniors. He doesn't have it in him ATM. Maybe he can grow a ticker in 2-5 years, but not ATM.

1). The G train has gone onto bigger and better things since leaving West Coast

2). Matera took till almost halfway through the season to get his act together after missing most of the pre and early season as well

I think you should be able to give Dougs some more time before you judge him so harshly

Unfortunately, Like the Gherigs, Fevs and Richo's of this world. McDougall does have a problem with his body language when he is unfit or not playing well but that does not make him a dud

G-Train - Yes, he has gone onto bigger & better things. I was not sad at all, to see him go. We got Kerr & Sieralowski out of the deal, and I really think we won that one.

Matera - Has been a sustained champion for a long time and has the runs on the board. As such, deserved to be straight back in the seniors, even though, at the time, I was questioning the merit of his selection.

McDougall - Yes I'm being harsh in a way and yes its unfair to call him a Dud. However, I still say:

a). He doesn't have it ATM.... maybe in a few years, maybe... but not ATM. So I've written him off for the immediate future, but still have hope in 2-5 years time.

b). Form - Regardless of body language, he does not have form ATM and looks unlikely to regain form in the immediate future. Big If.... IF that was me, I'd be hitting the gym night and day, doing extra Aerobic sessions, extra training, I'd be trying my guts out in the WAFL to get back into the team, as finals are not too far away.

Just my honest opinion.

All the points you have made are pretty well spot on regarding his form but it is a pity he is playing for a team that is getting thrashed on most occasions

It is not the best environment for a natural forward to thrive in

Never flirt with form... Never.

Bombers in 01 flirted against Richmond in Round 22, losing so that they could control who they played in the first week of the finals. They played Richmond again in the first week instead of playing Carlton. They then belted Richmond again by 70 points after losing to them by 24points the week before, only to go on and lose the GF.

We should ALWAYS play our best side, never flirt with form or underestimate the opposition.
I'm not sure what that example is meant to illustrate.

It sounds like the Bombers came out of it OK. Or are you suggesting that they lost a GF to the modern era's greatest side, while themselves devastated by injury, purely because they flirted with their form 3 weeks earlier.

i think definately keep Edwards - the more he plays the more he'll learn to kick straight
take out Nicoski and put Butler in

Isn't that what the WAFL is for. I'm pretty sure he could learn how to kick there.
Butler for Nicoski. Interesting, but are they a ideal direct swap?Nicoski is more of an outside midfielder/HBF.

yeah, but afl is a totally different scene than the wafl. afl has a better players and you learn to kick goals against guys like mal michael and james clements the more your confidence grows

I think we've done enough rookie blooding. It's time to prepare for the business end of the season. I think that means we have to get two players AFL fit. Doogs and R Jones. I think they will be needed in hard finals matches. At some time Q is going to have to play CHB, Hunter is doing great but may get caught out against physically stronger CHF's.

Not a bad idea Frodo. Our defence hasnt really been up against it all year. We havent needed to go to 'plan B' so to speak. Lynch is plan B for CHB. Bring Doogs in to play FF, and swing lynchy back for any amount of time. We dont want him to have to go back for the first time in the year in the preliminary final against Tredrea.

I think you had quoting issues. Take a look. You quoted yourself.

An opponent has no bearing on whether a player can kick straight or not. His set-shot kicking will not improve by playing on the likes of the players you've listed.

However i still think he should stay in the team for Rnd 14.
