We didn't take a contested mark inside F50 all game. He took a mark on the lead, got an absolute gift with a 100m penalty and then a other gift from Murphy. He was involved sporadically and could only manage 5 marks for the entire match.
Did you see our deliver into inside 50, our inept midfield decides to boom it into 50 once Carlton players flooded back.

Come on mate, you've played the game. I'll agree JJ can be guilty of that at times, but you could see the statues in F50 today clogging up space.
There is no space against good teams (and only sometimes against ordinary teams).

The lace out delivery that hits a chest is a rare occurrence, especially against good teams and in finals. But our guys rely on it.

Zero contested marks inside 50.

Zero.

Did you see any of our forwards trying to lead thru the congestion? We had plenty of opportunities to enter F50 at speed and neither Walker or Jenkins gave the midfield any target. They didn't even lead up to the wing so we could bring the ball out of defence. The amount of times we had to kick short to a contest because they were both 20m away on a slow half lead towards the kicker or completely out of position was insane. Garry Lyon couldn't believe their lack of presence and it's been the same theme from the coverage for weeks.

Again - we didn't take a contested mark inside forward 50 for the entire game. Law of averages says you should take at least one.

We don't have too many contested markers, agree.

But our slow and crap ball movement helps reduce our chances of contested marks as well. Give them at least a chance, nup, we wait until everyone (opposition) has got back to outnumber, have 2 or 3 on 1's etc.

Then, bombs awaaaaaaaay.

Walker gave some very good leads but were ignored by our inept midfield (that is a forward craft he excels in) and as they took too long, then they decide to boom it inside when Carlton's got their players back there and we were getting smashed in the centre bounce as well.

His leads were shallow, slow, circular, and in positions that even if he had marked it would have had no impact.

As forwards he and Jenkins should have taken at least one contested mark between them. Regardless of what you want to pin on our midfielders, who clearly have no confidence when it comes to kicking to either of them on a lead, one of them should at least have been able to clunk a grab if they had truly wanted to attack the ball.

We had zero. Zero contested marks inside F50.

That's like going an entire game without your ruckman winning a hitout.

Walsh just casually having more contested possessions than the crouch brothers combined..
He's a star but still not that special according to Kornes while blowing smoke up Rozee's arse. The Crouches have now established themselves as stat-padding crabs. I'd offer them but it's not like you need them with Cripps and Walsh patrolling the middle.

The ironic thing is that in one facet of our club, we are elite. Our AFLW team set new standards in how the game should be played. They turned a reasonable defender into the league leading goal kicker, lost the no 1 ruck just before the season but didn't blink, and blooded a string of young players - some of whom were crucial players by year end. We were also prepared to make tough, if unpopular calls, such as sacking a premiership coach.

Yet our men's team has barely suffered an injury (Doedee excepted), had a cruisey draw, and churned out a string of listless, unaccountable performances. We have made Carlton look awesome, gave Brad Scott his last win, folded against Essendon's B team, and nothing changes. We've put in one reasonable away performance since the 2017 GF (Sydney away last year) and mailed it in time and time again.

Yet who here has any confidence that there is an appetite to change things at West Lakes?

Agree (he has been way better than Rozee this season and will easily win the Rising Star), but you could have another Walsh in Rowell/Anderson next year.....I think we are still a sneaky chance to get Pick 2 (you guys might have left sacking Bolton a tad too late?).
