The inconsistency of the umpires is a frustration as well as the AFL. The umpires are human and make mistakes obviously but they are mistakes that can cost you a game. The Bont one which resulted in a goal would be called HTB a lot of the time surely? He took on a tackler who he beat, and then dropped the ball during the 2nd tackle is the way i saw it.
Not under current "interpretations."

Knocked out in the tackle, play on. We had a few today too.

Have a uncle that follows Carlton so I hate that club with a passion wander how Adam Saad loves the loser culture over their
i'd like to say i'm the bigger man and there is no touch of schadenfreude here.....
but i'm not, and there is.
Hope the Lions go out in the finals without a win as well

Gia would of had inside information on how to play us and it worked I would rather you guys in the finals then SHiTMOND
I think the way he showed Peter Weight how to kick 7 goals was pure genius.

I did see Merrett get away with one. Just feel like sometimes they pay it and sometimes they dont
It's all due to "interpretation."

Previously it was HTB, black/white clear cut. Now... grey area. Coz, ya know, that's what the rules needs.

Amazing win. Making finals would be a good experience for this young team, and if we can beat the top team with half-a-dozen best 22 players out we can beat anybody.

But Devon Smith seriously needs to go. Could tolerate his selfishness when he was a good player, but now that he's bog average (at best) he's a liability.

Much rather a win like that over a higher draft pick. This belief will do far more for the young group
That's why I'd be happier losing first week of finals than missing altogether. Exposure to the level we need to play. Let's get used to it. We can go with the best teams on our day.

bit of a weird performance in that none of the stars had games that would be even in their top 5 this season, and some guys like Hind and Ridley were even disappointing today. in addition to Wright and Francis, Cutler, Clarke & Snelling were the surprising ones to me

It's an automatic free-kick the moment you're caught bouncing the ball as it's the rare occasion that a player is literally dropping the ball. The tackle happened before the whistle. Why Cox took a bounce is beyond me

And since I've dragged myself into it. First Bont free-kick was correct, no prior opportunity and then ball knocked out of the tackle, initially I thought Shiel was unlucky as I thought he had no way of knowing the ball was gone, but he knocked it out of Bont's arms, so. Second Bont free-kick also correct, ended up a being a sling tackle and Bont's head hit the ground. Historically umpires have been very lax in calling these tackles, to the point that we've seen it paid as HTB and then the player gets suspended 2 days later, so Redmond is a bit unlucky, but it was there.

God I already regret that. I'm leaving for the Dylan Clarke thread

Dude. Your takes on umpiring free kicks are consistently wrong, deliberately contrarion and just plain tiring. I would bother to pick apart your points, but since you opted to let my response last time go through to the keeper, I won’t bother again. But seriously, enough with the groan-worthy trying-to-be-different persona. You think the average fan doesn’t understand the rules but the irony is it’s you who doesn’t interpret them properly.

Shout out to the defence. Yeah Dogs missed some sitters but considering Dogs 60 inside 50s did a terrific job. Laverde and Ridley with 17 intercepts between them

I thought we had absolutely ZERO chance pre-game so these wins are often the best and tonight is no exception.

Given the fixture of the teams around us in the next two weeks (compared with ours), we NEED to play with that same intensity over the next fortnight and the most unlikely finals appearance in the history of our club will occur. From there we know what the script has looked like in the past but we've got to at least give ourselves the opportunity.

We do what we did today against the Suns and Pies (at any ground) and it's all over for them.

We are the sort of side that will throw away all the good work of today with a loss to the Suns next week. Don't DO it.
