Rnd 3 Changes vs GWS

Resting players after 2 rounds, what nonsense.

Resting, rotating, whatever. The fact remains that Cox, Embley and Kerr aren't required against GWS. So whether dumping Cox, Embley and Kerr for this one game is named "resting" or "rotating" is trivial. Reasons other than resting have been provided.
At some point WC should play the guys bordering on the best 22. GWS is an excellent, risk-free, opportunity to get a game into these players.

WC shouldn't simply wait till players desperately need to be rested before they provide them with such. It may only be round 3, but players have been through months of strenuous pre-season training and NAB games. Being fresh at the start of the season is relative. It isn't a given just because it's the start of the regular season.

Looked like Rosa received a corky, plus Embers with the shoulder.

Outs: Embley, Rosa
Ins: Sheppard, Stevens.

Sheppard to Sub, can play both ends and had speed to play on the wing.
No one needs resting yet.

All depends on what team we want v the Hawks.

Embely will be out, simply no need to risk playing injured players and we need to get him right for later in the season.

McGinnity and Butler I would play next week simply to get them a game prior to the Hawks and players who are match hardened. If Rosa has a corke get him right, he came of a limited preseason and blitzed round 1. Maybe give Kerr the week off, we know this guy can come in after missing a week and play well.

Stevens is another who may get a run against GWS.

Glass out for Brown may be another option.

Its all about getting the squad as well prepared for round 4 v Hawks.

It's more about the flight to and from Sydney, and the injury risk that's inherent in all AFL matches.

We keep complaining about how our WA players have shorter careers and it's such a long season with at least 10 trips east.

The MC should consider what is best for the game against Hawthorn R4, and if this means keeping Kerr and Cox from a road trip (lower oxygen tension during the flight means slightly poorer recovery/need for longer time to recover), then they should do it (given the game against GWS should be a lock).

Do you mean Lewis Stevenson or Koby Stevens ?

Lewis Stevensn has been much more impressive and deserves his chance, more than Koby does at this stage.

I meant Stevens at the time. While I certainly agree with that LS deserves it more (I'm a big fan), I considered Stevens more suitable as a replacement position-wise. Stevenson, while he can play on a wing, has been developed primarily as a defender it seems.

I'd still be happy for Lewis to come in.

Out: Smith, Embley
In: Mcginnity/Butler, Swift/Newman/Stevens

Smith wasn't bad, but identifiable as our worse (or at least bottom 3) two weeks in a row. Won't make too much noise if he stays though.

Embers if he's fit but if not bring someone in, even if its as the sub. Hammer played excellently, should get the 21.

Out: Smith, Embley
In: Brennan, Stevenson

Anyone else notice Waters spending some time at HF? I know people have been calling for it for a long time on here. Could be a sign that Worsfold and co know how many options we have for HBF's.

I would love to see Brennan get a game this weekend.

Out: Smith , Embley (inj)
In: Brennan , Sheppard

Same here with Smith. Not sure he has proved enough in the last 2 games. If they'd been close or we lost one/both people would be calling for his head. It's easy to gloss over average performances when we win by so much.

I'd love to give Butler a run.

Oh great the usual half-wits are out in force saying that Smith should lose his spot. For what exactly? Does he have to be in our best 5 to retain his spot now? Or are you just Butler nuthuggers?

Uh yeah mate, there's enough of us on here that it can't be all made up. Speaking only for myself, as I said in the post you quoted, I don't think he was bad but I think Butler/McGinnity would be an improvement. At the same time, if he keeps his spot I won't complain too much. Was better today than he was against the Dogs, so I'd be fine with it. I don't think it comes down to being Sam Butler fanboys to want to improve on things, and Smith has been at least in our bottom 5 each week. When we're so deep at half backs, I don't see how it hurts to give other blokes a run. But again, if he stays I won't care.

Apologies if my sheer love for Butler and all his perfection renders my opinion void.

Id give glass the week off. I cant see there being a match up for him and he played an amazing game today, throwing himself in when we were 100 points up. Looked sore after the game and can freshen him up for big game against the hawks

Still not convinced about Smith. Wouldn't mind too much if he still plays though. In fact a game against a team like GWS might be good for him. That being said though, I wouldn't mind seeing Mcginnity in his place.

One things for sure though. Hams needs to start on the ground. We need his crumbing up forward.

Can't see embley getting fit so i doubt he'll be a starter

Kerr won't play every game this year and we need him for the better sides so give him a rest and give someone like Stevens an opportunity

GWS don't have a forwardline and if their game against Sydney is any indication they are far more interested in stemming goals than creating them so give glass a rest as well. Give Brennan a run instead

Would also consider resting cox and giving Lycett another taste

Wouldn't mind seeing Stevenson come in for Embers. Depending on the health of his shoulder. Smithy has done enough to keep his spot for now. But Butler is breathing down his neck for a spot.

Maybe Stevenson as sub in for Embley.

Apart from that just rest a couple maybe if the coaches think it's best. McGinnity next cab off the rank if they rest Kerr. But if they decide not to rest any then team like this:

Schofield Glass A. Selwood
Hurn Mackenzie Waters
Rosa Priddis Gaff
Darling Lynch Shuey
Hams Kennedy Hill

Cox S. Selwood Kerr

Naitanui Masten Smith
Stevenson

Butler McGinnity Weedon

I really like this post.:thumbsu:

Stevens for Embers. Embers needs to let the joint heal and rest. It would be foolish to playing him next week IMO.

Would prefer Stevens as sub. Hams is too useful a crumber in our tall forward line.
The only thing that will fix that joint is surgery unfortunately. An extra week will make zero difference.

Would like to see Butler back, just a big fan of him. Stevenson or Brennan are the others, or even Sheppard.

If Embley and Kerr have niggling injuries then they could be rested; we'll need them both on deck for games against the better sides latter in the season. Much as I would like to rest Cox to keep him fresh for later in the season Rnd 3 might be a bit early to be doing this.

I think Adam Selwood has played quite well in the first 2 games of the season, but he is another player who has given his body a hammering playing for the club and could benefit from a rest. He also copped a good hit again on the weekend.
Worsfold indicated before the season started he would keeping players fresh, personally I think we have the depth to do it, not only against GWS but against most sides.

I think we have to take into account that Claremont play Monday which will probably rule out Stevenson, mcginity, neates, swift and who ever else plays for them. Give Brennan a run for glass. No embers so bring in shep. Did anyone else notice shuey limp off late in the game?

We need to rest/manage a few of the older players and we need to keep developing our depth.

Out: Cox, Glass, Kerr, Embley

In: Lycett, Brennan, Stevens, Mcginnity

Exactly what I was thinking. Protect the old guys and give some games to the young guys incase we need them later in the season.

If they pull out McGinnity/ Stevenson from tomorrows game we will know the MC is thinking the same way.
