A bit of an understatement when describing a side that has lost the clearances count by >20 the last two weeks against objectively poor teams
I genuinely think TT + Hopper + Dow + Kmac1 etc. is the worst centre combo in the modern era. Like yes they're losing clearance differential by 20 a game, but also that's their strength. Stoppages are their 1-wood. They're even worse on the outside, as they're all slow and can't kick and turn the ball over a lot. Our entire strategy out of D50 is to basically go around them, Banks and Brown distributing out to players like HRS, Ross and Mansell.

So when people see Essendon recorded it's highest clearance differential ever last week, keep in mind their midfield isn't good and our midfield is soley built around winning clearances. We didn't even beat the Eagles in clearances and they've been breaking league records for being bad at clearance work this year. At least they have outside players (including Baker and Graham).

Just looking at stoppage work alone we're one of the worst ever statistically (and would be far worse again without Nank), and while it's harder to statistically measure how good a midfield is on the outside we're definitely even worse there than on the inside.

The reason I'm annoyed at Sonsie not getting a proper running through the centre is not because I'm confident he'll be great, but because it's currently the worst centre ever assembled and aging to boot.

Why isn't he needed in the VFL?
We are 8th vs GWS 4th. We want to do what we can to get the VFL side pushing for finals.

Balta is also 25yo, we want him playing regular footy.
Had a good win without him,
Blight, Kosi Fawcett, Le fau etc etc is enough height I'd rather see if Fawcett, Gray, Blight get a contract than have Balta IN and OUT of 2 sides.

Blight and Gray both had great games. Balta isn't needed in the VFL
Hes not above VFL. If he can play VFL, he should be. Sends a shit message to the group if hes fit and not playing at either level, plus if hes only playing footy every 2nd week he'll never find or keep form.

Out: Sims, Green, Lalor, Dow, Ryan, MRJ

Absolutely agree with everything you said. And would add that inexperience is not the reason we are losing the midfield contest

Shirking is such a harsh word, I think these days with the soft rules and head high bumps and tackles, a lot of players now look a bit squibby when just being careful not to collide in situations when they a whisker late to a potential clash. seen enough on saturday night to suggest sonsie will be ok in that area not OK Mat Rowell style but OK more Riley West/Luke Bruest/Gryan Miers style (who always look balanced and keep their feet). Can't have 16 crash packing tractors. need some that can hover around the coalface and dart off. KB was the best in the business at it.
He’s slow. If he wants to play midfield he will need to play on ball and kick under pressure.

I’m not hopeful as he pulls out of ground ball contests on the wing.

I thought I had a rant there. And you have dissed it.

Yeah it's pretty obvious we need more pace and the ability to move the ball cleanly in our midfield. until our midfield can at least break even we're going to lose most games. That we have been so competitive with such a poor midfield is pretty good I reckon.

doesn't matter, you still have peeps singing their praises.
Bring up a stat sheet and tell you how great they are.

WE should try TT (since he cant run ) in the forward pocket. Worth the try. ball use by foot shocking.

not sure what to do with hopper, played some ok games, he puts in but too slow. ball use shocking.

Dow, never sure who turns up with him, shown signs.

Kmac is good in the contest, getting old and slower nowadays.

Yep midfield is biggest concern because apart from maybe KMac I don’t think any of the others are what you want in a premiership team. Have currently and have just recruited good defenders but we need to find at least 3-4 quality midfielders. Lalor is one. Any others from his draft year? otherwise have to come from 2025 draft but not sure what the quality is in that draft.

Most importantly Yze came from Melbourne and he seems to favour three midfield bulls. Unfortunately, we don't have three players equivalent to Patraca Oliver and Viney in their prime. In fact, neither do Melbourne anymore. Would love to see a mini bull like Green given a try in there but again this would appear to be too different to Yse's mindset.

Yze has support coaches as well. so not sure id just blame him, not like he brought them to the club.

I'll happily blame them all.

Must say I'm a little miffed our current policy of flogging the guts out of our young players until they sustain a season ending injury then open up a spot for the next bloke
Does it make too much sense to play for 6 or so games have a spell and give a few others a run
Not like the form of any of them is putting a mortgage on a spot
Beginning to piss me orf if I'm honest
Not very impressed with the F50 tank either
If we play a front end v Sydney like we did v Ess
I for one won't bother turning up
That spells TANK to me not taking an approach to seriously threaten the oppo

Far too much sense.

Just file it next to rewarding strong VFL form and dropping underperforming senior players.

Hasn't happened yet so I'm not holding my breath.

He’s slow.
He's middling at worst. He looks slower than he is in the VFL because he's playing as a workhorse. Would definitely be an injection of pace compared to TT etc.

His main knock isn't pace but he's turned the ball over a lot when playing in the AFL. I think it's a composure / decision-making issue that can be improved (not a skill issue).

You’re changing more than a 1/4 of the side, but it’s hard to disagree with any of those changes.

Whilst not setting the world on fire on Saturday, I think Alger has done enough to earn a crack, certainly ahead of Green who wasn’t even average last week…

Some pretty handy ins, including some blokes playing some great footy in the twos at the moment.

Essendon v Richmond

9 Nic Martin (ESS)
7 Zach Merrett (ESS)
5 Sam Durham (ESS)
3 Andrew McGrath (ESS)
2 Nathan Broad (RICH)
2 Archie Roberts (ESS)
1 Angus Clarke (ESS)
1 Tim Taranto (RICH)

Didn’t watch the whole video but…

Lalor to miss around 3.

Dow 6-10.

Lynch likely back.

Nank carrying a knee but wanted to play, he’ll be back.

Short still not progressing yet.

Prestia and Young pulled up well.
Should put Dow on inactive list and take a pick. See if the recruiters can pluck another Gray level talent from their ass 😁

Yeah I seriously doubt we'd see that many changes but it'd be nice.

Dow's unsigned currently. I think he's earnt another year. We would probably have to sign him up and then rule him out for the year to do this. I always like us to participate in the MSD but seems like it's not to be this year.
