Someone asked for it and here it is.
Roger is along Pav our most important player and without him we'd be in even deeper $hit. Very much underrated by media, particularly the Eastern States ones. Should've been AA last year.

Good onya Rog. Hope you'll be a Norm Smith medalist one day. :thumbsu:

Roger is silky smooth and a champion footballer. We have a better back line when he's in it. A few in the media are beginning to recognise this, but he is still very underrated.

If any other "name" player had received a punctured lung in the third quarter of a game and played on they would have been awarded legend status.

Yah great player ;) probably my favourite too. He was a lot of the reason we made the finals in 2003.... sadly he got injured and we didn't return to the finals until he had come back.

Still laugh at the bozo radio commentators that sometimes say "Wow, Hayden sure can play can't he?" like they are reporting something new.

I still can't believe how criminally underrated Roger is by those blinkered fools over east.

If he played for Collingwood he'd be a multiple AA already and the media would constantly be telling us what a superstar he is.

Rodger is an astonishingly gifted footballer and on the few occasions I have heard him speak a humble and charming man. He would be my nomination for vice captain.

I was hoping Memories would start this thread, but thanks Mad Mac. Now we just need one for Grover so he doesn't feel left out (who's his buddy??). ;)

They say a picture is worth a thousand words, and I think in Hayden's case, they are certainly not wrong. Words can't begin to describe the magic he weaves on a football field. An extraordinarily talented player and very important to the team. :thumbsu:

As I said on the McPharlin thread, we are very lucky in that the different skills that our three key defenders bring to the backline work so well together. I'd love to see O'Brien and Drum spend some time learning with these three for the rest of the season.

My favourite player by a mile. And although not as good a player as Pav, I am of the belief he is our team's most important player.

Would love to see the difference in win ratios when he is playing and when he is out. I don't think we can win long stretches of games without him.

Well, I expressed my feelings on another topic regarding vice-captaincy and believe strongly that Roger's the man. Certainly more desreving than J Carr.

I had a quick look yesterday after some comments in the 'Luke McPharlin is appreciated but gets nowhere near as much man love around here as Roger Hayden' thread. Since 2004 we have 5 wins and 9 losses without Pharlap in the team. In the same time period we have 8 wins and 11 losses in games when Roger hasn't played.

Which is a 36% chance of winning without Luke and a 42% chance of winning without Rog. As yet I haven't run the numbers but I reckon we have exactly ____ all chance of winning if neither of them play.

For what it's worth they both make my 'automatic selection all-stars' line-up.

Starting 5
Pavlich, Sandilands, McPharlin, Hase and Hayden

Bench
Bell, Grover, Farmer

(Note- For Luke's career starting in 2000 we are 37 wins and 36 losses when he's out. Whilst for Hayden's career starting in 2002 we are 16 wins and 22 losses when he's out.)

Well there you go.

Thanks for those stats. :):thumbsu:

Is there any overlap when both Pharlap and Hayden are out?

Also Roger broke his leg round 21 2004, we lost round 22 that year, lost 11 games the next year and lost the first game of 2006, all without roger. Thats at least 13, I didn't see how many games he missed in 2006, but we eased him back into the team and "surprisingly" started to hit form when he did.

all class is roger the artful dodger.

cannot begin to describe how annoyed I was with comentators bagging him for being unfit when he was running around with a punctured lung!

Probably, I couldn't be ____ed looking it up though, feel free to make yourself useful.

You are correct though, given Hayden didn't play at all during 2005 there were no stats shown and I overlooked that year. It wasn't something i spent much time on to be honest, so a mistake doesn't surprise me.

Fremantle went 11-11 in 2005 so Rog's career total becomes 27-33 and we're 19-22 since 2004 without him. Nice work Memories your pick up has made him look less influencial...

Another note, I started from the year they made their debut not the game they made their debut, so career totals are a little misleading. That's why i also used stats from 2004. McPharlin was already established, and Hayden had been in the side for 2 years and was playing regularly. Thought it made the playing field more even.

Roger the Dodger is my favourite player as well. When they look in trouble bringing the ball out everyone around me is like, "for the love of god, just give it Roger and let him sort it out". I have visions of him kicking the goal of the century where he takes the ball in the defensive 50 and takes the ball the length of the field all by himself, dodging about 15 players in the process. The Wizard would assist with a few one-two's once Roger got closer to goal.

His career must have been in serious limbo with that shocking leg injury keeping him out for so long. Tremendous character to persevere through that. My favourite game of his goes way back to a derby where he absolutely destroyed that annoying little runt Phil Matera.

He broke his leg in the WAFL?

Yeah i remember looking at him on the list and going "geez he'll never get back, another koops" but he proved me wrong :)
No. It was very late in the season. Last or second last game I think.

In the pocket near the players races in a pack.

I wonder if you sit near me? Every time we are in trouble in defense I yell something like, 'OH ROGER WILL SORT IT OUT' or 'OH ROGER, TAKE ME TO THE SCHOOL DANCE' or 'OH ROGER, GO DOWN ON ME IN A PUBLIC SWIMMING POOL'

i thought he broke his leg in our first ever final, against the bombers

Fletcher tried to break his head open and Roger was still able to get up and take his kick. That was an early indication of his toughness, because it was a hit that would have put a lot of players on a stretcher.
