Weird to criticise Naitanui today.
Was the only West Coast player who gave a damn and won his position and he won it convincingly.
Had 10 clearances and Grundy legitimately was non-competitive against him in the ruck in the 2nd half.
It's not like Grundy is a pushover either.

lol. what are you talking about? Grundy was named 4th in Collingwoods best players. He was better than Naitanui. You mention the 2nd half...you know the game was over at half time yeah? lol. This just shows your complete bias. And then you have the nerve to say that Naitanui won it convincingly. lol

By the AFL website? Well I suppose I will defer to their accurate opinion. Although they did rate Gaff, Sheed and McGovern's games (and they were all beyond abysmal).
I suppose if you ignored the actual tapwork (which Grundy was non-competitive against Naitanui for all but the first 10 minutes of the game) and clearances (which Naitanui dominating) then maybe Grundy won. But the thing is, a ruckman shouldn't be adjudged on the output of an outside winger.

May hasn't had that many goals kicked on him in months, let alone back to back weeks.

But it isn’t all about goals. Weitering was brilliant last night. Will get votes.
May is a freak. May and Weitering are the two key backs unless something weird happens in the last few weeks.

lets go by coaches votes i reckon. how can you be uncompetitive when he only had 6 less hitouts lol.

Are we not going to mention the 10 marks around the ground and the 6 tackles compared to Naitanui's 2 and 0? Or it doesn't suit your argument?

A convincing naitanui win. LOL

If we go by coaches votes Naitanui has been the best ruck in the league.

What do people think about Merrett. Gets lots of the ball. Works hard. Uses it well. Squad of 40 or team of 22?
Had a cracking year. Would be in the 40

Carlton fans should be really excited about McKay I think he’s got a huge future ahead of him but if I was coaching him I’d be inclined to show him a lot of footage of players like Hawkins or maybe a Jack Darling who regularly has 15-ish touches and makes an impact beyond just hitting the board
He’s literally been our only talk forward most of this year. Casboult is crippled and McGovern and Curnow have been injured for the most part.

His game will grow in time but we have needed him to be a focal point up forward and he has delivered most weeks.

Deserves AA

so do you agree with Eaglespremiers that naitanui was convincingly better?

Because on the neutral board most people agree that Grundy smashed him around the ground.

Naitanui had 9 HOs to advantage vs Grundy's 4.
Naitanui had 10 clearances to Grundy's 4.
Naitanui had 10 contested possessions to Grundy's 7.
They both had the same amount of score involvements, inside 50s, intercept possessions and metres gained (173m).
Amazingly Naitanui actually had a goal assist (the Yeo goal from a HO to advantage), Grundy did not.
I will maintain I don't give two hoots about total marks. I don't value ruckmen as link up players. This is a tertiary role for them and doesn't make up if they are deficient and beaten in their primary role (as Grundy was today).

Yeah that’s fair. Do you think that will change when curnow is healthy or do you think curnow will play a bit further from goal and leave McKay as he is at the moment

If Bailey Dale isn't in your 22 you haven't been watching footy

It’s still a question mark whether Curnow will be able to become a good player again. He was definitely more mobile and a greater athlete than McKay so I think the ideal role for McKay is what he’s doing now. Needs to improve his field kicking and decision making though

How do I take you seriously when you spit all these stats and say 'Naitanui had a goal assist, Grundy did not'. And yet not even mention that Grundy kicked a goal, and Naitanui did not. It literally just shows that you're cherry picking stats and avoiding stats that show that Grundy played well. Lets not mention the tackles, the marks or the goals. Lol. Reply with an explanation as to why you mentioned goal assists yet not the goal.

You're so biased you're completely blind.

Stop peddling a false narrative.
You had already mentioned Grundy's marks, tackles and goal in previous posts. I'm not going to repeat them.
And goals are still important for a ruckman, so I'm not going to disparage Grundy's contribution in that regard.
Everybody values a different set of stats for a role, you are just emphasizing the wrong ones.
I don't care how many marks Grundy had. A ruckman's value is not as a link man. If he is to play that role in a particular team, so be it. But it typically minimises his output to a winger/flanker (and I don't really care how many marks a winger/flanker has either) compared to his principal role at the stoppages.
