And Papley had 17 top quality games?
As a small forward yes. Good reason we are where we are. They aren’t competing for the same spot.

And Papley had 17 top quality games?
It's not picking a team for a Grand Final. It's picking a team based on the 22 game season. If I am picking a team tomorrow for a GF, I know who I will pick and is not even a debate. Get your head out of your ar.se
Fair point, that's pretty hard to argue with. Totals are definitely more a relevant metric than averages.Tom Papley: 41 goals and 21 assists
Jake Stringer: 39 goals and 13 assists
Papley deserved his spot. He had more goals and assists than any other small/medium forward.

It's like people think this team is selected to play a game.[
There was two rucks last year, and the year before, and the year before that...
You mean the same dusty who has been snubbed from the team more than once try againPapley ahead of Stringer is an absolute farce. If his name was Dusty he’d have been first picked.
Papley kicked more goals, took more marks.
I read recently he had the most goal assists too.
Him and Greene were absolute locks and deserved their spots.
Stinger had a good second half of the year but had a slow start to the year which cost him a spot, the other two where better overall.
Give me a break. Franklin is one of the best captains the Swans and Hawks have had.Bring up AA captains Franklin and Fyfe and we will melt.
Yes, because he was much better. Probably should've been starting ruck but that's splitting hairs with Gawn really.Naitanui over Darcy...
Watch a game of steeles and you will realise st kilda would not have one many of them games without him. Best two way mid in the game. Kicks goals. Aggressive. Unselfish.Steele is a accumulator, Stringer wins matches
Based on the stats Jake has had this season there is no doubt Martin would be in - no doubt whatsoever. You mean the same dusty who has been snubbed from the team more than once try again
What did he do?Neither deserved AA tbh. Besides clearances and a few flashy taps, what does Nic Nat actually do? A second ruck in a hypothetical team should be able to go forward but that's never been in Nic's repertoire.
Surely GWS had some other high performing players aside from Greene?I don't even live in Victoria, but sure let's go through it.
Who apart from NN makes it from West Coast?
Who makes it from Freo? If it's Darcy, NN makes way and the numbers remain the same.
Port had two. Amon borderline, but better season than Oliver, Macrae, Bont, Petracca, Miller, Merrett, Parish, Steele? Nope.
Laird is very close, but see above.
Sydney had Papley. Does Buddy make it over Hawkins and McKay in limited games? No. Mills, again didn't outperform the mids listed above, despite having a great year.
GWS - who makes it?
Brisbane had Rich. I would've had Cameron over Papley, but again, negates the interstate number. Andrews was very stiff not to make the squad, but didn't outperform May this season, and had a comparable year to Allir. Again, no change in interstate numbers.
Gold Coast had Miller.
Where would you justify spreading out the team across the states?
Not really. Looks like they squeezed him into the starting side to make him captain. No issue with that as I believe an actual Captain should captain the AA side. If that's the rationale then no issues from me. Splitting hairs between the 2 anyway.Captain Gawn. West Coast board on meltdown alert.
To be fair, if Mills' ability to play in multiple positions was considered, Dawson would have arguably been a better Swans selection. Only because Dawson played more, Mills was probably our best player this season across the matches he actually played. The other question mark is Callum Mills.
Aliir takes the #1 tall from my viewing of him as opposed to Stewart or LeverI'm a huge fan of Tom Papley but I'm not sure he had an All-Oz year.
I also wonder about the make up of the backline. Don't Lever, Stewart and Alir play the same role? I would have left out Alir.
May seems the only one to really play on an opponent?
Not convinced about McCrae or Dale either.
Paplet and Greene where the best small forwards in the game this year.I think they also wanted to reward the Swans and it makes sense to pick a pure forward seeing as they picked two mids on the HFF.
Yes, because he was much better. Probably should've been starting ruck but that's splitting hairs with Gawn really.
Steele is far more than an ‘accumulator’ and absolutely earned his spot in the team.Steele is a accumulator, Stringer wins matches
'lost'? It's not a competition you numpty.hahaha.the games done mate. you lost. sit down brother. The AA panel chose Gawn and chose him as captain. now sit down, open your dictionary and look up the term 'biased',past tense of 'bias' then you will realise why you were wrong![]()
I agree, it didn't really feel like an AA season from Papley. But relative to his competition, it was. Small forwards as a whole weren't as prolific in front of goals as they have been in most recent seasons.I'm a huge fan of Tom Papley but I'm not sure he had an All-Oz year.
You don’t watch a lot of Saints games I take it, Steele is a jet.Steele is a accumulator, Stringer wins matches
