You pick the best performed players over a period of time, or at least give them a chance.

Patterson is one of them, needs to be added to the squad.

Just because he isn’t averaging 50+ dominating for seasons on end seems like a weird excuse not to pick him when literally no one else is doing that and all those picked ahead of him in this match have a lower first class average.

In this time of fewer choices, go the guy in form who is 25.
Renshaw has made as many 100s last year as Patterson has in his career yet he couldn’t get a gig in the UAE or at home.

People argue against Labuschange selection in the UAE saying that his 2017/18 season of 795 runs at 39.75 including 2 100s and 4 50s wasn’t good enough yet Patterson’s 672 at 37.33 with no 100s and 5 50s is? He was back in the que as that’s where his performance warranted it

Adding smith and Warner won’t make this team contenders against the best straight away. Batting is brittle even with them in it. The bowling is is 1 dimensional
Warner averages 50 and Smith 60+. Take out our 2 worst batsmen and replace them with that and our batting is a HELL of a lot better. When they make runs early in the innings it takes pressure off the other guys too.

I think they will play Richardson.

He’s young, he’s a wild card, averages low 20’s with the ball in the shield and was easily our best quick in the ODI, he moves it as well.

He also averages 22 with the bat in the shield, fair chance he bats above Starc and despite our specialized batsmen being shit, would be one of the stronger tails we’ve fielded funnily enough.

It's not a risk to play Jhye, almost of all of the Sri Lankan batsman have never played in Australia before and they'll struggle for the most part against competent bowling. Playing Jhye is a no brainer with Starc's form. You get a look at him and if Starc's awful form continues into the Ashes then you know if you have a credible replacement.

Playing Siddle would be the worst selection of the whole summer which is saying a lot, happy for him to be around the group for an eye to the Ashes but we knew even 3 years ago he was no use anywhere else, why that's apparently changed is very odd.

What the **** is the point of sports science? Hazlewood has been ruled out with his second back injury of the year

Hazlewood, Pattinson, Starc, Cummins etc have all missed time due to back injuries

Bruce Reid broke down every other week without sports science. Same with macdermott.

Saw highlights of Patterson's knock.

Don't you guys think he lacks a bit in feet movement? Especially against the pacers.
Yes he does unfortunately but he is very still and gets his head over the ball. He isn’t a gun but he’s a far better option than half the blokes currently in the side.

Big time. His shots of the backfoot were so far away from his body. Can see him being caught behind alot if there is seam movement. Spinners will also have a field day with him
