Rookie Draft - What do we think ?

glad we took a chance on Dick who is happy to be back in WA and on WCE list .Don`t know much on Papertalk but i think he`s kicked a few bags of 4 and 5 goals for east freo.Tunbridge was taken as a 17yr so would assume he has a lot of ability and Mascoulis been hampered by injury and has slid to the rookie draft but has a lot of upside .

I've been high on Dick for like, forever. He is the crumber we desperately need.

Why am I the only one who sees this?

Go, nympho, go! Like the immovable seagulls on a footy field, crumb for that ground level seed that only Dick can provide.:D

I dont get it . i am excited by Dick ,
why is everyone not liking this move...
i am sure profesional recruiters would
know better than half you **** ****
whether or not he is capable...

^^

Because of Who we passed up to draft Dick . That is manson / Nelson / Bolger / Gilligan , however I think Dick is a good aquisition certainly better then drafting Medhurst at 30 yrs of age .

Listening to Dicks interview and his attitude is outstanding , reckons his last Reconstruction on his knee was in May but needs a clean out in the next few weeks but could be up and running in a month . A quiet year in 2012 for Dick but if all goes well in 2013 he could be handy !

What is interesting across this whole draft by the Eagles is the drafting of players with recent injury history over the past 12 months or, as in Turnbridge's case, lowered their draft rankings / value somewhat.

  1. McInnes sat out the U18 titles with an ankle
  2. Newman had a problem with his hand
  3. M&M - Michael Mascoulis hammie issues, missed U18
  4. Dick - what hasn't broke and then;
  5. Turnbridge - homesick
I see a trend that the club backs itself to get these guys fit and hopes its picked up value here with a few niggles coming at bad times lowering their value.

M&M if he had his body right could have gone 30 > 50.

Moneyball.

I remember reading last year prior to the season that Dick was tearing it up at pies preseason training and was fit enough to play in the midfield. That was said by then assistant coach Scott watters. That IMHO is a huge endorsement, to be capable of fitting into the reigning premiers midfield. I don't see a problem with giving him a shot as it cost us sweet FA and if he can get right then we may have found a line breaking, goal kicking midfielder. If not oh well.

I think Turnbridge and Mascoulis are very good selection and fit certain positions that are short in depth players.

As for papertalk this IMO was a waste of a pick, yeh the kid has shown some ability in colts but I would have preferred a senior option or at least a kid who has played or can play seniors at WAFL level next year. Papertalk won't do that IMO and I don't see him lasting longer then 2 years on our rookie list.

Would have preferred Nelson, Bolger, or even Jo Jo again instead tbh

I like Mascoulis's potential. Great size for a midfielder/winger. Needs to stay uninjured and get consistency in the WAFL. Could be our next Embley if he can get things right.

Really hope we find a Cox like rookie list elite gem, we haven't had one for a while.

After the draft our memberships should go through the roof especially with our female following. After all we have big cox and a new dick

Collingwood had Goldsack, Dick, Cox, Wood and Johnson at one point, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Hey all, as a Pies fan, I thank the Eagles for taking a chance on Brad Dick, you will all grow to love him, he has one of the most infectious personalities, and is just a joy to have at your club.

And he can play, obviously injuries withstanding, but if you look back at some of his highlights, you may have got the bargain of the rookie draft.

Thank You Eagles.:thumbsu:

Nice one - Brad is a favourite of fanatical Cwood in-laws of mine and they were already disappointed we didn't take Leon. Hope he can be injury-free.

Just watched a few higlight video's of dick

Has pace can kick on both sides, can mark and reads the fall of the ball very well.
Yeah, that is there for all to see, even I can see Brad is a great player that has proven himself at AFL level. The flip side of this are his injuries. they are major and numerous.

I just would have done it differently, Id rather take a punt on someone who wasn't as broken as him.

I can tell you that Brad Dick is the best natural crumber I have seen at the Pies in the last 15 years.

I'm just spewing that his body didn't cope with the physical side in the past, but hopefully he can build up a bit.

Can't say i'm happy with Brad Dick to be honest. Everyone is saying "if he stays fit" and "Easily collingwood's best 22" little do they know they he is already UNfit. He can't even train because of his knees. It will be months before he can even run, let alone train at full intensity, this year is basically a right off year for him to get his body right. Which i think sucks, a whole year down the toilet. As for him being in collingwoods best 22... he was supposedly 'tearing it up' and all that but he got injured in the VFL after all. And this was into the 2011 season, so.... how could he possibly of been in there best 22 if he had already gone hard during pre season and was STILL playing VFL? Not best 22.

In saying all that jazz ^^ he was our LAST pick in the rookie draft and probably costs us 50k a year. So despite having other options still to choose from, west coast obviously noticed that there is a bigger upside then a downside to him if things don't work out.

Best of luck

The doctors are happy with him, and considering the work they've had to put into Kerr, Nicoski, Butler and Waters over the years I reckon they have a pretty good idea of who is capable of making it back to AFL footy.
