Sugars is fairly tall, not a huge fan but is talented.

Here's hoping we take Elliot with our last pick...Port...stay away!

EDIT - GOT ELLIOTT!

Sugars, Redden, Bonnadio and Elliot. Pretty good crop there, good spread of different type of players. Best of luck to all of them.

I'm stoked with Elliott and Redden. The other 2 I don't really know much about. I was initially disappointed we didn't take Logan in the PS but considering Port only took him with their 4th rookie pick, they didn't rate him that highly either.

It sounds like we have 3 genuine footballers in Elliott, Porp and Redden, a monster in Bona ( sounds like Willetts MK2 ) and an unknown in Sugars.

All in all, i'm excited with the direction the AFC's recruitment is taking.

Adrian Bonaddio
Details:
Club: Oakleigh Chargers/Port Melbourne VFL
DOB: 26 May 1986 Hgt: 195cm Wgt: 96kg
Position: Forward
Honours:
State Screening 2005
Background:
Former Oakleigh Chargers player (2003-2004) who missed being drafted last year. Joined Port Melbourne this year. Played in the VFLs North v South Under 23 match in May and kicked 5 goals. Won the Borough Reserves coaches award this year, but did make the odd appearance in their senior side.
Strengths:
- Strong mark
Weaknesses:
- Physical attributes: slow, not agile and hasn’t great endurance
- Kicking is inconsistent
Footy Draft verdict:
A rookie chance only.

Brad Sugars
Details:
Club: Glenelg
DOB: 13 March 1987 Hgt: 188cm Wgt: 77kg
Position: Half Forward Flank
Natural Foot: Right
Honours:
South Australia 2004
State Screening Camp 2004
Strengths: Sugars is a strong marking forward from Glenelg. He can also be used in defence but looks more comfortable up forward.
Brad is very good in a contested situation and has clean hands. He also represented SA in the carnival this year. Born in March 87, he has plenty of scope to improve.
Weaknesses: Struggled to have an impact in the carnival, and is probably more of a 3rd forward than a key position at this stage.
Footydraft.com comment: Showed a couple of good signs in the warm-up games for SA, but probably needs another year at underage level.

Thomas Redden
Details:
Club: Sacred Heart/Glenelg
DOB: 18 June 1987 Hgt: 191cm Wgt: 74kg
Position: Key Position/Onballer
Natural Foot: Right
Honours:
National Draft Camp 2004
SA U18 Rep 2005
SA State Screening 2005
Statistics:
2005 Under 18 Championships: 3 games, 2 goals, average 15.0 PPG
Background:
Redden was well and truly under the radar during 2004, having received a draft camp invite despite spending most of the year playing school football for Sacred Heart and not playing for SA in the U18 National Championships of that year. He was given an exemption into the 2004 draft as his date of birth was after the AFL’s adjusted age cut off limit but was subsequently overlooked by the AFL clubs.
So the tall utility is in the mix once again this year – this time with a National Championships appearance beside his honour list. His form during that week was indifferent – he started his games well but went missing after half time and his ability to run out games could be a concern.
Played much of this season for Glenelg in the SANFL reserves.
Strengths:
- very hard at it/inside player/will scrap for ball at ground level
- Versatile player
- Evasive/will raise the arms to avoid tackles etc
Weaknesses:
- Light frame: needs to build up for AFL
- Skills disappointed at times during the championships
- Second half fade outs in the carnival?
- Went into 2004 draft on a good note having been outstanding with his school footy, but has his 2005 answered the questions that clubs wanted answered?
Footy Draft verdict:
Can’t see him going any earlier than the third round. Sometimes the players with hype as bottom agers who are overlooked don’t come under consideration the following year and Redden could be one of those at the worst case scenario

Sam Eliott
Details:
Club: South Adelaide
DOB: 22 July 1987 Hgt: 181cm Wgt: 74kg
Position: Midfielder
Natural Foot: Right
Honours:
SA U18 representative 2005
AFL Draft Camp 2005
Statistics:
2005 Under 18 Championships: 3 games, 1 goal, 16.3 PPG
Draft Camp:
20m sprint: 2.94 sec (equal 8th)
Background:
A leader of his school footy team, Sacred Heart in South Australia, Elliott represented South Australia in this year’s championships. A genuine footballer, Elliott impressed with is work around the stoppages during the carnival.
He also performed well in the 20m sprint at draft camp, but his 3km time and beep test results were affected by injury, as was some of his season
Strengths:
- very good in close, real inside player, good at stoppages (in particular during championships)
- can get boot to ball quickly
Weaknesses:
- Injuries
- Height
Footy Draft verdict:
Worthy of a chance at an AFL club, but moreso with a later pick in the draft.

I am absolutely bloody spewing with the drafts! Is it me or is everyone trying to screw with us?
Firstly Hurn slips and slips only to be snapped up just when we think we might have a show. Then Varcoe goes the pick before us! (By Geelong the bastards)
I've been telling everyone for two years to pick up Rischbieth or Port will and what happens?? We will regret this!
And Grima (Geelong again) and Bode were also taken!
Am I wrapped with Porpoise, Sugars, Redden, Elliot (the only choice I like) and Bonaddio?
NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Not happy Jan!

Very happy with the Rookie Selections..........

Especially Elliot. Would have loved to be able to had the chance to grab Grima. I thought we would've snapped up Tom Logan with our first selection seeing that Port didn't take him. We must not have been that interested in him then.

I am an expert and know everything about the players we picked up. Let me clue you in.

Adrian Bonaddio is a forward from the Oakleigh Chargers/Port Melbourne VFL. He is about 195 cm and weighs 96 kg. His strength is that he is a strong mark but he is quite slow, lacks agility and endurance and his kicking needs some work.

Brad Sugars is a great third option forward who is about 188 cm and weighs 77 kg. While his preference is up forward he can also be used in defence. He doesn't mind contested situations and has clean hands. Still young he has plenty of improvement left.

Thomas Redden is a tallish midfielder but with a very light frame. He spent most of his time with the Glenelg reserves. He is a very hard at it and versatile player and has a knack for avoiding tackles. His weakness is his light frame and has a tendency to fade as the game wears on.

Sam Eliott is another midfielder from South Adelaide. He is very good in close and at stoppages and can boot to ball very quickly. However, he is injury prone and lacks height.

Told you I was an expert.

Firstly, noone is trying to screw with us. Everyone is out trying to get the best player for their side. Simple.

Secondly, think about it logically, if Rischbeith was so good, why was he overlooked in the ND and PSD ? You seem to have some inside information that 16 recruiting teams dont have ? Please share.

You wouldnt believe it, but I think footydraft.com has almost the same opinion of these players as you do ;) :thumbsu:

Sugars tested pretty slow over the 20M in state screening. That could be a problem for medium sized forward (mind u we picked up one who can't kick straight, but we like those ... ;) ).

The question I wanted to ask is, would you have preferred Porplyzia or Grima?

Grima, as I believe Porpy would have been there at our first pick in the rookie draft.
