Heard that Bonaddio is the ‘most uncoordinated’ bloke ever seen on a footy field.

Sugars tested pretty slow over the 20M in state screening. That could be a problem for medium sized forward (mind u we picked up one who can't kick straight, but we like those ... ;) ).

The question I wanted to ask is, would you have preferred Porplyzia or Grima?

Shouldn't you be more worried about the go home factor than Sugars speed. You now have 13 players, under 25, ( 15 if you include NT boys in Logan and Motlop ) who are non-SA lads. That seems to be unusually high.

As for your question Fordie, Grima for me by a mile.

interesting fact, elliott, redden, sugars, porps all from SHC... :D

sugars may not be very quick off 20m but won most of glenelgs seniors runing as well as beap tests, etc.. very very fit.. i think would be more suited to playing across half forward and patrolling up the ground

elliott had a big year in 2004 and injuries hurt him in 2005.. like redden, evades takles in packs very well and has silky skills.. descent rehab and he will be an asset

redden is not the quickest midfielder, but at 190cm or there abouts, his agility is wat wins him the ball.. very very strong over head and this will only imporve with weights.. can rush kicks but is a very talented player IMO and has the potential to be a great player

porp had a great year and deserves the chance.. dont know about the other one

I'm stoked with Redden. I had him in my 4 rookie wants. Can anyone provide any info. on Sugars?

Springy, Sugras is your typical third tall option. Was pretty dominant at schoolboy level, great set of hands and good kick for goal but I'm guessing basically the only reason he was overlooked is because he is not 192-193cm key forward. Very much in the mould of Welsh.

Has kicked bags of 5 for Glenelg reserves on several occassions. Pretty good pick-up consdering its just the rookie draft.

BTW, what's our obsession with Glenelg rookies?

Comments:

Sugars: Great, ANOTHER 3rd tall option. When are we going to draft someone capable of being that 1st or 2nd tall option we've been crying out for?

Bonaddio: Has anyone found a positive comment on him in any player profile? Slow and not agile. Well, at least he's supposedly a good mark. Maybe there's something all the profilers have missed, they did draft him before Sam Elliott after all.

Redden: Is this kid related to Mick Redden - former North Adelaide ruckman?

Elliott: I like what I've read about this kid, will be interesting to see what he can do once he overcomes his injuries.

Good to see Bonaddio drafted. Capable player, who when he settles into his body will be a very handy footballer.

Was expecting him to play evey game in the ones at Port Melbourne... Good luck to him over there in the SANFL.

Strong mark, and his kicking improved as the season went on in 2005. Some people I stand with thought he looked like a very young Corey Mckernan.. doesnt look a natural footballer but is talented.

Thanks for that. With all the bad profiles on him, I knew there had to be SOME reason why the AFC drafted him. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how he develops. Here's hoping he turns into something good.

I am an expert and know everything about the players we picked up. Let me clue you in.

Adrian Bonaddio is a forward from the Oakleigh Chargers/Port Melbourne VFL. He is about 195 cm and weighs 96 kg. His strength is that he is a strong mark but he is quite slow, lacks agility and endurance and his kicking needs some work.

Brad Sugars is a great third option forward who is about 188 cm and weighs 77 kg. While his preference is up forward he can also be used in defence. He doesn't mind contested situations and has clean hands. Still young he has plenty of improvement left.

Thomas Redden is a tallish midfielder but with a very light frame. He spent most of his time with the Glenelg reserves. He is a very hard at it and versatile player and has a knack for avoiding tackles. His weakness is his light frame and has a tendency to fade as the game wears on.

Sam Eliott is another midfielder from South Adelaide. He is very good in close and at stoppages and can boot to ball very quickly. However, he is injury prone and lacks height.

Told you I was an expert.
quality as always jmorg1.

overall i have no idea who was drafted, but am kind of disappointed we missed out on the 'named' talents, but really who knows how they'll turn out. I hope with the PSD that we picked who we wanted to as well, considering we allowed ourselves a late pick. Still think as with last yr, going purely on the 'hype' that we could of done with a extra 1-2 picks in the draft going by some of the talent on offer. Really no need to have massie for instance on the list.

lets hope today was as successful as a few years ago when we got mattner, bock and rutten in the rookie draft

I thought Redden looked like one of the most unco footballers ive seen at the championships. He is stick thin, doesnt have great skills and doesnt really have a set position. Im surprised you like him so much SpringChoke...have you seen him play? Watched him closely at the Champs as he was talked up heaps last year and early this year but after watching him three times during the year all I thought was 'what was the fuss about?'.

Elliot is a top get, will be another Crow rookie star I think.

Sugars had a pretty good carnival and is a Che C-C type marking small forward, I thought he looked pretty athletic at the carnival but his state screen results were terrible apparently.

The other guys picture was in the paper last week I think...looked like a big unit. Dunno much about him tho.

ive seen a fair bit of 4 of our 5 picks today...

Porplyzia in the main draft, was quite possibly the best footballer at our school in year 12, had silky smooth skills on both sides of the body and is a very one grab player. as it has been stated didnt have the fitness to be up to AFL level when he left school but has gone back and worked on that and is now ready to make an impact.

Sugars i saw a lot of last year where he played as a forward and in the midfield at SHC, has a good set of hands and is a good kick for goal, is quite athletic and takes quite a few nice marks... will play as a 3rd tall forward or a HFF at AFL level but could build into a midfielder considering he is considerably fit.

Redden impressed me highly last year at SHC, played as a tall midfielder and did very well, hard at it, reasonable skills, very skinny though but they wont stop him i dont think. very bottom age last year, had an exemption into the draft, was a bit dissappointing at times this year when i saw him, was tried as a kpp and from what i saw it didnt work really, possibly a 3rd tall defender or a tall option on maybe a wing or even the ball.

Elliott i rated his 2004 college season highly, injuries ruined him to some extent in 05 and at times probably played injured and this counted against him. is very good in close, some queries on pace even though he finished top 6 in 20m sprint at draft camp. has fairly decent skills but probably needs to tidy them up a bit before becoming an afl player, could turn into a sam mitchell type of player though...

i actually think that draft camp is a bit over rated myself and sometimes recruiters take the tests into account a bit too much, i would rather the club take someone that can actually play the game rather than someone who can sort of play but is an extraordinary athlete...

I haven't seen him play. I'm going on what i've read about him. I like the sounds of the kid.
