There has been talk about wether the AFL is going to get rid of the Rookie list at the end of the year.
I was thinking they should add two extra players to the main list and get rid of the "rookie" list, as its not a real rookie list anyway. They can then add a "supplementary" list to each team. The difference is the players that make up the supplementary list can only come from the home state of the team. It saves players moving interstate for year until they are de-listed.
Supplementry players can only be used in case of long term injuries, however the club still gets first dibs on upgrading them as is currently the case.

how about we have one list with a minimum and no maximum size and a salary cap. if 38 is the minimum and you get injuries stiff shit. if you are terrible and want to try 46 blokes with 10 on min wage then all for it

yep keep it simple. none of this elevation, long term injury, demotion shit.

great idea!

Love it. Its simple and it allows clubs the opportunity to structure their list as best as they can within the limits of the salary cap. I like how the bottom teams will actually get an opportunity to not overpay their average players and instead try out more players and see which ones will work out at AFL level.

Next year Category A rookies can play senior door without having to be upgraded
