What a farce!

This. Basically started out hoping it wasnt true. Then as soon as it was, and it all came out, just wanted to get rid of him for as much cash as possible (you know to pay some of the interest off)....now, just think it is a mess that was unnecessary.

ah bollocks.

Rooney will go in the summer or the year after, both parties would have agreed on the lad's form, there's no chance anyone will sell for anywhere near his worth, Rooney would still feel at least a morsel of gratitude to United and inturn Everton to get a valuation thats approriate.

Rooney going for peanuts would have been a win for LUHG and revealing what the Glazers have turned the club into... Rooney going for 60 million will just keep the Glazers happy.

This is buying time, ala Ronaldo.

Yeh, my thoughts exactly. He will go in the off-season as his position is really untenable I would have thought with the supporters for the most part. At least now United have a better chance of getting reasonable sum for him I guess.

This is good insurance for the club because the last thing we needed was for clubs to wait until he was able to buy out his contract for 5 mill.

Least this way we will get a fee for him that we agree upon and hopefully it does happen in the summer.

Sorry Wayne but you have no love here!

Nobody really comes out of this tawdry episode well.
Ferguson handled himself well. He's come out of it fine, I suppose.

I do agree with others though - he is gone at the end of the season.
1. it's very difficult to complete any sort of decent value transfer in january. for obvious reasons.
2. it allows him to play with less abuse from fans

I don't think this was just a ploy to get more money out of United, I do think that he genuinely has concerns about the state of the United squad now and in the future. And I still think that he thinks his future will be better served elsewhere.

Gut feeling says that he'll leave in the summer and United will get a decent wedge out of it (nowhere near what people are thinking though).

Odds on his comeback game being the derby in a few weeks time?

I would take 50 million squids for him to be honest in the off season to see him go to Madrid/Barca. But maybe in his comeback against City he will be trying to impress his potential next bosses.....Be interesting to see who gets the most crowd derision from the United supporters...City or Rooney.

150,000 pounds a week! Has the world gone mad. No wonder clubs are crippling in debt. That kind of money to any kind of player is just insane.

He is earning 180k actually. They doubled his salary so he can stay untill the end of the season.

So he makes them pay double his wage in United's current financial situation.

Actually it benefits United's financial situation. They now have control once again of his transfer fee and both sides know they won't have to pay the 5 years salary so that is irrelevant. The fact is a fit and focussed Rooney is the best player in England and one of the best in the world. Both sides have an interest in getting him to perform now before he goes to Real in exchange for Benzema and about 20 million in the summer.

Stretford played a blinder.

Everyone missed the Sir Alex conspiracy?

Heres how I think it went down. Alex wanted to buy Mezut Ozil. Went and watched him, told papers he wanted to teabag him etc. Owners refused to cough up the dough. They said if he wasnt gonna be a best 11 player or marketable they werent interested so no dice

Alex noticing the owners like of marketability and noticing Wayne Rooneys contract situation saw a chance to get himself a transfer budget. Pulled Wayne into his office and said "look you want to win, i want to win but the squad isnt as good as Chelseas, we need a transfer budget"

Sir Alex tells Wayne to go on strike until the club cough up some ambition. He agrees and does so. Play it out in the media with all the instruments put in place. Fans begin to get angry and aggressive so Sir Alex pulls a halt to proceedings after the Glazers cough up a little spending money in January for him

Sounds about right huh?

we are all dumber for reading that.

Wasnt my theory just one I saw posted about and it deserves some airplay I think

Question has to be asked. Why did Alex stalk Ozil for so long and not sign him? I dont think Sir Alex has ever publicly made such a move for a player in recent years. IMO Alex isnt getting the transfer funds he wants and even Rooney can see that

Was some talk in the papers of a £30m release clause for Rooney if "certain conditions" aren't met over the course of his contract.

Presume spending on players.
