It's actual enjoyable now. Like a black comedy .... :D

Ha, same here. Freo got the mercenary they went after, now they can live with him. As a team they've gone backwards compared to last year.

I'll be happy for the rest of the weekend now. Regardless of other results.

He is a blight on the game
Disgusting defensive style that Neil Craig would be proud of

YES!!!

He is destroying Fremantle. St KIlda had some great top end talent he wasted. Freo has not got that much.

If you're Travis Cloke watching this, why would you even consider going to Freo? He'd barely get an opportunity to touch the ball

Harvey on the decline, Hamill the same and injury prone, Gehrig I'll give you.

Idmtake the Saints list of a couple of years ago, any day of the week.

Riewoldt, Milne, Kosi, Dal Santo, Hayes, Goddard, Ball, Fisher, Gilbert etc, all in their prime.

Also traded/drafted pretty ordinarily - the Ball thing was disgraceful, Lovett for a first round pick? Constantly picking up mediocre players from other sides.

He was crap.

Hamill was injured quite a lot during that time, he missed both the 2004 and 2005 finals series. Ball, Xavier Clarke, Kosi, Hayes and Maguire all had long term injury problems too.

That's true, we used more of a forward press in 2009 which restricted teams getting it inside their forward 50 and allowed us to keep the ball locked in our forward 50 and do quite a lot of attacking. We didn't actually flood our defensive 50 much at all as the ball didn't go down there much.

The way Freo are playing now is more like we played in 2007 in our first year under Lyon, we played ugly flooding football then too.

True, forgot about the injuries the Saints had. When did Hamill retire?

Lyon still took a team with Baker, Raph Clarke, Kosi, Blake, Jones, Dawson etc - players who aren't that talented but able to do a role well - to 2 GF's. Like many coaches, he's one of the best at one thing (getting players to do their role who will never be the flashy stars) but poor at others. Coaches like Laidley, Harvey etc all have positives but aren't quite all-rounded.

I.e It's shit to watch compared with any actual decent game of footy.
That's your opinion. I love watching contested football... even when the scores are in the low 70's.

You get to see which players really want it.

Comparing it to the Hawks v Eagles is interesting. That was also a pretty poor game except for the intense pressure that both sides sustained all day, pressure about 5 levels above this game.

Your respect for a bloke who doesn't care if he turns folk off the game that pays him as long as he wins is noted. The said, he isn't winning ...

On the Hawks vs. Eagles. Jimmy is right, the conditions played into it, but the main difference between that game and this one is that two teams played well that night. Fremantle are playing so shit right it wouldn't matter what strategies Lyon comes up with.

What? If anything it's the exact opposite. It's the result of a logical mind at work. Minimise the damage, apply a massive counter-attack.

How's that logical mind going?

Lyon's tactics didn't do much to minimise the damage in that 2nd quarter.

Keep going Noah. Your flood got worked out years ago. But keep thinking it's still cutting edge while the good teams cut you to pieces.

Used to really enjoy watching Freo play. Their win in that shoot out vs the Cats a year or so ago at Subi was possibly the best neutral game I've ever seen.

They are borderline unwatchable now under Lyon. So many weapons in this team going to waste. Was knifing Harvey worth it? Where is the payoff coming from?
We have the same talent level as Brisbane. Just coached better.

True, forgot about the injuries the Saints had. When did Hamill retire?

He retired in 2007 but didn't play much after 2004, a chronic knee injury finished his career early. A real shame as he would have made a big difference if he was fit during those years of 2004/05/06 when we were premiership contenders.

We also lost Luke Penny who was a gun key defender we recruited from the Bulldogs, he retired in 2005 due to chronic knee injuries at just 24. He could still be playing for us now.
