You do. I don't have to meet every freo supporter to know that. Just the ones at the football and bigfooty are enough of a sample.

You don't need to meet every pie fan to know about the missing teeth and the stolen cutlery.

If you think otherwise, at least clear out your BF board from the crazies and the nutters from your forum to show sincerity. Your board's mods are complicit in tolerating such idiocy.

Yeh you kind of have to. and no, the handful of regular posters on this little forum don't reflect the tens of thousands of our actual supporter base. Take a statistics class.

Speaking of, he really only needs to meet around 1000 of them to make an informed statistical observation on the entire Fremantle supporter base.

Serious questions to all saints fans.

I can understand your dislike of Ross Lyon on how he left. But lets just say if the saints won one if not both of those flags in 2009 and 2010.

If Ross Lyon left in the end of 2011 and guided the saints to a flag in that 2008-2010 period, would there be less bitterness towards Ross Lyon?

Hell If Ross Lyon guided Freo to the 2013 flag and left 2 years later after serving his contract I wouldn't be bitter. I still wouldn't be bitter if he walked out after the 2015 season after 4 years of finals and that does say a bit about Freos lack of success.

Having not experienced a flag win in my life time, I have no idea how I'd react. But I would not be fond of any coach that walked out leaving our list in the state Ross did. The manner of his exit is not the only reason we're displeased with Ross.

Lyon when coaching st Kilda took it as high as it could since 1997, ie 14-15 years. Tough, it didn't work out.

Now he's gone - I wish him luck for all games except ones against st kilda.

Why be bitter against him?
For the simple reason that he retired players without speaking to them and was negotiating with Freo when we were still in the finals. That does not sit well with me. However I let it all go last round. Go any Victorian side (or side that used to be).

And yet pretty much all the players accept why he left. I hear he was warmly welcomed at Roo's wedding according to BS.

I don't think you really understand the issues here...

Many supporters have to put off starting families and buying a home, all because of what Ross did to us.

Long term unemployment among Saints members has risen to 16.7%.

In fact, some supporters were diagnosed with cancer, which according to tests, was caused by Lyon leaving us in the manner he did.

I know that I have gone completely bald from bitterness and my marriage is a shambles... all because of Ross.

Just last week my car wouldn't start. I took it to the mechanics and he told me it was because of Ross.

So I can understand why supporters are just so bitter about him leaving. Especially given that he took us to 2 GF's without a win... just so he could boost his market value to Freo.

The guy is a total douche. How dare look after his own family ahead of appeasing our members... the same members who reckon he had too many faults. You see, no coach quits on St Kilda. We are a proud club of coach sackers. It's in our DNA. That's why we have won so many flags.

To paraphrase the LNP... we will decide who coaches us and when we will sack them.

If Ross went "No im not staying and will leave for freo" then i think i could of accepted that. But it was the way he went about it that sees him dead to me. Come out and say its for the money or a new challenge but to lie about where he was at with the club is unforgivable.
Also one thing we can blame on him is why lynch and walsh left and some kids that got delisted who never got a chance to show what they had to offer.

Ross Lyon wanted a 4 year deal to stay with us. He knew where we were at and what would be required in the future. He wanted security and time to rebuild. The club - rightly or wrongly - would not commit to his terms... we were not travelling too well at the start of 2011, so fair enough. BUT he had just taken us to successive GF's, but despite this, the club still dithered.

If they wanted him to stay they should have signed him asap. Given the club's non- committal / acceptance of a 4 year deal at the time, he looked elsewhere.

Apart from Lynch, which delisted kids are killing it at AFL level???? People should stop finding reasons to justify their own anger IMO.

He is a brilliant coach and we let him go. He owed us nothing. Apart from a flag, he pretty much fulfilled his brief at the club.

There is some pretty harsh , emotive language used on here. But I bet if he was your son / sibling etc, you would have said - good on you, for what he did.

I don't often agree with GT, but he was 100% spot on when he observed that if the club wanted him to stay, they could have done more to keep him.

he looked elsewhere, all the while indicating to the club that he was going to re-sign.

Respect R Lyon the coach. Do not respect the way he went about it.

No other coach, to my knowledge has orchestrated their own deal -- all the while indicating to his management team & the existing club he was good to sign.

Happens every day in business.

Yep.

So does resentment, ill feeling, grudges and "did you hear what he/she did" water cooler convo.

Which is what this thread is.

No biggy.

Some very good points and I think you are right. But I did had the way he left us. Still, as I said, made my peace with this and I will be happy for my long suffering Freo mates if they win. Not so much for RL and ZD, just cannot help it!

I agree, sir! He should have gone about it the way clubs remove coaches. I like their refreshing honesty and the way they let the coaches know a long time in advance.

Several former and current players have commented on Freo's success with Ross Lyon. There is a lot of respect and love for Lyon.

They are pros and understand far better than us, the emotional supporters, why he left (same reason why it appears to me that the players don't have too much of an issue with Goddard leaving).

I for one hope that Freo win that premiership with Lyon. Tigers are out, so Freo will be the popular underdog team and Lyon is the best coach in the AFL today by a huge margin and simply deserves that flag.

Some Freo fans are dickheads ? Maybe. One of my favourite Saints players was Raphael Clarke - the behaviour of many so called Saints supporters towards him is more than enough evidence that there are a lot of dickheads amongst St Kilda supporters, too...

Told another porky tonight I reckon.

Didn't analyse freos list, just jumped in.

Sure you did.

Good coach
Also a smart opportunist
People forget he was an assistant for 15 years at 3 clubs before he got the Saints job .
He knows how it works and when to take on a list when it is competitive.
Sadly most Saints fans (in hindsight) see him as a Messiah and instead of concentrating on the important things - like building a list from the ground up and having a whole club approach to success - they will start looking for a new messiah. It is this mindset that makes the Saints shit for 120 years.
