Been brought up in a number of threads, just wanted to see who the unbiased supporters would prefer going forward.

different types, one's FF and one's CHF, one kicks goals and one works his ass off up the field, one's a no1 KPF and one's a no2 KPF.

id pick cloke on this years form, its worrying how he can lose form for long stretches though, both good players, nothing more at this stage though.

Cloke for me, and by quite a bit. Roughead is a proven goal kicker, but i think cloke can have a much greater output on the result of the game, through his work rate, great contested marking ability and ability to create opportunities for others.

Really rate Cloke as a player, as well as his ability to play a specific role to the 'T'

Roughead's accuracy is barely any better than Cloke's, and he's prone to the same howlers that Cloke is.

Cloke led the league in contested marks this year.

Jarryd Roughead almost always gets the second best key defender because the best one goes to Franklin.

Those two things considered, I'd take Cloke.

Despite Roughead also being susceptible to a case of the yips, I believe he is the superior goal kicker.

Cloke's strength and mobility as a lead-up CHF however is such that you'd pick him most days of the week if your team already had a reliable man at FF capable of 55+ a year.

For Geelong, I suppose that means Roughead. Unlike many cats fans I don't want to have Podsiadly's children, and Hawkins clearly has a huge question mark hanging over him.

Cloke for me, because he can have a bigger impact on a game because of his work rate and strong contested marking. Despite his horrible inaccuracy (and Roughead's was just as bad this year anyway), he is very important to Collingwood's forward structure. Roughead was previously the better player but he had a very ordinary year by his standards, so on current form, Cloke.

clokes possibly our most important player, laugh if you like but if he plays well we win, simple, cant say that for roughead IMO.

Roughead kicks more goals but our game plan makes it hard for any fwd to kick bags, high rotations through the fwd line and our game plan is based on defense, if we kick 14 goals we normally win, cloke also gets the no1 defender on most occassions, most defenders when playing the hawks all run to cover buddy leaving roughy one out or even by himself at times, rougheads easily the best second string KPF going around though IMO.

^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

i think ive had this discussion with you before but for the books rough in no way gets the no.2 defender each week.

most the time Rough gets the no.1 defender ie. Scarlett where buddy gets i dont know a Mackie because of his aerobic capacity.

Roughy by a mile!
Unfortunately for cloke i have been told by some people that he tends to have too many embarrassing things that happen to him when kicking for goal.

How is Cloke your most important player?

If he plays well you win, but you can say that for pretty much every key forward in the comp. If Ossie plays well we usually win, does that make him one of our most important players?

I'd say he's our most important player structurally. Watch a Collingwood game and take note of how often the ball goes through Trav before a score, or how good he is at bringing the smaller players into the game.

His work rate is absolutely exceptional as well.

Roughy has played 125 games for 237 goals, Cloke has played 124 games for 155 goals, this is the biggest factor that contributed to me choosing Roughy, and probs most other posters as well.

IMO I would rather the big forward playing in the fwd 50 kicking goals moreso than up on the wing chasing kicks but that's just my opinion.

For those saying that Roughy takes the 2nd defender they clearly need to watch more football, a large majority of the time Roughy plays on the oppositions best KP defender eg. Scarlett, Pears. Buddy usually takes the more mobile defender's (the defenders that can keep up with him) not necessarily the No.1 defender.

All in all it's a good comparison, but for me it's Roughy purely on goal kicking ability.

you'd know better than me about that, but even if thats true he'd still be one out on most occassions, leave cloke one out on scarlett in the goal square and it wouldnt end well for the cats IMO, cloke rag dolled scarlett a few times this year one on one, just to strong.

as i said mate, our fwds are expected to work harder defensivly than they are offensivly, same for every other player in our 22, our game plan is defense first, has been for years, watch the 09 final against the saints, ive never seen a more one sided contest during that second qtr, it was like the brisbane lions of 02 playing the brisbane bears of 93, the saints owned us, we couldnt touch the bloody thing, yet, the saints couldnt score, and we didnt flood, we lost that game by 5 goals, we lost pendles after 5 minutes and rocca just after HT so we played for a half with 20 men.

ive stated on similar threads, rougheads on IMO, 250 to 300k per year at most (as i said, IMO), also IMO, clokes on 500 to 550K per year, anyone think the collingwood football club is stupid in any way? anyone think any club in the comp would pick roughead over cloke if they could pay them the same wage? come on, get serious, clokes upside is mindboggling compared to rougheads, if cloke starts kicking str8 he could become a once in a generation player.

Four things.

1. If you think Roughy's only on 250k-300k, you've got rocks in your head. He just signed a 4 year deal and would be on at LEAST 400k (most probably more)

2. Rating players on wages would be one of the silliest ways of comparing their ability.

3. I'm sure that more clubs than not would choose Roughy over Cloke. What do Carlton, Melbourne, Essendon, Freo, Geelong, Kangaroos, Port Adelaide, St Kilda, Sydney, Gold Coast and West Coast need more - a player to go up on the wing and act as a link man between into their forward 50, or a power forward who is a proven goal kicker and will net 50 goals+ per year?

4. How is Clokes upside "mindboggling" compared to Roughy? What a nothing statement. If Roughy continues to improve he could easily be the next Johnno Brown - has all the attributes: Strength, Marking, Agility, just needs to improve his accuracy and confidence. If either of them are going to be a "once in a generation" player, it will be Roughy (although neither of them will)

have to agree to disagree i think, please note though, even the puppet master chose cloke, read into that what you will.

roughys a good player as i said, but i dont see any upside, had a fairly easy ride IMO compared to cloke who was thrown into the hardest position on the ground at the age of 20 and won a BaF in doing so, for a top 4 side as well, no team in their right mind would choose roughead over cloke mate, no team.

Sorry but this is just plain wrong.

Majority of unbiased people know Roughy is better, and has the potential to be better than Cloke. Poll results show this. Especially when considering of the 15 "unbiased" people that voted for Cloke so far (compared to the 40 for Roughy), 4 go for Collingwood.
