Prediction Round 10 Changes vs. Essendon

Essendon away the bogeyist of bogey games, perhaps the Dockeryist game of them all.

3 times out of 20 attempts, once in every decade we’ve existed, we’ve managed to get over them away. Worse than our record against the powerhouses Cats, Hawks & Pies.

We’ve never beaten them at the G, though we’ve only played them there 4 times. Strangely enough they have beaten us there twice by 1pt with the exact same score 89-90.

Overall despite how irrelevant they have been for 20 years they still hold a commanding 17:25 win record against us. A strange stat exists with the Bombers - we have never beaten them by less than 16pts yet they have beaten us 10 times by a 15pts or less.

All I’m saying is that before you put your house down on the betting apps just remind yourself that this is Essendon away…

To put some other numbers to this I'll be flying over and watching this.

I dunno, they go through him so much it is pretty predictable. GWS certainly worked it out as the game went on and made sure his kicking didn't hurt them as much. I imagine we can do the same but more successfully.

i dont rate roberts that highly but tbf i think we have struggled with the chip mark game teams have used against us in the past ala sydney and brissie. hopefully dons just dont have the quality to sustain that though

The only thing that scares me is how many fantasy points he will score if I don't captain him this week.... he's a stat padding seagull that I love for my fantasy team, but he is not a superstar.

People will roll out the whole "good sides would play the experienced player" and then conveniently forget that Sydney have been in exactly the same position with McCartin out the last few weeks and have been playing a young guy called Will Edwards instead of Hamling who they also have as depth - Edwards kept Larkey goalless on the weekend.

Good opportunity to give Davies some rare exposure, he won't get it with a fully fit side.

Agreed, will be disappointed if McDonald plays.

Realistically, Pearce is going to miss the maximum range (so 3-4 weeks) so this looks as good a time as ever to see what we have at the top level with Davies or even Draper.

JOM is still a week or two away, I wonder where he figures with the coaches, if they still see him as a straight-in selection which is how they’ve always seen him.

I, and I think plenty of fans, would think he’s a fringe selection, if best 23 at all at this point. I think whether he comes in hinges on how well Johnson and Erasmus are holding their spots, which they are right now.

Hoping that also, but not optimistically. And i am more than happy for him to miss an additional 1-2 weeks at this stage if it is an advantage further down the track.
