Jeez, distance makes the heart grow fonder and all. Banfield has struggled to hit a kick at Peel this year, he will.not be an upgrade on McVee though I agree McVee was poor again. He has completely lost all confidence in his kicking and even his handballing is going backwards.

Why was McVee frequently on Mason Wood when they dont exactly run a super tall backline? Who was Ryan on most of the night.

There has to be nuances to how this backline is organising themselves because Id argue our worst two performers are 2 of the 7 down there every night.
This was the first game where to me the vitriol matches the performance. Fwiw especially on the handballing, I'm pretty sure he messed up his right thumb in the first qtr. Didn't start the game with it strapped, but played with it bandaged from the 2nd qtr onwards. You can also see him post-game talking to Worner + Chappy about it and tossing a small ball from hand to hand.

McDonald infuriates me. He improved as the game wore on but he regularly stayed down when he should smash packs as a 3rd up. He has zero mongrel in him and you can see the cogs turn super slow in his mind.
NOD had 27 but he was also infuriating at times. Handballing into traffic. Turning into trouble when already on his left. Worked hard but can see why he’s not best 22.

How can anyone say NOD out? 27 disposals, can’t think of any cat 10s (although there must have been at least one). He’s earnt another game.
I don’t reckon Pearce will be be ready, so OMac gets another week. If Young’s ready then he comes in for Scerri.

But we need to be talking about Switta imo. He’s been terrible.
Does need to improve his disposal, kicks a few flour bags. Albeit a good effort last night.

McDonald is depth, he's a had a few games above that level, a few crappy ones and plenty to the level we need with him coming in.
I still would have loved to have seen Davies but with such loss of leadership I can understand a more mature head.

Just didn't kick to advantage. The rest of his work was excellent. Ran very hard on the wing and went to some CBA's. Nice to have his extra pace running up and down the wing.

Some of Rawlings match-ups leave me totally bewildered.

Like most expecting McDonald + Scerri > Pearce + Young but I'd add Mcvee > Simpson (with Walker still out) and I really don't want to see Scerri dropped, would go O'Driscoll, Johnson or simply McVee instead, whoever goes out will have a right to feel hard done by just too many AFL level players to fit into one team.

Oh what a time for a Freo fan to be alive 😆

JL said Johnson was sent to Garcia to reduce his influence and he did a very good job. He isn't going to be dropped.

Out of curiosity why don't you want Scerri to be dropped? Thought he looked out of his depth last night, great to get him exposure, but thought he was our least effective player despite the poor disposal for McVee

Thought he was good with limited disposals myself.
Played that more defensive small role, moving up and back.
Had some good linking play.
Switta on the other hand barely moved out of the forward 50

Depth at 28 I’d rather someone more solid otherwise get games into Draper.

I am pretty bullish here

JL and this group have proven over the years to get themselves up for big road games.

Melbourne at the MCG in 2022 when the Dees won about 17 in a row.

Geelong in Geelong as well couple of times.

Sydney at the SCG in 2024 when they were top of the ladder.

Collingwood last year the MCG when they were top of the ladder.

Brisbane aint at the top but they are the B2B premiers who will be itching to make a statement themselves i reckon.

And the Gabba is the final frontier of Venues with Longmuir on the Road.

Won everywhere else

Similar to what Lach72 said, and I just like what he brings to the team. He's not having a huge impact but he doesn't need to, he works hard to get involved and I trust him with ball in hand. For a first year player who's going to improve he's ready for AFL (imo) which is great for himself and the team.

I don't really expect any of the players I mentioned above to be dropped in front of him, just adding my 2 cents to the discussion, but it is a great problem to have that we have players needing to play WAFL who are good enough to be in the main team. There's been plenty of years when that hasn't been the case.

I don’t mind McVee. Decent defender, usually in the right spot. We’re in a good spot if he’s our ‘worst’ player.

But I’m all for the hate. Because this board also gave it to Amiss, Voss and Worner. And that turned out well.

Exactly, if the Worner trajectory plays out, McVee will be in all-Australian contention by round 18.

Nah that's great, I haven't been the biggest on Scerri so I was just genuinely interested in how you saw him ahead of others, but that makes sense - he's doing well considering where's he has come from which is great.

In terms of trusting him with ball in hand I was pretty nervous this game to be honest, but given others have said he's already looked well above WAFL level these AFL games are gold.

My view is quite simply others add more to the team right now, but I do love to see Scerri get his opportunity.

He is tracking as quite literally an upgrade on Switta. If he can learn to hit the scoreboard more often he will be a gun.
I get what your saying but Switta has elite footy smarts. If this kid gets to that level he will be rapt.

In Young & Pearce
Out Driz & mcdonald

Judd is fine 1 on 1 and as a defence first player shouldn’t be dropped but he isn’t anywhere near the player advertised. At what point was Chapman bumped off that role and why?

loved his game - he missed the goals but he played really well
