With our last game against Port, I doubt we will have the option to rest players for this game. If Port are still travelling top four then we would need to take it right up to them.

I realise that hence the "if/when a top two berth is secure" bit. It is not out of the question we could be sitting more than a game clear, given port, syd, hawks all play each other. Hawthorn has injury concerns, Port are dropping off slightly. There are no guarantees, but it's definitely a possibility. Otherwise Grey will have to wait til at least next season for his debut.

Did the AFL put a rule in place to prevent the resting of half a team ala Rd.23 vs St. Kilda? I remember hearing some kafuffle about it...

GWS nearly beat the Hawks at the MCG. Sound familiar? screw resting players. no letdown. if we lose players to injury I wont be shedding tears. This game is ruthless. If players are fit and we need to win, they play. If we were a dominant team and had won a flag last year I might consider it for a second

Sylvia did OK. Not great, but he was positioned as a deep forward, in a role that is not going to bring huge possession counts. He basically played as a shorter version of Mayne, and they both had very similar outputs.

With these easy 3 games coming up, it makes no sense to drop him now. The next few weeks gives us a chance to assess him more thoroughly. Maybe give him a burst in the midfield (his best position), see how that goes. It's easy to underestimate how hard it is to play in a new side/system. It's going to take him (and Morabito) some time.

Sylvia looks good with the ball in hand, that extra touch of class was very evident in the wet game against Brisbane. He was hitting smart targets.

That said, it would be nice if he found more of the ball.

I am reasonably happy with Sylvia having a 12 possession game as a fairly deep forward (not unlike Ballas) but for his own sake he needs to get on the scoreboard.

I agree but it's the Chris Mayne situation. They are both hunting the man, Mayne is taking more marks, I feel that is because Sylvia isn't at the fitness yet to get into the gaps to take uncontested marks.

in other words nothing DeBoer wouldn't have done. Was hoping for a little more scoreboard action from Col.
I guess that's the gap between De Boer and Sylvia. Sylvia is currently playing close to De Boer's ceiling. Sylvia has more class and the capacity to play above that. With De Boer you get De Boer.

As long as he is doing the right team things I'm happy with how he's going.

In Ross's press conference he mentioned that Stephen Hill had a potential 3-week injury. He also said that Mora will most probably stay in the side.

Sounds to me like Mora in for Hilly and he won't be the sub.

Sandi to be rested if Mumford is rubbed out. I would also consider giving him the Stk game off as well which will mean 3 weeks off out of 4 heading into the Geelong game taking in to account the split round.

Having said that, looking at the older blokes, not many look like they need a rest. Guys like Duffield, Mundy & Crowley are all ticking over nicely but I think if we give some of them a week off over the next fortnight then possibly the Brisbane game later in the year it should mean we are set up nicely.

Ballaz looks a bit sore but that is because he plays like a mad dog.

As a GWS member I watch their games every week. I know the boys don't get complacent but they wouldn't want to accidently do it this week.

The young boys over here at GWS are very inconsistent. However they lost to an almost full strength hawthorn at the MCG by 7 points only a few weeks ago after missing a few easy shots late that could have won it for them.

This was only a week after being smashed by WC. When Patton, Cameron and Hoskin Elliot are firing they are hard to stop and believe it or not but Palmer is in great form and getting a few each week as a small crumbing forward.

I also would not be surprised to see them use all 3 Cameron, Patton and Boyd this week if MJ doesn't get up.

In defence Heath Shaw should return this week and mohr and Davis will be able to handle any talls we put down there well enough. Davis smashed Buddy round 1. Josh hunt will also come back in this week I imagine.

The midfield is where they seem to be most inconsistent. Shiel, smith, trelor, scully, Whitfield, Kelly are all class in there. But when they have a bad day is when they seem to lose by large scores.

Good opportunity for a percentage booster if we plan for a tough game, but just as much chance of a surprise close call depending on which GWS turn up.

We will win this game no worries but the margin is no easy guess

"Already missing a host of premiership stars, including Sam Mitchell, Cyril Rioli, Josh Gibson and Brian Lake, the Hawks faced the Giants without midfielder Jordan Lewis, who was a late withdrawal."

The Hawks weren't near full strength.

Oh. Well I did watch it in Bali with a few too many bintangs.

Well if we rested players we would be below strength too I guess

:) I remember watching that thinking that several of their players weren't putting in a full effort too, particularly Shaun Burg.

That's my point Taylor. Take every team seriously or you could get embarrassed. Luckily that is RTB philosophy anyway. But people saying to rest players I think is dangerous
