Can you imagine the tears if we don't end up having a single debutante this week?
With Weller, Blakely and Langdon all in, 1 is certain to debut. I don't see Freo playing 3 rucks, Fyfe is injured and Clancee Pearce is out. Grey should be in but that is my opinion.

Really a minor thing.

End of day experience of playing is the greatest benefit. From there it also flows into to prep of body during week for afl standard footy.

Of course, but it helps and if you look at our last half a dozen debutants path to making their debut, its obviously something our club values.

Weller was average against the black ducks.Had his pants pulled down by a young Clontarf kid. Blakely had three really good quarters.Quiet in the third though.
Langdon also didn't follow up his good game the previous week.

Wouldn't surprise me if he was told prior to the game that he'll be making his debut next week and just get through the game without "breaking his neck". Apart from that, we wouldn't be picking him based on one game, he's been working towards it for months. He's ready.

I use one set of stats and everybody falls to pieces. You forgot to use his #1 stat - turnovers.

He was good early in the year but has reverted to his old ways. Trust your eyes, Danyle is killing us and we can't afford him doing that at the pointy end.

Correct. Apart from two flukey goals against Brisbane, he hasn't been effective since round 8!

However, unfortunately until such time as we have Weller and/or Langdon up and about he'll continue to get games due to a lack of replacements.

Sick of Tabs being dropped, how does MDB keep getting a game? Clancee omitted too, not injured... too many dropped sitters last week

Clancee popping his shoulder out against Richmond may be a factor.
I'm thinking we may try A.Pearce and McPharlin as a forward for short stretches on Sunday.

Clarke coming in for Taberner as a permanent forward?

More likely we'll just play without one imo. We've named a 3rd ruckman most weeks this year but they've never played.

Ross Lyon clearly doesn't rate tall blokes much since we basically play half a game each week with Pavlich as our only tall forward. It actually makes sense if you are telling everyone to push up into the opponent's forward 50 anyway...there's not going to be anyone there to lead so it doesn't really matter if they are tall or not.

We kick a great deal of goals running back towards goal after we create turnovers. We really only have a forward line during mid-ground stoppages. The rest of the time everyone is in the rolling zone.

as others have said still so many options for the way we will structure up for this game - the only certainty is that it will be:

1) Our forward structure will be different to anything yet this year (i.e. 2 rucks, Pearce, Dawson or even McPharlin)
2) We will get to see a youngster at the next level for the first time but still don't know who

Exciting times...

D. Pearce has been having his year for us and I like him as a player but has gone back to being a nervous nancy in front of the big sticks - obviously a confidence player. Would like to see him go further upfield on the ball this week or into defence. Get him kicking it up the ground to Hill and Crozier not being the one running onto it around the 50 m line and getting nervous.

Or we could just play another defensive midfielder there instead, like we do in the 2nd half every week anyway.

I wouldn't mind seeing:
Weller IN for Clancee
Dawson IN for Tabs
Blakely IN for Fyfey(inj :-( )

However i'm expecting Muz to come in for Clancee, Dawson to be included and hoping that Blakely/Welller to make in into the side.

I'm surprised they dropped Tabs after consistently sticking with him all year..Unless he has injury concerns (maybe that's why he isn't play as well as he did at the start of the year?)

The GWS midfield of Ward, Scully, Griffen, Treloar, Whitfield and Coniglio will be no push over. Great on paper. Getting Davis back too is huge for them! I'm hoping we can bring the pressure!

One of the biggest gripes I have with Danyle is the fact he can't take the ball with one grab (as if it is a bar of soap) and rarely finishes a goal (unless it is some bullshit angle as he always seems to pull it off)

40m+ kicks to grass or a spoil count as effective.
But that applies to everyone in the team/league and yet Danyle still has a higher DE than half the team. It's not like Champion Data sit there seeing Danyle kick and think, well we'll give him an effective DE but if that was Fyfe no way.

This is just confirmation bias. There are plenty of times that he will cleanly pick the ball up and deliver it accurately. There are times that he stuffs one (or both) of these up. He's not perfect at his job and it's unlikely that he can improve. But, he clearly has a lot of positive attributes that have kept him in the team for every game possible.

Danyle, like Hill are high risk/high reward players. They take the game on and attempt to do more than a lot of others in the team. That's there job. The result is there are turnovers and they stand out because often it will result in opposition scores.
If someone surpasses him this year (or more likely next) then it means we will be going pretty well, because he is far from the bottom 4 players picked every week.

I think Danyle is instructed to put it to boot for as long as he can whenever in doubt, which plays into that stat :)

He is out of form at the moment and its horrible.

I suppose its better he plays crap now instead of finals.

I like that part of his game by the way. I'd much rather a ball up or contest closer to our goal :)

I just won't get too into the stats on disposal efficiency, I'm much more partial to retained possession disposals but I can't find that anywhere.

From Twitter... RTB presser

Mundy not at training due to migraine
Fyfe injury 1-2 weeks - groin
One of the new kids will debut

The thing is, whilst it is exciting to see a debutant the anti-climax is that you will only see them play 15-20 minutes at the most. Sub rule is the shittest.

Pearce has been playing like that since he debuted. He isn't instructed, it's his natural game.

Agree, I wasn't calling for him to be dropped by the way (at least he gets some possessions). Dunno what confirmation bias means, it is just something I have observed from watching him.
