Just a hunch but I think Weddle may have been ruled out of first final and are planning for him to play week 3 and 4 of finals (prelim and grand final) and possibly week 2 if we end up going down that route.
Sam was on SEN this morning and said that Weddle was invited to come up with the team this weekend but he refused as he wanted to get the scan that will clear him to play done first thing Monday morning.

Morrison i'm not sure if he's straight in for week 1 of finals or not. I'd say he'd have to prove fitness at Box Hill and also perform. Which is really harsh as he has really cemented his spot but it's hard to drop a performing CJ for a Morrison who missed many weeks. CJ offers us more aerial contests, can push to defence and more speed. Morrison is always where we need him and a bit cleaner with the ball and makes better decisions.
Absolutely no doubt Sam is trotting off worst-case scenario, he's been loaded over the past 10 days, and when his MRI comes back negative, which it will, he's ready to go. Hasn't lost much fitness, will play limited minutes at BHH next weekend, and will be selected in our first winal, be it elimination or qualifying.
Some "hunch" that he's been already ruled out of the first final, in over two weeks time, is just utter nonsense.
Here's a hunch for you.... if Day hadn't had the foot drama, and was playing swimmingly right now, my hunch is Weddle would be playing this Sunday night.
Its all in for the Hawks from this moment onward, every game is a final, and Weddle is in our best five players, and maybe top three most important players. Take it to the bank, he will be playing that first final.

Personally I'd feel more comfortable taking Harry into a final rather than CJ as players with clean handa and good decision makers tend to do well in finals.

But three weeks out could mean he needs a run at Box Hill to get his touch back so who knows.

I think any win does it right?

We will finish above Collingwood and Brisbane if we win. And only putting us 3rd, and only gold coast can realistically catch us with 2 wins to put us 4th.

No we need to win by about 16 points if Brisbane kick 100 to maintain our percentage advantage. That goes down to about +9 if they kick 60.

We will lose percentage if it’s a one goal game and won’t overtake Collingwood.

If Gold Coast loses to Port, we are guaranteed to make top 4 if we win though.

equation is simple, beat Brisbane by 16+ points and Hawks secure a top four spot.
Not quite that simple. Depends on how much we score.

If we score our lowest winning score so far (47), we only need to win by 5.
If we score 60, we will need to win by 7.
If we score 70, we will need to win by 9.
If we score 80, we will need to win by 11.
If we score 90, we will need to win by 12.
If we score 100, we will need to win by 14.
If we score 110, we will need to win by 16.
If we score 120, we will need to win by 18.
If we score 130, we will need to win by 20.
If we score 140, we will need to win by 22.
If we score highest winning score so far (150), we will need to win by 23.

Of course, if Port can hold on and beat the Suns, we'll only need to win by 1.

So good to see his professionalism in managing his recovery.

Thanks Port, things going out way now. If we can put our game together and fix a few things the flag is right there for the taking.

Need a little more polish to finish our chances and not do silly turnovers that cost us easy goals. If we get that right we can beat anyone.

4, teams we haven't beaten this year. GC, Freo, Geelong and Brisbane. We were very close to the first 3, and have a chance on Sunday against the lions.

Just a quick note to say the figures in post #238 above will now determine whether we finish 3rd or 4th - if we win against the Lions.

If we lose to the Lions, we'll finish outside the Top 4.

Have a good night, everyone!
Thanks for doing the maths. 3rd and playing the cats means we can stay at MCG all finals.

Assuming that GWS beats StK.

Our game
A win and we get 3rd or 4th dependent on margins - as mentioned above in other posts.

A draw and we get 6th if dogs win and host a final or 7th if freo win and go to Perth (not ideal)

A loss and we either
  • get 8th and possibly go to Sydney to play GWS (ouch), or;
  • could get 7th with small margins in our loss and Suns win to keep them in 8th on lower percentage.

Port winning tonight means Coll will finish top 4.

Simple - win by enough and get geelong off a soft run

If we can beat Brisbane away then I'll back us to beat Adelaide away this time around.

Though if we do beat Brisbane we're probably more likely to end up 3rd and playing Geelong at the MCG.

Happy with either course.

damn it all I really thought the Dees might win and or the pies would get the collywobbles again..... It would make top four so much easier
