Scott Stevens was OK but can Jars please teach hi how to kick.

He really is a dreadful kick. He definetly needs to work on but he is pretty handy nonetheless.Originally posted by macca23
They have been working on it.
Do you remember when I told you after watching him in the pre-season that if you were relying on him kicking for goal to save your life you'd be dead???
Nothing's changed!!![]()

In fact we would have had a home final if not for a loss to the 1-20 Fremantle side at Subiaco in round 22.![]()
Agee with most of your comments & side Stiffy. I would probably bring Burns in instead of Bode as a crumber at the feet of Carey. Would also start McLeod on the bench & tell him he is 1 poor game away from being dropped.Originally posted by Stiffy_18

BTW, anoyone know what has happened to Torney, as I don't believe he played for South yesterday?
Pavlich is the one most difficult to match up on. We tried Stenglein and Hart last year and it didn't work. Maybe try Smart on Pavlich. Burton doesn't have the smarts or the concentration to go with Pavlich for the entire game.Originally posted by Kane McGoodwin
Pavlich - who plays on him? I was 1st thinking Stinger, but then thought about trying Birdman, who has been largely ineffective so far this year. He has the ability to run with Pav & go with him in the air & hopefully may run him into much needed form.
I expect Carr will pick up Roo. We could run Stinger with Haselby. Leaving Goody v Bell, Reilly v Schammer.
In defence, Kenny should matchup well on Polak (or Simmonds if he is still injured) & Hentschel on JLo. They key though will be how we pick up their goal-kicking smalls - ie. Farmer, Medhurst & Waterhouse. Need someone good overhead for Medhurst, so probably Hart. Probably Gags for his pace on Farmer & Massie on Waterhouse.

Just trying to think of something out of left-field to run Burton into form. Pav would have way too much aerobic capacity for Smart, as he no longer has the running ability he did a few years back.Originally posted by Stiffy_18

Funny as I see Hentschel being better suited to JLo, as Jlo isn't really a body player. Each to their own.Originally posted by Stiffy_18
Kenny should match up on JLo because they are better match ups as far as height is concerned. Hentschel should play on Simmonds or Polak. Hart to play on Medhurst and one of the smalls to pick up Farmer. Gallagher is good when he can run and not worry about his man. I think if we play him on Farmer, Jeff will make us pay. Maybe Schuback or Edwards on Farmer.
Massie has the height to go with Clive but has he got the pace. I just watched the game between Swans and Dockers and Clive is very quick off the mark. Torney would be perfect match up on him but it would appear that he re-injured himself.
Smart might not be able to run with Pav for the whole game. Pav did play up forward a fair bit today against the Swans. We need to come up with someone. Burton isn't accountable on the best of days. It will be interesting to see who we give the job. For mine, it comes back to Stenglein again.Originally posted by Kane McGoodwin

Another option for Farmer could be to play McLeod on him. Need to do something different with Macca to run him back into form. Perhaps like in '97 we run him off a HBF & he may give us some extra drive from defence.
Smart jsut hasn't got the aerobic capacity, so forget about him as a matchup. Agree Stenglein is the obvious candidate. However, remember Burton's breakthrough game was a run-with player on Robert Harvey. He might not have a great footy brain, but he can follow a simple instruction like follow Pav everywhere & deny him the ball on the ground & in the air!Originally posted by Stiffy_18

Stiffy, your forgetting about Polak (assuming he is fit), who is likely to play CHF. Kenny is a good matchup for him.Originally posted by Stiffy_18
Maybe, I just went for the height factor. JLo is 198 cm, while Kenny is our tallest KPP at 195 cm. I think Kenny played on JLo in the past and did a fantastic job. Simmonds is not really a good forward. Again I am not sure on these yet. It will depend on who gets picked.
Again not sure what we do with Macca, but we do need to do something different to try & spark him.Originally posted by Stiffy_18
I don't know what McLeod's problem is but he definetly got one. In the words of Kerls it doesn't matter if you play onball or in the forward pocket, if you are good enough and you want it bad enough you will get the ball.
We really need to do something with McLeod. Maybe starting him on the bench might get him fired up. I am really lost for answers when it comes to McLeod's lack of form.
We are not going to win too many taps this week, which suggests 2 things. Firstly, our midfielders better play tight on their opponents or learnt how to read Sandilands taps. Secondly, do we drop Clarke (I'm serious), as we need to get an advantage around the ground - which Huddo is more likely going to give. If Clarke isn't going to win the taps, then he is next to useless.Originally posted by Stiffy_18 PS. In all these who is the dangermen of Dockers talk we are all overlooking big Sandilands. I reckon he will cause us headaches especially if Biglands continues his stinky form. [/B]
On form its Biglands who deserves to be dropped. According to Leaping Linder, Huddo was given BOG by one of the comentators in todays game.Originally posted by Kane McGoodwin

I'm not so much thinking of form, but horses for courses Stiffy. If we need someone as you say to jump into Sandilands, then Clarke is not the guy. We are better off playing 2 more physical ruckmen.Originally posted by Stiffy_18

I think the key with Sandilands is to run into him at centre bounces. Just run into him with pointy knees (fairly of course). Exert physical presence, maybe that will get him to go into his shell a bit. At stoppages around the ground we need someone to go up as the 3rd man and thump the ball forward. Someone with good leap so Burton would be a good answer to this.
Our midfield structure better be perfect or we are dead in the water.
