Out: Gamble
In: ?

A few factors at play here.

1. Byrnes was dropped two weeks in a row but recalled for one of them with Gamble pulling out as a late change. As soon as Gamble was right, he replaced Byrnes straight away. Byrnes has replaced Gamble before so will he again? He was BOG in the VFL according to reports so must be a chance.

2. The policy of giving youngsters a run. Bomber has been very open about this and has so far been keen to give West, Taylor and Gamble as much game time as possible. Prismall has been the other name mentioned in the same breath and Bomber actually mentioned his name in relation to round 5 a couple of weeks back. Is it Prismall's turn this time?

3. The old "like-for-like". Gamble plays as a leading forward target but is also good once the ball hits the ground. There doesn't seem to be an obvious replacement for his type, but Varcoe by all reports had a good VFL game and I'm pretty sure Bomber will be looking for an opportunity to give him a run. Perhaps needs to string a few good VFL games together because he has been poor recently.

4. Mackie. Has probably entered the realms of the automatic selection. If he is right, he will play and he will play AFL. But there's no harm in giving him an extra week to recover from his injury. Quads can be very troublesome (just ask Nathan Djerrkura). Letting him rest another week potentially gives a youngster a chance.

Agreed.

I'd rather see a younger fella get a chance and let Mack fully recover. Worry about playing him when we start losing. It's all good baby.

With Mooney and Gamble out I think you will find they will bring Mackie back if he is ready. You dont flirt with form at round 5 no matter how good you think you are.

Ottens could be due back, so west possibly out.

Byrnes should come in to replace Gamble. Quiet simply he plays well in our side, is hard to match up on, has good defensive skills and we dont often lose with him in the team. We are all aware of his weaknesses but I think his strengths make up for them

Varcoe isnt ready.

Prismall wont come in until we need a midfielder.

So for mine
Out: West, Mooney, Gamble
In: Ottens, Mackie, Byrnes

I was thinking the other day how much better our side would be if you could have a 6 man interchange. No more fighting on big footy and depth unlike any team in the competition!

I wouldn't be surprised if Mackie played a half in the VFL before coming back into the senior side next week so we can give a Pris a taste, he deserves it.

My guess would be Byrnes, simply because Gamble has been the one to replace him. One out of left field might be Prismall - I remember him playing a bit of a half-forward role versus Melbourne last year where he kicked three or four, but he's probably not really suited to the position.

Mackie also another possibility, but he's not really going to replace Gamble so it'd be more likely that he'd replace someone like Harry Taylor. Interesting week for selections.

Best team I think would be:

FB: Hunt Scarlett Mackie
HB: Harley Taylor Enright
C: Wojcinski Ablett Ling
HF: Chapman Mooney Milburn
FF: Stokes Hawkins S.Johnson
R: Blake Bartel Corey
Bench: West Rooke Kelly Selwood

If Mackie is 100% I feel he'll slot staight back into the side which will allow either Milburn or maybe Taylor to move forward to cover off Gamble's absence. I'd prefer Taylor move forward to see what he can do at the other end of the ground - I'm sold on his ability down back but he looks like he could play at either end of the ground for mine.

If Mackie isn't 100% (and even if he is 95% I don't think he should be risked) then I think Byrnes will return to the side. Despite what everyone (well, almost everyone) seems to think (me included) I just don't think Byrnes has done a hell of a lot wrong this year. He replaced Gamble for the Melbourne match so seems the logical choice to return after a good performance in the VFL last weekend against Tassie (no I didn't see it, just going on other write-ups).

Maybe Byrnes and Prismall need to step into the 'Thunderdome' - two men enter, one man leaves.

The man that leaves gets the spot in the side.

they have been talking Ottens up as coming back this game as well

I have never thought Milburn playing forward has worked that well in the past.

So possible INs could be: Otto, Mackie, Byrnes

Outs: Gamble, Possible Outs: West, Taylor

From the Addy:

The news also looks better for Cats ruckman Brad Ottens, who was yesterday listed as being one week away from returning from a foot injury.

If Mackie is fit,he should replace Gamble. We then swing Taylor to CHF where he has played in the Wafl. Mackie playes on 3rd tall if needed.
Taylor is reputed to be versatile, this is an opportunity to find out.

what was the go with chapman last week guys. Was he injured any doubt for this wek?

Hmmm if Ottens is right for this week, what about he play in the forward line? I know he is a better ruck, but it would give him a chance to work himself into AFL again, maybe ruck around the ball-ups in the forward line. Just do a bit here and there, without doing too much.

Well it would be foolish to have him play his first match of the season at Subi, so hopefully round 7.

I know Max Rooke is very popular with Bomber, and myself, but he has done nothing to warrant selection if you ask me!

In: Prismall, Byrnes

Out: Rooke, Vegas

The Sydney gameplan will be for restrictive, physical attention with an emphasis on tackling. Rooke can play himself into a bit of form if he's hungry enough for this style.
