had a shocker this week - ablett, brown and fev let me down huge, and bloody harley injured himself early.

now. what do you think i should address first? i am a first year player, and yes my team is pretty shat, so i need some help, thought TRADES are an obvious problem. options i am considering:

1) get rid of brown and trade him for pavlich - $16,500 left in the kitty

2) polak out for goddard - $15,000 left in the kitty

3) ryder out for campbell brown - $31,300 left

any ideas?

For starters, substitute Bird or Armitage with Tuck.

And i think Tom harley is out for 2 weeks.

Out of your options, option 2 is the best one by a country mile.

I wouldn't trade J Brown, he isn't going to score the way he is for 22 rounds, surely.

Yeah, I know its, actualy back to back to back. But, Pav will be better in the long term and I have earned heaps of money on Richo.

This is hands down the worst decision I have ever heard. 3 back to back hundreds, playing up the ground from now on getting easy kicks and has licence to drift into the forward line to kick goals. I traded him in this week. Don't do it. If he's the worst forward you have then you must have one hell of a team. That decision sucks so much it makes me angry.

If you only have 11 trades, I would strongly advise against trading Chad. Most of the backs are fairly unreliable so at best you'd probably get a guy who averages 85 or so for a couple of weeks and then Chad will be back racking up the points. And if you downgraded right down to a rookie, you'd probably only get 40-50 points a game out of them. It's just not worth it.

Just downgraded J.Hill to Valenti and upgraded Ling to K.Kornes. Was so tempted to get Ablett or Black though but thought having some nice cash left over was better.

Pretty happy with those trades. Now have 4 guns in the middle with Judd, Cross, Corey and K.Kornes. Stevens and Houli as supporting cast. Looking to upgrade Houli to Dal Santo next week or Porps to Riewoldt/Chapman.

Any ideas on who I should upgrade first out of Houli to Dal Santo or Porps to Riewoldt next week?

I'm leaning towards Porps to Riewoldt, not sure.

What would you do with my team as far as upgrading my side?
What would you do about Cornes given that I have two non playing bench players?

Adelaide playing Melbourne next week, whereas essendon are playing sydney, easy choice :D

Well, Richmond have been winning games that can't go on for ever. But, I will try to get Pav some other way. And, plus I have only made the 2 trades, I'm depresrate to start improving my team. Now, that I have decided not to trade him he won't score another 100 all year. Just my luck.

I'm tipping he will. Even without Richmond winning if they continue to play him around the ground he'll get easy kicks. He's a great contested mark as well which helps. Hawthorn virtually conceeded kick ins to him on the weekend, which is ideal!. Maybe I'm just to trying to justify my own selection of him but can't trade him out right now is my opinion.

Pretend you were going to buy Pavlich and O'Keefe, one this week and one next. Who would you buy first?

O'Keefe vs Essendon, $548k, 114avg (25% sd), 146BE, predicted -$19k
Pavlich vs Melbourne, $536k, 101avg (38% sd), 152BE, predicted -$30k

Both have similar break-evens; both have basically played 1 bad game which will still be affecting their score. I would look at it in this way:

Who is likely to score more this week? (check opposition). Pav is playing Melbourne - O'Keefe is playing Footscray. Clearly Melbourne are inferior opposition and to WBD so you would suggest Pav has a better chance of scoring more this week. Therefore Pav is looking good to me.

That's not standard deviation that you are quoting there is it? Did you make the calc yourself or get it from somewhere else?

[edit] re-read your post. Syd have WBD this week i believe (unless i am losing the plot).

You're right, for some reason I had it in my head that Sydney had Essendon, who are almost as leaky down back. WBD are another matter altogether. Pav it is!

Got an Excel spreadsheet going for my team and potential targets. Worked out the SD myself, then flummoxed it to a percentage so it was a bit more useful.

Hey all,

Just wondering if anyone thinks PORPLYZIA has reached his peak price?
could trade him to PAVLICH

In a two way swap
Hill - Valenti
Porplyzia - Pav

Just downgraded J.Hill to Valenti and upgraded Ling to K.Kornes. Was so tempted to get Ablett or Black though but thought having some nice cash left over was better.

Pretty happy with those trades.

Two things on the Valenti bit.

1) I know he is odds on, but Valenti has not yet been promoted from the rookie list. Might be worth being conservative?
2) He might not have been entirely truthful (surprise!) but Bailey has been quoted as saying that there are other guys (full listed players) who will get a game before Valenti even if he is promoted.

see here: http://www.melbournefc.com.au/News/NewsArticle/tabid/7415/Default.aspx?newsId=58366

I realise that he is tearing it up in the VFL and looks like he has real potential, i'm just saying that it might be worth a) waiting until he is actually promoted, and b) has played at least one game before jumping on the bandwagon! :)

Still, good luck if you get/got him. I'll cross my fingers for you! I'll be waiting until he's played 2 good senior games before I look at adding him I think... ;)

I took the plunge and downgrade Hill to Valenti this week so I could upgrade Ling to K.Kornes and next week Houli to Dal Santo. Leaves me with not having to every worry about getting Houli or Palmer wrong when one gets 50 on the ground and the other gets 118 on the emergency bench! :D

Have a question for the experts out there.

Since I already have a midfield of Judd, Corey, Cross, K.Kornes, (Dal Santo next week for Houli) is it worth it the week after next week to downgrade Stevens to a rookie and start Palmer as my 6th midfielder so I can use the money from stevens to upgrade a forward or defender?

I wouldn't mind getting H.Shaw, Mcleod, Kenelly or Johncock in my defence and either Chapman or Riewoldt in my forward line.

Does it sound like a sensible thing to do? I'm just trying to think of ways to get more cash! :D

JM in 2 weeks Palmer will be almost at his projected high. He's a rookie, why not wait till then and downgrade him for another rookie? The $ difference will only be ~$60k and Stevens is an established player. Palmer could well be dropped a couple of times even just as a precaution against burnout.

Yeah don't really want to get rid of Stevens well not yet anyways. I want to upgrade him later to a premium midfielder in the class of Black, Hodge or Ablett though but that will be later on down the track.

I see my weaknesses at the moment being my 6th midfielder (Houli/Palmer) which I hope to fix by upgrading Houli to Dal Santo next week.

Who should I really look at upgrading in the next few weeks?

I'm thinking Porps to Chapman/Riewoldt is a no brainer.

I'm worried about my defence the most. Alot of mid range players but guys like Jones, Newman and up until last week Gram have really been struggling. I wish I had H.Shaw, Kenelly, Johncock, Bock, Mcleod there instead! :D

Jones, Newman, Gram and Taylor are my weak links in my backline I reckon. I'd want to get rid of Jones first then Newman then Gram or even upgrading taylor later on.

My defence is -

Cornes, Mattner, Jones, Newman, Gram, Bradshaw, Taylor

Bench - Lower, Womaeamerri

Rucks - Cox, Griffen/Kruezer

Forwards - Pavlich, Brown, Franklin, Medhurst, Burton, Porps, Gamble

Bench - Tippet, Velanti
